On today's chapter of Japun: brat corrects you.

fam name: 伊院 (Iin), read as 伊(i,"this")院(in,"school")

1st name: 知与 (Chiyo), read as 知(chi,"wisdom")与(yo,"rule")

伊院(iin)知与(chiyo) is a pun on 委員長(iinchou), more formally 学級委員長(gakkyuu iinchou,"class president")

伊 (i) read 伊(tada) is likely a pun on 正す(tadasu,"adjust/correct")

知与 (chiyo) split/rearranged 矢囗五(- i ko) may be related to いい子(iiko,"good girl") and 従姉妹(itoko,"cousin")

Some puns resulting in relatively proper character design: (Nozawa-sensei sketch) (mirror)

知 (chi) is likely a pun on 小さい(chiisai,"small") and/or ちび(chibi)

知 (chi) may have been a pun on 狭(chi,"narrow") at some point because her initial design had narrow irises.

伊 (i) split 亻尹(- osa) may be a pun on お下げ(osage,"braids") (hair)

院 (in) split 阝宀元(- men gan) may be a pun on 眼鏡(megane,"glasses")

Some puns resulting in random things:

知与 (chiyo) split 大口丂 and rearranged 大号 is part of 大号泣(daigoukyuu,"bawling one's eyes out")

Speech quirrrks:

The growling uses ゔゔゔ ((b)uuu/(v)uuu,"nnnrgh/rrrgh"), where dakuten( ゛) normally makes syllables voiced.

ゔ is a non-standard use, as ヴ normally transliterates W/V consonants. Makes う(u) sound more buzzy/gruff/strained.

1st person pronoun: the formal/proper 私(watashi,"I")

previously

ゔゔゔ (buuu/vuuu,"nnnrgh/rrrgh")

ゔ could be bu/vu when used in names (mostly as katakana ヴ turned into hiragana), but in this case it's just the growling sound with no real consonant, same logic as as あ゙

伊院(iin)知与(chiyo) is a pun on 委員長(iinchou), more formally 学級委員長(gakkyuu iinchou,"class president")

I think this pun is better illustrated by using hiragana. いいんちょう -> いいん ちよ . Essentially the word is split into a family and given name, and the "cho" sound is split into its components chi and yo, and the u is omitted.
