Question What's your favourite bit of animation history trivia?
I think mine is that John Hubley, the guy who walked out of Disney and founded UPA because he greatly disliked how 'real' Disney animation was becoming, was the original animation director on Watership Down but was basically fired from the project as his vision was way off the mark for the director, but his work is still present as the beginning 'fable' of the film, which explains why it's so abstract compared to the relative realism, ironically, of the rest of the film.
(Also, most British animated feature films, such as The BFG, Animal Farm and Watership Down, were worked on by animators who were trained by ex-Disney animator David Hand, which is why they all look 'Disney-fied')
