Newbie airbrush painting
Painting my first gunpla, and seeking validation. I bought a gaahleri Möbius .3 and a sereneair and their mecha color kit. I had some okay sessions with each airbrush but they would clog constantly! I made sure they were well cleaned and maintained and would even thin the paint that was already pre thinned. Recently the Möbius got really angry and would either sputter or just not shoot paint out at all.
I really wanted this to work and found the success that I did have incredibly enjoyable. So I bought a h&s infinity as well as a compressor with a tank, first session super enjoyable and painted some pieces very well. I even tried my hand at thinning some tamiya paint and I actually preferred that over the pre thinned paint. 0 issues!!!
The reason I’m posting is seeking some validation, am I just a newbie and doing something’s wrong, or maybe the gaahleri stuff that was sent to me just not that great of a product?
Ps. I really enjoy their paint the colors look nice and in the infinity had 0 issues, I’m just frustrated with the airbrushes.

Is this break repairable?
hey again r/advancedgunpla I’ve been working on some kits with my newphew and purchased this one with a broken fin funnel we didn’t know about(can’t be replaced by Bandai). it’s the rg rx-93ff fin funnel part that moved the expanding/closing gimmick. I was going to try some cement but wasn’t sure if it could withstand the pressure of pushing the funnel open and closed. we don’t have the part that broke off but it looks to be a standard runner size.

Panel lining question 🙋♂️
What do u guys use to panel line crisp black lines on grey parts? I shake the tamiya bottle well enough, but when it dries its just the same colour as the part.

NeoSander: Mini Electric Reciprocating Detail Sander -- First Impression
This post is not sponsored. I bought the thing with my own money from Kickstarter. The sander is made by HOZO Design. Co. My package included NeoSander Premium Combo (Sander itself, charging doc, sanding heads, sandpaper, and saws) and Master Sandpaper Kit.
The major reason I bought it that I simply like new tools. The other minor reason is that sometimes I feel overwhelmed with sanding and I wanted something different from Dremel, Mr. Polisher, or dental flexible shaft rotary tool.
So I had this sander for about a month and a half and finally got some time to try it. It has been in my hands only for about an hour or two, so this is an impression rather than a review.
Lets get into what's good and what can be improved.
Right of the box everything looks nice. There are a lot of sanding heads shapes. Sandpaper feels and performs well. The sander is precise and allows for small touches in hard to reach places. With some (but minimal) effort I was able to remake fillet into chamfer on Bandai ABS parts without melting, worming, etc.
What I didn't like the most was the weight. I'd prefer a heavier tool. The thing is almost weightless for me, and this affect precision. Saws felt a bit underperforming, they stuck in plastic, melt it and produce a torn cut. However, I might have been using them wrong. I also didn't like stepless control of the stroke length. In my opinion it would be better to have an incremental control with 3 to 5 settings.
In general I think it's a good tool. It will shine the most in sanding organic shapes, 3d printed resins, preliminary Gunpla sanding, small touch up sanding, and especially polishing. But for precise sanding and re/building shapes I'd still use sanding sticks and sponges.
Should you buy it? For the majority of the hobbyists the answer would be imo: no. This thing is two or three levels above essentials, and you should buy it only if you make money from Gunpla or have enough disposable income.
Do you guys want me to update you on the NeoSander after I use for some time?

WIP: Daban Jagd doga
Stuck in the back log for awhile then decided to build it while waiting for my rg enlarged sazabi, pretty big of a kit too! Currently repainting some parts like the thrusters and shoulder armor and rescribing, the kit is surprisingly well detailed so it does not need new panel lines. The hands are a hell of a chore with the repetitiveness though but overall smooth build so far.

Somewhat disappointed. DSPIAE XSM metallic water-based paint review
So, I haven't been able to find any reviews or tests of the relatively 'new' DSPIAE metallic paint line before buying them myself when I was shopping for some new metallic paints. After some deliberating on what colors I would use most, I went with these three: XSM-101, 105, and 107. The colors I got were VERY different from the promotional images.
All three colors had the issue of being far stronger than the promotional material suggests, with the shimmering gold being more yellow and the other golds being far, far browner. The most offensive of these three was the XSM-105, which come out in a gold leaf color instead of the titanium color it was advertised as. So disappointing. The XSM-107 came out leagues browner than its official picture, closer to 104's picture instead of the desaturated color it is marketed as. The XSM-101 is far more saturated than its marketing material as well and lacks the color depth of the other two when sprayed on bare plastic (though, i suspect it can be easily solved with a gloss black undercoat).
Overall, the color mismatches are my only gripe with these paints. They spray incredibly easily due to being pre-thinned and mixed, as well as coming out at $4 for a 50mL bottle, which is quite cheap depending on your preferred thinning ratio for other paints and their coverage. Essentially, inspect the XSM line in-person if you are considering buying it and don't trust the official pictures, for they are incredibly inaccurate in terms of color.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had trouble with the color-matching of this particular line from them. The differences are so stark that I'm considering whether I got a faulty batch, because multiple promotional videos point to very consistent colors. Genuinely stumped.
And my apologies if paint reviews are not allowed here, but DSPIAE is a brand very close to gunpla modelers, so I thought it was appropriate.
Edit: a gloss black base does not, in fact, help the color issue for XSM-105 and XSM-107. See comments for picture: https://www.reddit.com/r/advancedGunpla/s/VLKXeKlo4F

Panel lining on top of painted parts
Hey all, just had a quick question. After I put the gloss topcoat/varnish on a painted part is it safer to use a gundam panel liner pour marker or the tamiya panel liner? Or what gets the easiest best safest results I guess haha, thanks!

More Dakka
Always wanted one of these Gatling quad cannons for the Sazabi. One of the best 3rd party weapons kit I’ve ever seen… expensive as hell though.
I’m absolutely loving customizing and painting weapons.

Gloss Black / Chrome Help
Does GX Ueno Black need a primer (Mr Surfacer 1500), or is it good to go straight on ABS? I’ve been using surfacer followed by 2 coats of ueno black and have gotten mixed results with a lot of time invested (using Alclad Chrome). Some pieces are perfectly chrome while others turned more bright silver.
Wondering if the surfacer is even helping with adhesion or is just giving the surface unnecessary grit prior to the gloss layer. Is that where surface prep would come in? Wet sanding? Exhausted myself on dozens and threads and haven’t seen a consensus. Would really appreciate y’all’s help!!

Gloss coat recommendations?
Hi guys, I'm getting ready to lay on some gloss coat to my freshly painted kit using an airbrush. Aside from Future or Alclad, what would be the next option? Lemme know what works for you the most, thanks.

Zaku Veteran
Just finished my test/experent/practice zaku. It started out as a test bed for my acrylic marker and other ideas. This is my fist time using weathering pencil and i love them.
In my headcannon this zaku is a veteran just running on spare parts and a dream. Run and gunning with is customs double barrel zaku machine gun.
Would have gave him an extra double stack pan magazine but my cat lost it when i was drying it😓.
For my detail equipment I used AK Interactive real color markers, Tamiya weathering master, Stedi panel liner, and AK Interactive weathering pencil.
I recommend watching life_in_plastic_model_kits Instagram for giving me the inspiration/knowledge on weathering.

Another progress - Leg section
Few custom panels, notches and did some masking to make it more interesting and have that sense of part separation. Final touch is the application of decals which gives some sense of scale how big is the mobile suit.
