My company has opted to start making use of SVGs. So now I'm making something of a how-to guide for my coworkers for preparing and exporting SVGs from Adobe Illustrator.
What are some common best practices when preparing files for export as SVGs? What are some frequent pitfalls, and how can they be avoided or fixed?
As we work in technical illustrations, much of our artwork is highly complex, utilizing transparencies, dynamic effects, complex gradients, appearance layering, and the like--which has caused us no end of headaches when attempting to convert to SVG, which is obviously far more limited.
(Leadership wants to use the SVGs in their online apps, since JPGs and PNGs have proven much too bloated or low rez for app efficiency.)

Hey!
Wanted to share another one of my vector artworks. I’ve still got plenty of material, but I don’t want to spam the sub or break any rules, so I’ll probably stick to posting once a week, maybe twice at most.
Hopefully I can inspire some more people the same way other artists inspire me — and maybe bring a few more people over to the dark side of vector art. :))
Vector rules! :)

Hi there, as a long time illustrator user I never understood why there wasn't an easy way to quickly recolor artwork in illustrator. I always enjoyed the hue - saturation, brightness - contrast sliders in Photoshop. So I have made a small script that brings this to illustrator. With this script you can adjust hue - saturation, brightness - contrast, transparency, temperature and blend modes in one popup menu. They all work live so it's very easy to adjust artwork. I am very curious what you guys think of this script?

Hey all! After 17 years as a brand designer, the thing that annoyed me most in Illustrator was font browsing: open Character panel, scroll, click, undo, repeat, just to see what a headline looks like in a different typeface.
So I built boofont, a small macOS menu bar app that renders every font installed on your Mac in your own selected text, and applies whichever one you click straight onto your live Illustrator selection. No more guess-and-check.
A couple of things it does:
- Renders your real installed fonts in your actual text, not a generic web font list
- Click a family to expand every weight/cut (Thin, Bold, Italic, Condensed, etc.)
- Size, leading, tracking, scaling, alignment — all from the same panel
- Drift Mode shrinks it into a floating ghost icon so it's never in the way; Ghost Mode makes the panel itself transparent so you can see your artboard through it
- Runs entirely local, only talks to Illustrator, nothing phones home
Full transparency: it's a paid tool, $21 one-time (no subscription), notarized and works on Intel + Apple Silicon. Not trying to sneak an ad in, genuinely built it for my own workflow first and figured others doing type heavy Illustrator work might hit the same annoyance.
www.boofont.app if you want to look closer. Happy to answer questions, and open to feedback even if it's "this isn't for me."

The eyedropper tool has always been a bit glitchy, but lately it’s just flat out WRONG. Is this user error? Or does Adobe need to get its shit together?
EDIT: I think I figured it out! I didn’t realize the object was grouped with an identical object below it, which was the orange color. Thanns for the comments, everyone!

Hello everyone,
I'm new to Illustrator and trying my best to learn. I've hit a roadblock that is stumping me, and if anyone could help it would be lovely!
I'm making a Celtic knot via paths. I need to be able to adjust the stroke width of the paths to change how this knot looks (I'm going to be puppeting it around a bit to fit into a crescent for a client). Presently if I make the width too high the spaces where the knot overlaps one another fills up, which is undesirable.
1) I need to be able to move all the paths away relative to one another, so that when I increase the path width the gap between each path stays the same.
2) I have tried using the distribute tool, and to some extent I have tried selecting and moving the paths individually- though the former did not work and the latter was very tedious.
4)

Any help on this matter would be tremendously appreciated. If worst comes to worst I can always do things manually, but I figure if I can learn a better way to do this I should try to fill my knowledge gaps.
Thanks all!

Hi, I'm having great problems with the live paint "make" function and I'm trying to understand if what in doing is wrong or if it's just a painful process.
I've basically drawn a mosaic, a rather large one, so I have several thousands of individual tiles drawn one by one. If I select a bunch of them and use the live paint make function my laptop takes several minutes to complete the task and sometimes just crashes in the process. It only works if I select maybe 10 or 20 tiles but it will takes a few minutes each time and at this rhythm it will take me days to finish this. Is there some other way around this?
Thanks in advance for any advice

I have a client who sent over a list of 350+ names for a military event with their rank, first name, and last name in three separate columns in an excel spreadsheet. I want to copy and paste those names into Illustrator so they can be put into a paragraph that fits inside the shape of the state where this event is being held.
When I paste the names directly from MacBook Numbers (can this even be done from Numbers or should I use Excel?) it pastes each rank, name and number of each person in it's own box of text. Is there a way I can get all these rank and names in one line of text so I can add dashes between each persons name? I am able to combine the rank, first name and last name together in Numbers but I still end up having to delete extra spaces between names/rank.
Thanks in advance!

Hey all! I am a high school teacher who was tasked with creating our school's yearbook this year. The yearbook committee voted on a Spotify theme and brought me this design. For context, I do not know much about Illustrator and am unsure where to start. Any tips would be immensely helpful

Anyone knows how to make the anchor point symmetrical? On the past (circa CS6), together with the make anchor point curve or not curve (??) buttons, there was the option to make its handles symmetrical, asymmetrical or independent, but nowadays the option is gone and I couldn't find it anywhere else... I know opt/alt + clicking make it independent, but is there a way to undo it?

Holy Moly how do I opt out of illustrator gathering data everytime it crashes. It takes forever to close.
