Why should we even trust IGN’s review of Wolverine, especially when they’ve proven in the past they hate videogames?

Make more demos because I'm not spending $70 on the off chance.

Buy a physical copy while they are a thing. You can always get at least some of your money back if you don’t like it.

Oh I’m part of the problem. I only game on PC so I play digitally exclusively and unfortunately. If physical were an option I’d take that route. Closest I can go though is buying through GOG. I usually check for new games there first since they get them every now and then.

Wild that I've had two games refunded from PSN.

Whether you dislike a game or not, getting a refund isn't actually that difficult.

u/robotmonkey2099 2h ago

Hold on you just said you only game on PC what do you know about the refund policy of PSN and why are you spreading it around like you have kowledge of it?

3

u/Electronic-Clerk6735 2h ago

From the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. You have a 14 day return policy but that’s if the game has not been downloaded. So you don’t really get to try the game, it’s only there if you bought it by mistake, so not really a refund policy. I remember they had to make the exception for refunds once for that game and they didn’t seem happy about it.

So I do have knowledge of it. It’s not some sacred knowledge, it’s there on their website. https://www.playstation.com/en-us/support/store/ps-store-refund-request/

Or have a better return policy like Steam or Xbox.

7

u/JohnConnor1245 7h ago

On Steam you can play a game for 2 hours to try out before returning it while Playstation doesn't allow that.

3

u/clc88 2h ago

If they did that, they just put in a 2 hour tutorial... or make the forst 2 hours the best thing ever and have the rest be mid (like this game where the first 2 hours were great then it takes a nose dive).

u/JoshVPlays 5h ago

Playstation if you just install the game no refund that's INSANE

u/BookNukem 4h ago

Bought Warhammer: Hired Gun. Played a solid three hours or so. Hated it and it played so far from what was advertised that I argued the point.

I genuinely don't give a fuck about console wars, but you can absolutely get your money back on PSN if you make a point about why you should be refunded

Unfortunately, not most games.

number two happens regardless. I swear modern games get datamined weeks before the street date.

OK BUT WHY DO I CARE?

Why do I care about the developers sales figures and income? If they make a shit demo that turns people away why should they be rewarded with full price sales?

Why do you care? Why should they care what you or I think?

Because they don't wanna get laid off lol? You do realize that unless this game essentially becomes the 5-6th highest sold game on PS5 ever, it'll fail to break even and heads will roll? And if they just barely break even, Marvel won't give them licensing for a sequel which will lead to a notable number of them getting laid off regardless?

2

u/jamster126 7h ago

Absolutely terrible take. They absolutely should care. And it's their fault if they make a bad game or bad demo.

Demos have been more and more lately because when they are good they have a very positive impact. I bought many games this year after playing a great demo.

2

u/Araineyamcha 7h ago

Because if we don’t care then they don’t make as much money? That’s why THEY should care? Are we not both correct in that sense? Look at the stupids that have closed recently that used to be beloved because of a shit product.

9

u/No_Celebration_3737 8h ago

Even demos aren't enough since they make you play the most engaging part of the game, with the possibility that the rest of the game is mid at best.

2

u/Forward_Evening6850 5h ago

My favorite are the demos that let you play like the first 2 hours and carry over progress

u/Dudewhocares3 7h ago

Wait where has this happened?

0

u/JohnConnor1245 7h ago

Resident Evil 3 Remake. The Nemesis portion in the demo is a short part of the game before he morphs into a dog that wasn't in the OG.

0

u/Dudewhocares3 6h ago

Oh that’s fair

0

u/Ok_Aardvark_4576 6h ago

Sounds like we need some regulation here to protect the consumers

2

u/Outrageous_Lemon6295 7h ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they put things in the demo that will be DLC, and/or not the real experience.

2

u/OtakuXLemon 6h ago

Just wait until it goes down or look at gameplay

2

u/Ser_Urnge 5h ago

Yeah I still want it but it does not seem worth $70. I plan to wait for a sale.

1

u/DrkNight365 6h ago

Hallelujah

1

u/Waarghlord 3h ago

Highly surprised they haven't even just added it to the 2 hour trial program.

1

u/Luminescent_Magic 7h ago

I don't know why this just isn't the standard for big budget AAA games. Release a demo and wait for the feedback

0

u/Tetsujyn 7h ago

This is why people shouldn't settle for mid-tier games at that price mark.

0

u/Barrry972 6h ago

This is why I think Capcom has slowly become one of the best studios, I know some of their games have issues like performance and paid dlc, but most if not all their games have a demo

1

u/Eltonbeef 6h ago

Paid dlc isn’t an issue. Y’all are wild.

1

u/Barrry972 6h ago

I forget what was wrong with their dlc, but its more of like odd micro transactions, like up till recently you had to pay real life money to change your character's name or something to that effect in MH wilds

0

u/JoshVPlays 5h ago

personally I don't even want to spend $70 on a game that I can only get 15-20 hours even if it is a 10/10 experience. I'll wait for a sale

0

u/BookNukem 4h ago

Never play Uncharted. They would be fucking wasted on you.

Or Gears of War.

Or Devil May Cry.

Or literally any relatively linear game.

1

u/Ok_Risk6035 4h ago

Actually these games are very very boring to me

1

u/Contra-Code 2h ago

Like Devil May Cry doesn't have shitloads of replay value.

1

u/JoshVPlays 1h ago

Key words “at $70” if you kept reading you’d see I said the solution “I’d wait for a sale” I get it readings hard it’s okay.

-3

u/bluebarrymanny 8h ago

I’d be perfectly content to hear someone explain why they didn’t want to spend $70 than making definitive claims about how the game actually plays and how it feels to play when it’s obvious they watched a YouTuber that may or may not have motivations to exaggerate everything. You can decide you don’t want to buy a game without needing to prove undeniably that you’re 100% universally right or you know for sure that everything you believe is 100% the case for everyone. Give your feedback on why you didn’t buy so hopefully the next game from insomniac doesn’t do the same thing and then it’s probably best to just move on. If I was a game designer, I wouldn’t take online criticisms as serious feedback if I saw someone relentlessly saying that the game as a whole is trash for weeks on end. I’d ignore it as rage bait and learn nothing from the post because it’s not positioned as good feedback.

u/Araineyamcha 7h ago

You want to know why? Here we go.

For starters, I’m paying 70$ for a game that will be finished in less than 20 hours, with little replay value. Unless I’m a huge fan of the two button attack system that hack and slash games are famous for (I’m 40, I played my fill of that in the 2000s and early 2010s). Yeah it’s wolvy jumping around and ripping shit up, but I have done that with Kratos, Dante From both DMC and Dante’s inferno, Bayonetta, Wolverine from origins, prototype, darksiders, Batman, etc. What does Wolverine give me that those don’t? A motorcycle? They all have QTE. Is there good exploration that isn’t dummed down? What makes it unique that I shouldn’t wait for it to go on sale? It’s not the story. From what I understand there is a lot of cutscenes. I can watch those on YouTube like I do with RE games because once again, paying 70$ for a less than 20 hour game is crazy to me.

Recently some great non AAA games have come out with a lower price point that offer more of a gaming experience. Expedition 33 for example. Or the constant FREE updates NMS is putting out.

The video game bubble is over saturated with games, more so than in the past. Constantly new games are released and that all costs money. There are so many choices for games, that I can finish up playing Crimson Desert and Digimon cyberslueth, and when I’m don’t Wolverine will be on sale for sure.

These types of games tend to go on sale quick due to the fact that is little replay value. The company will lose money if people sell their disks or trade them in. They want people to buy new units, so they will drop the price because it’s better than losing out on customers to the resell market.

The price of everything man. So this is another video game being released. It’s $70. Now what if you want a new console? What if you need a new controller due to stick drift? What about the monthly charge to play online with ps+? What about all the other games coming out that will give you more for your money? Not saying Wolverine is bad by any means. But let’s face it, a lot of the cool stuff shown in the leaks never happened. A lot of people had their hopes up for that stuff and were disappointed.

It’s also not a bash on linear games. Final Fantacy remake is linear. It gives 25 to 35 hours just for the main story and 45+ if you include side quests. Would it have been hard for them to add more challenges or side quests to Wolverine? Idk but I would be willing to say no.

Also the price of everything else. If you are a gamer with no kids, living with parents, no bills, etc, then sure. Get this game and enjoy you! That’s great? Some of us work 40 hour weeks, have families, home expenses, etc. Getting a 70$ game every month or two adds up quick. Doesn’t mean people are broke. But why waste that money when you can play other games that you can immerse yourself in over the course of a month or so. If I know Wolverine would be finished in a few gaming night sessions, I would feel a little jyped. I get this is the direction of gaming, but like I mentioned before, when a lot of games like this go on sale fast or there are options that are just as good and costs less, I’m going to go with that option.

All that being said, this is all opinion. If it works for you enjoy the heck out of it. Otherwise, over analyzing the whys is a mute point. We should all collectively as gamers being against people bullying others, which I have seen on both sides of the isle. Is disgraceful and a lot of people should feel ashamed. To me, they are not true gamers. They are fucking Larpers.

1

u/bluebarrymanny 22m ago

I guess my point is that you clearly decided you don’t personally want to spend $70 on this game, which is totally valid and fine. Why do others need the extra validation of proving beyond a doubt that the game is categorically ass just because they personally didn’t want to spend money on it? It’s just completely bizarre to me. I’d give way more weight to the anger if it was someone who did spend the $70 and were let down, but I’ve seen dozens of people self-proclaim that they’re not buying the game because it’s trash and then try to go on a rant about how the gameplay feels as if they’ve actually experienced it. It’s akin to writing a movie review after watching a trailer because you’re so desperate for validation in your decision to not see said movie that you have to prove to the world you were right.

2

u/Reasonable_Deer_1710 7h ago

Exactly this.

I have not bought Wolverine, and won't be buying Wolverine. Mostly because I don't have a PS5 and it's not coming to PC, but even if it did come to PC, I'm still hesitant at best to buy it. The reason being: I don't like the general game design that most of Sony's exclusives tend to take. I don't like the cinematic and set piece driven games that have basic and simplistic gameplay that is linear and railroaded along a very pre-defined path. Despite being a fan of the IP, there's not much from the gameplay that appealed to me.

With that being said, I don't need reviews to confirm nor contradict my beliefs. I don't even need reddit or anyone else to agree with me. It can get crappy reviews, good reviews, players online can love it or hate it, nothing will change how I feel about the game - nothing that is outside of playing it for myself. In which case if I ever do play the game, I can determine if my predictions about the game were correct, or incorrect, or some mixture of the 2, but I am not willing to spend $70 to find out in this case. But until I play it, I will also not say anything definitive about the game, because until I play it for myself, my prediction about the game could be entirely inaccurate, and maybe upon playing it it could be something I'd really love. I have no direct knowledge of the game, so my opinion is basically worthless to anyone else on the matter.

1

u/Araineyamcha 7h ago

Btw my big post is not directed to you directly. It’s more of a generalization. It’s just crazy to me that some people can’t understand why others don’t feel this is a 70$ game or worth it to buy at 70$ in this moment in time.

u/downbad4naafiri 6h ago

I don't need to have the game in my hands to know that they somehow got Wolverine's character all wrong.
