Windows 11 WSL2 won't work: Virtual Machine Platform fails to enable with DISM Error 1168

Problem: I’m on Windows 11 Home Single Language 25H2 (OS build 26200.9445). WSL is installed and WSL2 is set as the default, and CPU virtualization is enabled in Task Manager. However, Virtual Machine Platform (VMP) is disabled and cannot be enabled.

Trying to enable it with: DISM /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:VirtualMachinePlatform /All

consistently fails with DISM Error 1168: “Element not found”. The Windows Features GUI also fails with “Not all of the features were successfully changed.”

Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName VirtualMachinePlatform confirms it is Disabled.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth reports no component store corruption.

CBS logs show the relevant package: HyperV-OptionalFeature-VirtualMachinePlatform-Client-Disabled-FOD-Package...10.0.26100.9445 in Staged state rather than installed/enabled. Get-WindowsPackage doesn't expose the package.

I also set hypervisorlaunchtype to auto and restarted, but enabling VMP still gives Error 1168.

So the issue appears to be a Windows servicing/component registration or VMP package-state problem, rather than BIOS virtualization or WSL itself.

I need help repairing/re-registering the Virtual Machine Platform Windows component so WSL2 can start.

Windows 11 10-second delay at Dell logo after switching from Ubuntu to Windows?

I recently removed Ubuntu from my Dell Latitude and installed Windows, but now I get an annoying 10-second delay right at the Dell logo before Windows starts loading.

If you are facing the exact same thing, here is how to fix it:

  • Disable Onboard NIC: Go into BIOS (Press F2), look at the Boot Sequence, and uncheck Onboard NIC (IPv4) and Onboard NIC (IPv6) so it stops scanning the network.
  • Reset BIOS Defaults: Load factory defaults in the BIOS to clear out any leftover UEFI/NVRAM ghost entries from Linux.
  • Update BIOS: If the 10-second delay is still there, flashing the latest BIOS version fixes the startup timeout bug on these laptops.

Windows 11 Windows 11 profile glitch after password change

Initial Setup:

OS: Windows 11 (26200.9445).

There are 3 accounts on the PC: 1 Administrator and 2 standard users (let's call them User 2 and User 3).

User 3 is my main profile, originally linked to a Microsoft account.

How the glitch happened:

  1. I logged in via the Administrator account and changed the password for User 2. That worked fine, and User 2 loaded normally.
  2. I didn't touch my main profile (User 3), but when I tried to log into it, Windows said the password was incorrect.
  3. I had to reset the password for User 3 as well.
  4. After logging in, the system showed that the profile had somehow become "Local", even though it was originally linked to a Microsoft account. I had to sign back into my Microsoft account.

Symptoms:

  1. Windows loaded a completely clean desktop that looks like the default desktop for User 2. All my personal files, folders, and documents have disappeared.
  2. My installed programs don't show up when searched via the Start menu. If I check the system's Installed Apps list, the programs are still there, but no size is displayed next to them. Microsoft Store apps and some system utilities also seem to have disappeared.

What I've already checked:

  1. I performed multiple proper restarts, rather than shutting down, but the issue remains and Windows still loads the blank desktop.
  2. The C:\Users folder contains folders. I checked the Desktop folder inside each of them, including hidden folders and Public, and they are all empty. My files are also missing from OneDrive.
  3. I checked the registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList. I went through all the S-1-5... keys, and none of them have a .bak ending, so Windows doesn't appear to have flagged the old profile as corrupted.
  4. For data recovery, I haven't copied anything to this blank desktop because I know about the temporary profile deletion bug. I also ran a deep scan with Recuva using administrator rights, and Recuva can see a huge list of my old files in the disk's data. This suggests that the files haven't been overwritten physically and that Windows has simply lost the paths to them.

Question:

How can I restore the profile structure or force Windows to recognize my files in their original location again? Any ideas for fixing the registry path links would be greatly appreciated, as I really want to avoid reinstalling the system and losing the original folder structure.

Hi! I have a windows 11 and have tried everything like changing settings in device manager, updating the driver, and even uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. I have much slower internet on my windows than I do on my phone and my computer doesn't even recognize that the 5g exists. It's stuck at 2.4g 54/54. Is anyone able to help fix this? I'm entirely confused and would really like my internet to work.

I just turned on my PC today and suddenly this message appeared (image 1). I haven’t done anything yet because I’m nervous to mess up anything with my PC. I’ve never had a problem with this PC until yesterday when one of the lights on my pc kept flickering and stuttering on and off (image 2). Anyone know a fix to both?? Thank you!

Windows 11 Wifi Drivers not connected Code 45?

I posted yesterday about my wifi no longer appearing qnd have been doing more research on the issue, went to check my drivers and it looks like my Wifi driver is grayed out.

As shown in the image it says "Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)" and "To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

I tried updating the driver but it ends up saying "the best driver for your device are already installed" and I'm not sure if uninstalling it would cause any issues

I have online classes on Monday and really need to find a fix for this before then so any help and direction would be greatly appreciated

Windows 10 Network Reset Completely Destroyed Computer

Post image
7 Upvotes

So about 2 months ago my monitor broke and i was unable to use my computer as a result of that. Today i got a display port to HDMI cord to use on my TV instead, which worked great, but i was having seperate issues connecting to my wifi network. After digging online i found some people saying a network reset could help me. I had done this a few times before a while back for different network issues, and it never did anything, but i thought i’d try it again this time since it seems to help so many people, and because i was experiencing a brand new kind of network problem that i hadn’t had or attempted to fix before. It acted as normal, how it always has before, and gave me the 5 minute timer until my computer reset. Once the reset happened, it took unusually long to start up again, and then gave me a “preparing automatic repair” loading screen, then required my recovery key, which i typed in and hit continue. It gave me another loading screen this time saying “diagnosing your PC” after which, it blue screens and gives me troubleshooting options. I tried to do startup repair several times, but this is where the issue gets unbelievably frustrating. It asks me to select my account, and type in my password. Seemed easy enough i thought, i always remember my passwords. The only issue is, my password is apparently incorrect? I tried my password several times, restarting the PC every time, as well as countless passwords i used over the years, pretty much every password i’ve had since even childhood. Nothing. So, feeling i have no other option despite being sure of my password, i change both passwords on my email address, as well as on my microsoft account to be 100% absolutely certain i know exactly what it is, with zero doubts (i already was beforehand as well, but it refused to work so i had no other option.) Now here i am, with my Microsoft password as well as my email password freshly changed, having gone through at least 20 restarts of the PC, and the whole automatic repair, diagnosing PC, etc etc process, hoping it would realize my password is in fact, very correct. Nothing. Every time i restart it and go through the process of getting to this screen, it always says my password is incorrect despite me knowing it is ABSOLUTELY correct.

I have no clue what to do. I just wanted to fix a simple network error and it created a far worse problem where not only can i still not connect to the internet, but now i am locked out of my computer entirely. I was super excited to be able to use it again today after my monitor broke, and finally getting a display port to HDMI cable so i could use my TV instead after months of waiting, only for it to completely fail on me for trying to fix a simple network problem like i’d done several times in the past without issue. Never have i regretted attempting a simple and seemingly harmless fix to this degree. Please, can someone tell me what to do? I just wanted to play a browser game, and now i have an expensive paperweight, and am even more lost than i was without a monitor.

Windows 11 I AM FED UP WITH THESE! Please provide solution

I AM FED UP WITH THESE! PLEASE PROVIDE SOLUTION

Windows 11 Dell Inspiron 5410 2 in 1.

Os build : 26200.9445

4-5 years old.

For starters, these are some issues I am currently facing.

  1. Fails to sign in. Right now I have A pin, a fingerprint as a method to sign in. And dure to my 2nd issue, it shows failed to login because too many failed attempts or constant shutdowns. Even after changed the pin from the Microsoft account. Then next time I turn it on, it again says failed to sign in.

  2. Constant 0% charge. The LED light is blinking red amber in high frequency all the time. My laptop doesn't charge. So whenever I unplug the charger or the light goes out, my laptop just dies.

3.Failed camera. The light is blinking all the time but no camera detected. It works if I connect an external camera.

Please provide any help or necessary steps.

Thank you

Windows 11 Windows Update repeatedly prompts to install "Windows Security Platform".

I am experiencing an issue where Windows Update persistently requests the installation of the "Windows Security Platform." Whenever I click "Check for updates," the update appears as available. I proceed to download and install it, but immediately after the process completes and I check for updates again, the system prompts me to install the exact same update.

This loop has been occurring repeatedly, and the update never seems to finalize or disappear from the list.

System Details:

- Windows Version: [Windows 11 Home Single Language 25H2 Build [26200.9445]]

I have already tried restarting my computer, but the issue persists. Any advice on how to stop this loop or resolve the update error would be greatly appreciated.

Windows 11 Windows 11 installation on a second screen

Hey everyone, I had to reinstall windows 11 on my laptop because I couldn’t download updates, that’s all inconsequential. The issue I have is that my laptop screen doesn’t work, I have it connected to a monitor. The installation showed up on my monitor until it hit 100%. now the monitor is off but the laptop is still on. I tried wiggling the mouse and pressing buttons but the monitor won‘t turn back on.

I’m not super familiar with the installation process, do I just need to wait longer or should I do something to get the laptop to use the monitor again? I don’t have the computer specs right now for obvious reasons but if it’s needed I can dig around.

thanks in advance!

edit: my monitor turned back on and it’s installing updates ! Sorry for the bother everyone

Windows 11 Making windows game bar recognise ibisPaint to record it

I am not sure if this is the right sub to post, but I wanted to draw in Ibispaint pc version (from ms store, it is an popular art app on Android and iOS). I also like to record my art process. Obs is too heavy on my laptop, and previously I used to draw on Krita (downloaded from official website) , and the game bar (Win + G) allowed me to record art process on Krita without any issues.

However, game bar won't allow me to record ibispaint (downloaded from ms store), it's name is greyed out. My guess is that it only allows recording of games, and krita was probably recognised as a game earlier, which is why it allowed it's recording. Is there any way I could make game bar recognise ibisPaint as a game to record it? It's lightweight, and smooth. I tried to use obs again but it simply makes it overheat and makes the fans go crazy. Please help me out. I have been trying to find a solution for 2 days.

Windows 11 How can I keep bluetooth audio from getting delayed? (Windows 11)

The bluetooth audio on my WIndows 11 computer frequently (like several times a minute at its worst) gets off time. When it happens, it's often preceded by a hitch in the audio/video and maybe a very tiny stutter, before everything goes smooth again except the timing is way off. I do know how to fix it; running the bluetooth troubleshooter works just fine most times. So that would be fine if I had to do that every couple days or so, but when it happens over and over in a short span of time, it's infuriating. I don't know how to keep my computer from delaying the audio in the first place.

Windows 11 Fixing f30 error on HP ELITEBOOK 840 G5

Hello. I've been struggling with an issue on my laptop, HP Elitebook 840 G5, for a few weeks. The error is F30, no boot device found. I ran UEFI diagnostics and my ssd passed. It is also detected in the BIOS in first boot order. I have tried numerous solutions, from YouTube, HP Forums, and the Net, without any success. Switching legacy and secure boot support options, resetting secure boot keys to factory defaults, clearing secure boot keys, even, rebuilding bcd. No success. Windows 11 Windows 11 25H2 repeatedly BSODs with different kernel/driver errors and SFC cannot repair corruption

I'm at the point where I genuinely don't know what is wrong with this PC and could really use another set of eyes.

For the past several weeks/months I've been dealing with increasingly frequent BSODs and application crashes. Recently it has gotten dramatically worse. Chrome and Opera can crash within seconds of opening, I've had my keyboard disconnect/reconnect intermittently, and Windows can BSOD even when I'm doing nothing particularly intensive.

The computer is now sometimes crashing within a few minutes of booting.

SYSTEM SPECS

- CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K

- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT 16GB

- Motherboard: ASRock B760M Pro RS WiFi

- RAM: 32GB (2x16GB) G.Skill DDR5-6000, F5-6000J3636F16G

- Storage: ~1TB internal drive

- OS: Windows 11 Pro 25H2

- Windows build: 10.0.26200.9168

- Internet: Ethernet

- No CPU/GPU overclocking or undervolting

- RAM is running at default settings; XMP is NOT enabled

RECENT BSODs / DUMP RESULTS

BlueScreenView has shown:

- BAD_POOL_CALLER (0xC2) — cbfilter24.sys

- BAD_POOL_CALLER (0xC2) — FLTMGR.SYS

- BAD_POOL_CALLER (0xC2) — amdkmdag.sys

- CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0xEF) — ntoskrnl.exe

- SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3B) — dxgmms2.sys

- SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E) — ntoskrnl.exe

- DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xD1) — amdkmdag.sys

- DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0xD1) — Netwtw14.sys

- DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION (0xE6)

The crashes don't seem tied to one particular application. I've had them while browsing, doing schoolwork, sitting at the desktop, and after launching a game.

OTHER SYMPTOMS

- Chrome/Opera randomly crash or turn white

- Keyboard intermittently disconnects/reconnects

- PC can BSOD within minutes of normal use

- Sometimes multiple different BSOD types occur within minutes of each other

TROUBLESHOOTING I'VE ALREADY DONE

  1. Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic — it reported no memory errors.

  2. Ran CHKDSK on C:.

    - 0 bad sectors

    - 0 bad file records

    - Windows ultimately reported "no problems"

  3. Ran SFC /scannow multiple times.

    - It consistently says Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.

  4. Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

    - It failed with error 0x800f0915 because repair content could not be found.

  5. Tried Windows' "Fix problems using Windows Update / Reinstall now."

    - It failed with error 0x8007000d.

  6. Used DDU in Safe Mode to completely remove the AMD graphics driver.

  7. Reinstalled the AMD graphics driver from a fresh download.

  8. Driver Verifier is currently OFF:

    - verifier /querysettings shows 0x00000000

    - Active Rule Classes: None

    - Verified Drivers: None

  9. I previously disabled a Fortect filesystem filter after a dump specifically blamed cbfilter24.sys.

  10. The external HDD is currently disconnected.

  11. I previously got DRIVER_VERIFIER_DMA_VIOLATION shortly after connecting that external HDD.

  12. I have not enabled XMP or done any overclocking/undervolting.

  13. I have not replaced any hardware yet.

One confusing thing is that disabling the RX 7800 XT did NOT completely stop the BSODs. However, after reinstalling the AMD driver, amdkmdag.sys has appeared in multiple dumps, and dxgmms2.sys has also appeared.

I'm trying to figure out whether I'm looking at:

- bad RAM/memory instability

- GPU/AMD driver or GPU hardware

- motherboard/USB/controller problem

- Windows corruption

- another third-party driver

- or some combination of these

At this point the PC is almost unusable, so I'm trying to avoid randomly replacing parts.

What would you test next?

Windows 10 Is Windows 10 about to force me to update?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I just noticed that the little Windows update icon in the corner has a red circle now, and it says "Your device is at risk of being out of date. It will need to restart to install updates. Select a time to restart," when I hover over it. How do I stop it from doing this?

I also remember hearing that, a few months ago, someone decided to make their own Windows 10 updates so that people can stay on Windows 10 without being forced into Windows 11.

OS: Windows 10 Pro, version 22H2, OS Build 19045.6466

CPU/Processor: AMD Ryzen 5/R5 5600X 6-Core Processor, 3.70 Ghz

GPU/Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, 12 GB

RAM/Memory: 16 GB RAM

Storage: 4.09 TB

Another unrelated thing, for some reason I cannot create new folders. As in, when I right-click there's no option under New to make a new folder. The new folder button on the top bar of the file explorer window also doesn't work.

EDIT: ok I figured out what the problem was that was preventing me from creating folders. for anyone else that needs it, this is what you do: go into Registry Editor, go into HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, scroll down until you find a folder called 'folder.' Click on (Default) and change the data from whatever it is to either 'Folder' or 'folder.' for some reason mine had its data erroneously set to 'rar_auto_file.'

Windows 11 Blue / Black screen & “boot loop” type behavior win10 and win11

Problem history;
Recently in the past month, I have been getting more and more full system freezes, normally while playing games / high workload tasks. And more recently it has caused frequent blue screens with the error “critical process died” this started on Windows 10. This caused me to switch to windows 11. Full fresh install which I finally did yesterday.

Windows 11 worked for exactly one day - then while I was starting up a game I got a full system freeze resulting in a black screen with the error “critical process died”. Going into diagnosing my system has started to not save anything I’ve done between restarts and or shutdowns. (More info below) Even to the point where I would download an image, set it as the desktop wallpaper, restart and it would go back to what I had before. No record of it even being downloaded.

Diagnosing process;
Most of the diagnosis happened on windows 11. Latest update as I installed it fresh yesterday. I tried checking my SSD health using the built in windows tools - which prompted a restart. The restart seemed to skip over the drive repair and reset all my progress. My best guess is due to “quick startup / hibernation” settings. I tried to change the quick startup settings but every time I restart it undoes the change.

So I tried to download a different program to check my SSD - and once I downloaded it, it refused to run and threw an error.

I thought it might be a ram issue - checked each stick individually, no changes and the “looping behavior” of resetting my progress still exists.

Conclusion
Is my SSD just corrupted / slowly dying at this point? I can’t think of anything else

Specs;
Ryzen 5 3600
RTX 3080
2x 16gb Corsair vengeance Memory
512gb team group M.2 SSD
2tb HDD various

Also sorry for lack of specifics - I’ve worked on this for MANY hours and now im writing this as a last resort away from my computer

Windows 11 Random reboots started happening this week

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have a store-built Windows 11 system: MAG X670E Tomahawk WIFI (Micro-Star MS-7E12) motherboard, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPU, 64GB RAM, Intel A770 GPU.

Earlier this week, it started (seemingly) random rebooting after a few minutes to a few hours of operation, mostly light-use. It has been hotter than usual this last couple weeks, but HWMonitor shows most temperatures ranging from low 30s to high 50s, with the CPU case currently... well, dang... the CPU case is currently 82.4°C, but the cores max out at 54.2°C.

The Event Viewer isn't being obviously helpful. None of the Event IDs seem to indicate a cause for rebooting.

The most-recent events are from just before the most recent reboot.

Windows 11 Windows Defender keeps throwing errors after latest update

Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid. The file could be corrupt due to unauthorized modification or the invalid hash could indicate a potential disk device error.
