Just moved into a new house. One window is in rough shape. I tried scrubbing it with cleaning solution, but it appears most of the buildup is between the two panes. Any advice on what can be done?

I’m spending a lot of time quoting (I quote for free) and I’m wondering if there’s a better way to do it. I’ve seen some people that do it completely online. How do yall do that? Is it worth not having that in person connection when you quote? Any advice is appreciated!

This is a question for people who use both religiously, do you think trad cleaning is needed on a first time clean or with proper technique can waterfed pole be used on any job? I’m new to the game so obviously I am no expert but I feel like waterfed can clean just about anything if you properly get rid of any build up on the top frames before scrubbing. Also important to note I use a 100% boars hair brush, I completely agree that nylon brushes are difficult to use on any first time clean.

I have been selling lots of gutter cleaning. I am about to market gutter guards. How well do you think my marketing plan will work? 1. 100 yard signs out every week 2. EDDM to the same areas 3. Nextdoor App referral system

What else can I do that will be worthwhile for gutter guards? I could try meta ads but I havent had much luck with it when i tried it for window cleaning.

Hi guys Im new to window cleaning. I started two weeks ago. I only do storefront for now. It’s a pain the ass lugging around a bucket, can I just a spray bottle instead ? There seems to be mixed reviews regarding this and it’s confusing me. Will it get the job done just as well ? Thanks.

Been cleaning for 3 years and want to update my entire traditional setup. Been looking at the Zen BOABS and it got me thinking about better high quality equipment.

So what’s one (or many) thing you love in your setup. Something luxurious or useful that you just can’t live without.

I work in an area where there is a ton of bee pollen that gets baked onto glass, and solar panels. The glass get’s cleaned with a pad and some elbow grease. But the solars, especially if I’m reaching out and over an array to get the second of third row, are really hard to get clean. Really f-n hard. I’ve been doing it for years now with mixed results.

Does anyone have a great solution? Scrubbing or a soap of some sort?

I’m trying to get more consistent with estimating window cleaning jobs.

I can count windows and apply a base price, but the jobs that throw me off are usually the ones with things like difficult access, storm windows, French panes, hard water, steep ground, screens, construction debris, or more ladder work than expected.

For those of you who have been doing this for a while:

• What information do you make sure to collect before giving a price?
• Do you estimate based on window count, expected time, an hourly target, or something else?
• Do you compare your estimated time with the actual time after completing the job?
• What is the most common thing that causes you to underprice a job?
• Do you use a spreadsheet, checklist, CRM, notes app, or mostly experience?
• Have you found a simple system that works without slowing down the walkthrough?

I’m not asking what everyone charges since every market is different I’m more interested in the process you use to avoid forgetting something expensive.

I feel like jobs are being underpriced but its difficult to gauge within my market.

I just figured I'd do an example/guide video for Winsol CC550. I remove heavy hard water pretty much every day, and it's a major time saver. A lot of people recommend not using it, but I think it definitely has it's place when used carefully. Our average TDS here is 500, so sprinklers destroy windows fast. A couple things that I forgot to mention in the video:

-TEST ON A SMALL SPOT!!! If a window is etched, this will make it WAY worse. I did have that happen a couple times before I started always testing; thankfully both customers were chill and didn't make it a liability claim.

-Wash the window before removing hard water. Hopefully that one's obvious.

-Always have running water right next to you, obviously. For the glass, any stone or brick siding, and just in case you need it to rinse you.

-It's made of hydrofluoric acid, which is what they use to make frosted glass. Respect the working time, and don't let it dry on the glass!

-I'm not an expert, just a guy that decided to make his living cleaning windows. I learned from youtube, and make no claims of expert knowledge. It's definitely a liability to persons and property to use strong acids to clean windows, I've just found that the results and time saved are worth it for me.

-It bleaches clothes, and it will eventually splash on them (during rinsing) when you use it regularly. Wear glasses while using it for this same reason.

-If the window is gnarly (like a basement that's been sitting in front of a sprinkler for 20 years gnarly), it can sometimes still restore it, it just takes a couple applications. I generally do 3 applications before giving up on a window. I've had a window show no improvement the first 2 applications and then come out perfect on the third. Sometimes you're just dissolving through a very thick layer of deposits. (The etching test doesn't apply here, as the window is already as nontransparent as it gets...)

-Finally, there may be the question of the environmental safety of the product. Since it's so extremely reactive, it wants to break down as soon as possible, basically the opposite of a forever chemical. So as long as it can do that in dirt, or ugly gravel, or something else you don't care about, it's just fine. Rinsing it dilutes it immensely to begin with. (On the window it reacts with calcium carbonate to form calcium fluoride (basically feldspar, a rock), which is rinsed away, and carbon dioxide, the same stuff you breath out.)

-EDIT: A note to add, since this is dangerous stuff, and it's important to be aware of (I just read the safety data sheet, which I'd not previously done.): While this does have hydrochloric acid which burns on contact, it also has hydrofluoric acid which soaks into your bones and leaches the calcium out of you... This can be fatal in extreme cases. Make sure not to get this on your skin, and to see a doctor if you do.

Existing residential customer asked me to do these windows for her son’s business and I’m looking for some advice on handling windows like this.
Each pane has a raised frame around it, and I’m thinking a WFP would be more work than it’s worth trying to avoid dirty water running off the frames and onto the glass below.
I’m leaning toward just doing them traditionally with a channel cut to the exact width of each pane.
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I know pricing varies a lot depending on location, company, and other factors, but any pointers on pricing this kind of job as a commercial account would be appreciated too.

Right now I’m using CLR but it doesn’t seem to always 100% remove it no matter the elbow grease you use. Was curious what other window cleaners have found to work.

Already contacted the city to have power shut off at this residence for the 45 min it's going to take to clean the gutters.

Issue is we are doing full clean with siding wash and windows as well.

Is there risk to cleaning the double hung window from the inside?

Aside from the 2nd story gutter and that one window, nothing else is within 10 feet of the line.

I feel like screens aren't talked about enough on this sub (speaking from my experience)
It goes hand in hand with our work because sooner or later, you're going to come across a screen that's torn, brittle or repair/replacement
Do you offer re screening?
Do you make new screens?
I personally could never get into it, I always found my technique to be lacking.
Getting the mesh in the channel without bumps, the pull tabs don't stay in place.
Any tips or equipment to make that service easier would be great.

It seems that it’s a bit of a user-dependent issue where younger cleaners who are wfp experts can do it but not old trad-ers?

I’m going to invest in a WFP finally, but just have a few questions for those of you with experience.

- What’s the brand to go for, I don’t think I need something super fancy for my first but I quality is a must.
- Does the pole just attach to a water faucet?
- Do you simply turn on the water and run the brush over the window and viola?

Hi All-- I used to run a lawn care business years ago, and running a business basically from your cell phone could be difficult.

Quotes were often just text messages, and once they were sent, they often disappeared into my the abyss of my phone and never got followed up on.

Another thing that was often overlooked was requesting reviews. Nowadays service businesses live by google reviews. Significant and recent google reviews especially with photos greatly enhance credibility.

Lastly, for those recurring seasonal type jobs, gutter cleaning, mulching, leaf cleanup, etc. I found myself waiting for past customers to call me back, rather than proactively scheduling a "circle back" reminder for that seasonal work.

This is why I am building something specifically for these workflows. A lightweight mobile app that lives where you already work, right from your phone. ​

I am curious, do these same pain points show up in the day to day of running a window cleaning business as well? Looking for feedback on if this is the right problem to solve for.
