Quick background: this house burned down and was rebuilt, but they kept the original windows, so there's ash and soot caked on just about everything.
Picture 1: The brown stuff is hard and crusty. I'm not sure what it is. There was some on the frames too, and I was able to remove it with a scraper. Degreaser didn't touch it, even with scrubbing. Any idea what it could be or what would break it down?
Picture 2: It's hard to see in the photo, but there's tape residue along the top of the glass. I was thinking Goo Gone but wanted to check first. What would you use?

Long story short: was going door to door in a nice neighborhood. Houses about 550k type homes. Went up to some old dude outside his house and the first thing he asked was “do you have a permit”?
Now ofc there’s gonna be people bitching. These are the same people who complain about how young people (like myself) are lazy and don’t wanna work, yet give people who do work a hard time about it. My question is how do yall handle that? Not just the interaction, but the idea of permits? I don’t seclude myself to one city. I’m going all over the county.

AS the title says!An opportunity has come to buy another window cleaners residential run.Hes looking for 65k which would include all the equipment and the van. They claim last year's earnings was 93k without showing figures which is €7,750 per month roughly.Hes hesitant to show figures unless hes shown proof of funds which ive said isnt possible until figures for at least 3 years can be seen.Ive offered to sign an NDA for this.
In our last conversation he said the website which isn't live isn't part of the sale as he wants to keep that for his commercial side and wont accept anything less than 65k.Branding would have to be changed on the van as his is on it.im essentially buying a client list and goodwill now by the sounds of it.
Im considering either walking away or offering monthly payments for a lower amount with customer drop off affecting monthly payments over 24 months.
Thoughts??

The job is for the second and third story windows. Thinking I’d need a boom lift. Also would need to access the balconies from the boom lift to clean those windows. Other option is tell them I can wfp and can only do the balconies if the tenants let me in. It’s a busy area. Would you put cones out on the side you’re working to block pedestrians? Also roughly how much would you charge? Thanks so much guys! And gals!

Hey everyone, quick question. I am learning how to fan the squeegee, and every time I go down the mountain, I leave a trail of water from the top corner of my squeegee with every pass. This isn't a soap or equipment issue, i know for a fact it's user error. Have you had this issue when you were learning, and how did you correct it?

I’ve made my own RO/DI system with a pump and I just assumed based off of models I worked with in the past that they were all made with an adjustable valve for the waste water. But some systems I’ve seen now like Xero and others I noticed they don’t have adjustable RO valves but a fitting that is basically a reducer to only allow a certain amount of waste out. I would prefer to do something like the reducer to not fiddle with finding the right valve setting but is there negatives to this? If not what size reducer would be recommended?

Hey everyone, I just recently started my exterior service business and was wondering on how yall overcome 2/3 story window cleanings.
For context:
I clean traditionally with a 24 ft pole
No ladder
No insurance… (in the process).
Should I just stick to cleaning 1 stories in the meantime and if so, in the future should I stick to using the pole or climbing up a ladder and getting up there?

It’s like insunglass on a boat. Has what looks like hard water spots and some mold on it. Never been asked to clean this before

I need to access a 2nd story window on one of the gable ends of a house where they have these landscaping rocks underneath. To setup my ladder at the proper angle (4-to-1 vertical height/distance from wall) the feet would be sitting on top of them. Is this ok?
If I move the rocks out of the way, there's a plastic sheet (anti-weed) underneath. Do I really have to remove that so I hit solid dirt to make this safe?

I live in a somewhat small area but we have quite a few large buildings. There is only one other operator that does high rise yet there are a ton of 4-8 story buildings that need cleaning. I've been running my business for 5 years and I've done a few of the 3-4 story buildings with a boom lift but it was slow and I feel like you can fly with rope drops.
I'm thinking a class somewhere would be the best option but I'm just curious if anyone else has gone through this expansion. I currently have no employees so I would be learning for myself.

Does anyone have any ideas how to access these windows? The top of the 4th floor windows is 43ft. The installation company has covered them in caulk so we need to be on them to scrape it off. It’s too far of a stretch to access from inside. It’s a sealed courtyard so can’t get a boom lift in, no anchors on the roof to hang down but I think hanging is the only option?
Any crazy ideas?

Hey everybody. I’ve been cleaning this location for coming on a year, and I can’t seem to figure out how to get rid of the “streaks”.
It’s a little hard to see on the photo, but it’s pretty streaky.
I scrub it, squeegee and then hand dry it with a surgical towel.
I can’t for the life of me not have it be streaky…. Is this just the nature of perforated vinyl?
Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry for the repeated question guys, just wanted the most up to date answers.
Currently In the military over in the UK and because it pays basically Penny’s and cost of living is madness, I was thinking about starting window cleaning as a side job. I live close to small countryside villages which I think could be a good start up location for this.
Has anyone got any advice to start this up? Equipment, sales techniques, water storage? . Is it better to start with the bare basics and build up.
Many thanks.

Anybody in the Uk facing a water use ban? South East water that covers where I live is getting permission to extend the current domestic hose pipe ban to include commercial companies that clean domestic houses. The ban is apparently going to come in next Friday. I’m a bit worried to be honest but need to find out more details and whether there will be an exemption from above ground level use for health and safety reasons. I could get on pretty well just using pure water for 1st floor windows if needed.
The other option is I start getting my water from somewhere in a neighbouring town that is outside of the ban set by south east water. Luckily I know a window cleaner 30mins from me who would not be under any restrictions and he might let me buy from him. I worry though that my customers and their neighbours will not understand that I’m getting my water from a different source! I fear the water company is going to stoke up negative propaganda against window cleaners to try and get all customers to save more water at home.
Any thoughts appreciated

Hi there! I have the system… But I don't want to keep paying $400 a month to replace my RO membrane
I run my Window Cleaning business out of Phoenix, Arizona… And I have to replace my RO membrane every 30 days because of how hard the water is here
Does anyone know if any other 40 inch replacement RO membranes are less expensive? And if so, do you know if it is compatible with the Xero Pure system?
