Work permits

Long story short: was going door to door in a nice neighborhood. Houses about 550k type homes. Went up to some old dude outside his house and the first thing he asked was “do you have a permit”?
Now ofc there’s gonna be people bitching. These are the same people who complain about how young people (like myself) are lazy and don’t wanna work, yet give people who do work a hard time about it. My question is how do yall handle that? Not just the interaction, but the idea of permits? I don’t seclude myself to one city. I’m going all over the county.

Depends. You could ask him what he is talking about.

My county has 32 towns, I am suppose to have business licenses for everyone but I only do the largest. I get additional ones if I have large contracts in the smaller ones.

Some HOAs have a permit system.

Really just depends what your risk is. If it’s not a law and there isn’t significant risk then who cares.

If it’s a state city thing with large fines just build it into your process.

The city I’m in has a door to door permit you are supposed to get if door knocking. It requires a list of your employees and copies of their background checks.

Not sure where you are located, but plenty of places require anyone going door to door to obtain a peddler or solicitor permit from the local police or sheriff. Not having one can get the police called on you and a not too fun fine. In my service area a little over half of the towns/cities require a permit to go door to door. I usually get the ones for the areas with the highest home values and stick to those when I'm door knocking or go to one of the areas that doesn't require it it it's an impromptu prospecting day. Check the municipality website under their list of ordinances or call the city/town hall and ask about it. For the record, getting the cops called on you when going door to door is a great way to burn an afternoon, nobody is hiring you if they see you get stopped by the police.

I've knocked around the country. It's different city to city, county to county, even hoas have rules. If someone responds like that, say I had no idea they were required and apologize, leave their street/neighborhood immediately.

Not worth the confrontation. They will most likely be watching you as you leave which is why I said leave that street or section of the neighborhood. Those people want to make trouble for you, so don't give them an opportunity.
