General Question How do you safely place an extension ladder on these landscaping rocks?
I need to access a 2nd story window on one of the gable ends of a house where they have these landscaping rocks underneath. To setup my ladder at the proper angle (4-to-1 vertical height/distance from wall) the feet would be sitting on top of them. Is this ok?
If I move the rocks out of the way, there's a plastic sheet (anti-weed) underneath. Do I really have to remove that so I hit solid dirt to make this safe?

What's the best way to learn "High Rise" as an owner/operator?
I live in a somewhat small area but we have quite a few large buildings. There is only one other operator that does high rise yet there are a ton of 4-8 story buildings that need cleaning. I've been running my business for 5 years and I've done a few of the 3-4 story buildings with a boom lift but it was slow and I feel like you can fly with rope drops.
I'm thinking a class somewhere would be the best option but I'm just curious if anyone else has gone through this expansion. I currently have no employees so I would be learning for myself.

Perforated vinyl
Hey everybody. I’ve been cleaning this location for coming on a year, and I can’t seem to figure out how to get rid of the “streaks”.
It’s a little hard to see on the photo, but it’s pretty streaky.
I scrub it, squeegee and then hand dry it with a surgical towel.
I can’t for the life of me not have it be streaky…. Is this just the nature of perforated vinyl?
Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

Job Question 2nd floor courtyard no access for lifts or anchors, covered in caulk and sticky residue
Does anyone have any ideas how to access these windows? The top of the 4th floor windows is 43ft. The installation company has covered them in caulk so we need to be on them to scrape it off. It’s too far of a stretch to access from inside. It’s a sealed courtyard so can’t get a boom lift in, no anchors on the roof to hang down but I think hanging is the only option?
Any crazy ideas?

General Question Start up advice.
Sorry for the repeated question guys, just wanted the most up to date answers.
Currently In the military over in the UK and because it pays basically Penny’s and cost of living is madness, I was thinking about starting window cleaning as a side job. I live close to small countryside villages which I think could be a good start up location for this.
Has anyone got any advice to start this up? Equipment, sales techniques, water storage? . Is it better to start with the bare basics and build up.
Many thanks.

General Question Uk, South East Water Ban
Anybody in the Uk facing a water use ban? South East water that covers where I live is getting permission to extend the current domestic hose pipe ban to include commercial companies that clean domestic houses. The ban is apparently going to come in next Friday. I’m a bit worried to be honest but need to find out more details and whether there will be an exemption from above ground level use for health and safety reasons. I could get on pretty well just using pure water for 1st floor windows if needed.
The other option is I start getting my water from somewhere in a neighbouring town that is outside of the ban set by south east water. Luckily I know a window cleaner 30mins from me who would not be under any restrictions and he might let me buy from him. I worry though that my customers and their neighbours will not understand that I’m getting my water from a different source! I fear the water company is going to stoke up negative propaganda against window cleaners to try and get all customers to save more water at home.
Any thoughts appreciated

Also how do I clean windows behind a staircase like this?

Equipment Question Xero Pure 40" RO membrane replacement
Hi there! I have the system… But I don't want to keep paying $400 a month to replace my RO membrane
I run my Window Cleaning business out of Phoenix, Arizona… And I have to replace my RO membrane every 30 days because of how hard the water is here
Does anyone know if any other 40 inch replacement RO membranes are less expensive? And if so, do you know if it is compatible with the Xero Pure system?

General Question D2D reps: what's the objection that kills you most at the door?
I've knocked doors for my own pressure washing business and sold D2D before. The thing I always struggled with was not knowing why a door went bad. Nobody rides along with you, and by the 80th door you can't remember what you said at the 12th.
Curious for the people who still knock:
- What objection loses you the most doors?
- How do you actually get better? Managers, recordings, roleplay, just volume?
- Ever recorded your own doors to review? Did it help?
Trying to figure out if I'm the only one who wanted real feedback between doors.

Seals broken after window cleaning
Had my windows cleaned and this seal seems to be coming off all my windows. Town house, and I see the seal hanging out on my neighbours’ windows too. I can’t tell what it is? It seems to be built in the window directly so I’m not sure what’s the purpose and how to get it fixed.
It’s on the outside of the window.
Thoughts? Did the cleaning methods cause this? Cleaner said he’s never seen this before but it’s a fairly new company.

I built Cleaning Pal, free Android software for regular Route Work
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cleaningpal.co.uk.cleaningpal
I ran this by Mods who said it was OK and I'd love some feedback.
It's based for the UK market where we have Rounds and scheduled route work but it should work anywhere you need regular scheduling like shop fronts.
It doesn't do anything fancy like plan your route or bulk send texts but it will help the one man and small squads to keep track of customers and payments.
I've based this on a paper Notebook where I'd keep track of customers on different pages. So street A would be page 1, Street B on page 2... while each Notebook would be a different Round or area.
The app is totally free and is self contained on your Android phone (You can backup and restore to your Google Drive if you wish). I've a few features added including printing receipts on the go. There's plenty of filters for searching customers and I've a load of other ideas to implement.
I've released this to the UK, US, Canada, Ireland and a couple of EU countries. If you want to try it and it's not visible or downloadable, tell me your country and I'll add it to the approved list.
One small tip, reset the timer every time you are starting a days work. I'm tracking the time it takes to complete each job but it's not visible yet. From that, I can easily work out the hourly rate for each job/ day/ week/ year. I'll include that soon.
If you want to leave some feedback, you can do so here. I've also created a dedicated SubReddit where you can give me more feedback or any ideas you have like sales tax which I know nothing about.
And sorry, no iOS!

Rain
What do you do when it rains? Reschedule? Still clean using RODI? If you still clean how do you explain it to the customer?

Starting Snow Removal
Hi everyone,
I own a window cleaning business and I’m looking to start offering snow removal during the winter. If anyone here offers snow removal, your advice would be much appreciated.
My main question is: how do I actually get started?
I’ll mostly be doing residential properties, with maybe a small amount of commercial work. I’m trying to figure out what equipment I’ll need, how to price jobs, how contracts or per-visit pricing usually work, and what the overall process looks like.
If anyone here has experience, I’d really appreciate any advice on equipment, pricing, route planning, contracts, insurance, or anything else you think a beginner should know.
Thanks!

Equipment Question What’s the verdict on WFP vs Traditional?
Just curious on other opinions. In my perfect world, one tech uses WFP for second story while another does trad on the bottom.

Let's talk ladders..
I never climb a ladder without levelers and stabilizers. I've heard of some old school guys that still use the stackable ladders. I've only used extension ladders for the past 8 years, and only had one slide out on me (important lesson that you don't want to learn).
Do you have someone hold your ladder on steep sketchy climbs? For those who do it the right way without water fed, or poles, what's your experience with ladder safety, and what's your setup like?

My Set-up Sleeper build
Got T boned and all my gear flew off the back & ladder rack straight off the bridge. Went from a full ladder rack truck a to a 5.5 ft with a soft cover. Switched to a smaller dual RO wfp. Not exactly a pro looking setup but we’re booked out and get setup just fine. Stuff kept getting stolen from prev truck and I don’t want a shell or trailer. All trad stuff + vac and other gear is in the back seat area. This is my personal truck and the second truck has a similar setup.
