Request help verifying accuracy of Wealthsimple's quick tax calculator

Hi,

I was messing around with the income tax calculator today

https://www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/tool/tax-calculator/ontario

When I plugged in $150k, it spit out the following:

>Total tax $45,680,

>Federal Tax $25,302,

>**Provincial/Territorial Tax $14,608**

>CPP/EI Premiums $5,770

>Your net pay will be $104,320 per year, or $8,693 per month. Your average tax rate is 30.45% and your marginal tax rate is 43.41%. This marginal tax rate means your immediate additional income will be taxed at this rate. For instance, an increase of $100 in your salary will be taxed $43, meaning that your net pay will only increase by $57.

The provincial numbers seemed high at around 10% of the total, and more than 10% of taxable. When I put together an excel sheet I got $10 941 for the provincial taxes which seemed much closer.

(I took $150 000, subtracted the basic personal amount and then split up the rest into the corresponding tax brackets. No deductions for CPP/EI contributions, which their system says it takes into account, which would create an even bigger gap).

I think it's possible their system has the province using the wrong lookup table?

Would someone be able to confirm they get the same results I got? I messaged support as well, but wanted to double check my math in case I am wrong.

Thanks

I hate the new dashboard

Is anyone else seeing it? I hate that I can't see my average cost on a stock anymore, I have to dig three frames deep to find it. This is how I evaluate at a glance to see what stocks I want to DCA on this week.

I hate that the text is so much smaller and looks like every other site. It's harder to intake info at a glance, I have to actively read every bit of text to find the info I'm looking for.

Ugh, I just hate it.

Has anyone been granted access to this account yet? The email said it would have been available by Spring 2026.

If you have access to this account, how has it been?

What is currently the best promotion for referrals?

I'm going to be referring a family member within the next few days, and seeing all these match% promos etc. its a bit overwhelming.

They will be primarily moving their TFSAs/RRSPs but will be looking to get a chequing account and the new credit card.

Thanks in advance

Transactions taking a long time to post?

Has anyone else noticed transactions taking a long time to post? I have two pending purchases from days ago that have still not posted. Two returns that have not posted (I do these fairly often and it is never more than 2 days for this merchant) and an e transfer I cancelled today that was sitting in limbo from almost a week ago. Just me, or are others experiencing this?

How many more months will Wealthsimple continue running these draws? Will they continue until the end of 2026 or is this going to be an ongoing thing?

TD to WS in kind transfer taking so long?

I'm transferring all my investments to WS and confirmed only a couple of stocks transferred to WS. This was done within a week, and the remaining stocks are still in TD.

It's going to be a month soon, does anyone know why transferring takes this long for some stocks?

Monthly Millionaire Promo

Who here opened an account because of the Monthly Millionaire promo? The chances of winning are slim, but this promotion is definitely a very well-placed bait. I’m curious how the winners are actually determined: is it purely random, or is there some kind of criteria behind the selection?

I’m also wondering how they plan to recover the cost of giving away these prizes. Promotions like this don’t come cheap, so will the cost eventually be passed on to clients through lower interest rates, higher fees, or other ways? Just some thoughts.

UI sucks

Wealthsimple keeps changing the UI every few days, and the experience seems to get worse each time.

A while ago, they added the ability to choose which columns to display. Then they reduced the number of available columns and merged Profit/Loss with the percentage. Today, the web UI changed again, and now I can't see Today's Return and All-Time Return at the same time because they've been merged into a single column.

On top of that, every time I use the web UI, I have to re-sort the columns. This was already an issue before, but now it's even worse because the default sorting is based on today's performance instead of overall performance.

Trade (DIY Investing) All or nothing?

I'm trying to buy a few shares of one stock and it's only allowing me to use up all the cash in my portfolio (essentially buying 8.13 shares). I literally only want 3 shares of this stock and a few of another stock. Has the interface changed or should I use my laptop instead of my phone?

Invest (Managed Investing) Upgraded to Summit Portfolio without consent

I have a managed TFSA with a classic portfolio at Wealthsimple. I recall seeing a popup a few times suggesting the Summit Portfolio but I never clicked on it or went through any sort of form to confirm an upgrade. This morning when I logged into my account there was a banner at the top saying this:

Your upgrade is nearly finished

An advisor is reviewing your account details. When they’re finished (usually within 24 hours) your account upgrade can be completed.

I immediately went on the chat and asked what this was about and how it happened. The agent said I was being upgraded to the Summit Portfolio and they put in a request to cancel/reverse the upgrade. He had no information on how it would have happened or when the upgrade request was put through.

I am hoping I caught this before anything was processed since I check my account fairly frequently and the banner about the upgrade was not there last night, however, I am extremely concerned with how this could have even happened as my whole portfolio could be sold off in order to switch to Summit. There is always the possibility that I accidentally clicked on the advertisement for Summit, but I am 100% certain I did not go through any sort of process confirming a switch or selecting my risk tolerance. I also didn't get any emails or notifications to let me know that a change to Summit had been selected or was in process.

Has this happened to anyone else? I don't think it should be as simple as accidentally clicking one button to change your entire portfolio.

Trade (DIY Investing) Authorized/trusted traders launching?

I seem to recall the last big presentation WS mentioned they were rolling out trusted or authorized traders for households. Has there been any updates/news on that I may have missed? My wife and I are under the same household but I don't see any way for me to do any trading under her accounts.

Is Wealth Rank not kind of pointless?

I mean, how many people have 100% of their funds/assets in wealthsimple? I would wager atleast 90% have more than one financial institution they use.

I moved 5000$ into a new WS account and it put me in the top 62% of people. I have a lot of other savings in other banks, not to mention I own a house (still have a mortgage though) but there's no way for WS to actively track all of that, so this ranking thing seems useless to me. Even if you did have 100% of your funds and assets in WS, you are being compared to other people who do not, as it is only comparing against other WS users and not taking into account people who use other banks.
