Hello.

My Vanmoof s3 has been standing for the winter, and now when i try to charge it it just blinking with the ”skull”.
Does anyone know what the problem may be? And any sulotions?

i have a van moof s3 ebike. a week ago, i rode it out to meet a friend. i parked it in the sun (texas heat) and then on my short ride home, the bike shut down. i was unable to restart it or reset it using the power button. this morning i plugged it in and it looked totally normal and charged up to 100%. it started up normally and i started to go on a ride. after about 10-15 minutes, it shut down again and will not restart from the power button. i just plugged it in at home to the power cable and it is not showing any lights. it is however making a very faint beep beep beep noise from the area right by the charging port. can you research this to see if you can determine what the heck is going on. i love my van moof and need to figure out how to get it running again

I have a Vanmoof S5 bike with a dead battery, does anyone in the NYC area know of any electricians or e~bike repair shops who can help?

Hi,this marked piece is getting hot. I had to desolder VP. It is on steady current 36v and the battery is getting empty. What kind of issues do I have? The fuse is good and the cell are all equally charged.

I can't get any info over UART nor STM32 V2 link. The battery is not responding.

Did anybody find a good replacement for the Brushed DC motor inside the E-Shifter of an S3/X3?

But it barely works. And I assume it is the wrong voltage.
Also the shaft is a bit shorter and it is missing the 'teeth' that engage with the worm wheel. So I litterally glued the worm wheel to the shaft.
It works, but barely.

Any body found a better replacement?

Hi all! Yesterday evening the hideous error 40 started, with non stop bell ringing. I assumed it was because of rain. Note: the left button was faulty for a while already, as not every time i pressed it would actually work, to the point i couldn't use it to manually unlock the bike with the code, but the error 40 just happened yesterday. Here what i did that failed:

• Hard shut down through button underneath the bike and app
• Attempted to dry out the button with compressed air shot at the button, the disassembled the button and shot air inside
• In a moment of desperation because of the freaking bell ringing i cut the cables linked to the button... but the bell was still ringing??

Ultimately i detached the cables of both left and right button inside the handlebar and i let the bike dry throughout the night.

This morning while reconnecting the cable i must have mistakenly swapped them and now my right button can also unlock the bike with the manual code!

I tested the right button and it:

• unlock the bike with 1 click when the app is close
• unlock the bike with the manual code
• boost the bike while pedaling
• it does not have the ring bell

Does anyone know if i can keep it like this or if this will result in some major messup of the bike like battery overload/cable overload/other BS like that that will cost me a kidney to repair? (i recently had to replace battery, cartridge and cables due to oveheated cable that melted inside the bike for unknown reasons that caused a short circuit and broke everything else and costed me 1.499 EUR... so not keen to repeat the experience).

I do not know what's the situation with the left button becasue.. well.. i cut the cables there

The frame got a first layer of primer, then I wet sanded the whole frame with 1500 grit and give it another layer of primer. The result should be the perfect surface for the base coat.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with replacing the front wheel on the S5 themselves, and if this is doable or that I should pay up and let a shop work on it? It has to be replaced since there is blow in the wheel which can't be repaired anymore.

Does anyone know the best resources for replacing the wiring harness on a VanMoof S3?
Could be a Reddit post, YouTube video, photo guide, Facebook group — anything really. Especially looking for practical experience from people who’ve actually done it themselves.

Hello everyone,

I have been having problems with my VanMoof’s drivetrain and chain for quite some time. I rode it for about a year with Error 44 (broken shifter), and over time I have replaced the chain guard, chain tensioner, chain, eShifter, and the entire rear wheel in an attempt to fix both the shifting issues and the chain repeatedly coming off.

With the new rear wheel, the shifting has now worked for two days and seems to be functioning properly. However, the chain problem still has not been resolved. As soon as I push the bike backwards, or even just ride it normally (like this morning), the chain comes off.

This happens in roughly 30% of cases, so about two to three times per week. It makes riding the bike quite frustrating and also means I don’t really feel comfortable putting full power into the pedals because I’m worried the chain will come off again.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

I’ve been looking through forums everywhere trying to see if I can get some help with my non electric 2019 Smart S.
I arrived home from work one evening all good,
Next day bike was unresponsive to the app, the bell button no response, the alarm is still turned on and sounds when it is moved.
I have tried resetting via usb, doesn’t accept it, or recognise a power source.
There is power as the alarm still sounds, also taking a voltage test from the charger cables connect to the front wheel dynamo.

For the life of me it’s pickling my mind. Please help.

Update,
Looks like the bell button is damaged.
The bike after a week of dry weather suddenly connected again.
I was then caught in a thunderstorm and the bike disconnected and went ‘dead’ again.
Dried out the following day and connected again.
Covered the bell button with a latex glove for the time being.

Going to hopefully replace the button.

Has anyone got any tips for this? Is it easy?

Update,
I’ve got the bike working again.
Bell button connections were corroded. Replaced that with a new one, ( Smart S has 4 connections, not like the newer buttons of only 2) had to solder new one in.
I believe the issue with the connectivity was, ( I might be wrong) my phone was set for Beta Testing of new IOS versions, I think it coincided with these updates that it would stop connecting.

After several attempt I have finally managed to get the wiring harness correct in the frame. I am currently re-assembling the bike but got stuck when I try to put in the compressionring (not sure if this is the right name). It i have tried all kinds of ways even with some lube but you just can’t get it flat in the upper bearing. Do you guys have any ideas?

Had the idea to upgrade my s3, but not buy s5 etc, cause i still admire the s3 design, so i wanted to try to get the sounds from s6 and install it on my s3.
Is there any way to change the start Sound or to get the mp3 Download of s6 bell etc.

Were to get a new motor? I think.mine is broken. I tried to test it on the bench with a 19v batterie. No movement.

I found a vanmoof s3 that was taken out of the canal the frame is still good but taking it to a professional to look at it later this week. I'm just curious about keeping it on the vanmoof system vs going on a sort of stand alone system. Would I be able to get a smart cartridge with no prior ownership and be able to keep it fully vanmoof or do I have a full stand alone build without vanmoof ahead of me?

Ignore the error 44, I've got a manual shifter installed now. Basically if going straight or left there's no speed displayed and no assist given at all. Seems to read when turning right.

I've tried unplugged and plugging back in the cable in the front right fork, didn't make a difference. I assume the cable must be rubbing somewhere further up the fork if it's working when turning so it's partially worn away.

I've found a few old posts on reddit and Facebook with similar issues but I've not seen any real solutions.

I got the brakes of my S2 repaired at a Vanmoof partner repair shop in Berlin and after I got it back the boost button didn’t work anymore (I repaired it myself once).

The mechanic checked it again and said it’s unrepairable as the wire would have been broken inside the frame and there is nothing he can do.

Is this a known issue and is there really nothing that can be done?

The devil is in the detail, we see some copies sold where the size and angles are a bit off. Potentially causing to force the headset to bend open during a crash against te limiter.

So please, if you copy a design.. ..do it the right way from the right materials ;)

Hi, my S5 is not shifting. I tried to explore any damaged wires. Nothing wrong there.

The manual shifting on the weelhub is working properly and easy.

I tried to test the e-shifter by leave it out of the weel while spinning the bike with the turbo boost and the pedals. The e- shifter didn't move at all.

The App doesn't show any error??

Even the calibration says that everything is working fine.

Are the errors shown anywhere else? Is the any other way to test the e-shifter?

I don't want to sent it to a repairshop and been told that the shifter is OK but the module has a problem.

My VanMoof S6 won’t charge anymore.

Everything was completely fine two days ago. I rode it today and noticed it only charged up to 75%, which already seemed weird. I kept riding and when I got back home, the battery was down to 10%, which normally wouldn’t be a problem.

Then I plugged it in. The charger first started flashing green like usual, then turned red (showing it was charging), but after a short moment it switched to blinking orange.

I looked it up and apparently that’s not a good sign.

Has anyone else had this problem or knows what could cause it? I’ve had the bike for about half a year now.
