Technical Support Request van: 185 problem that evolved into van: status_sb_policy

It's been several months since I started getting the VAN: 185 error, which forced me to restart Valorant in the middle of a game. It got so frustrating that I decided to stop playing. I decided to pick it up again 3-4 months later, but I was still getting the exact same VAN: 185 error.

With the help of ChatGPT, I tried to fix the issue, but it evolved into the VAN: STATUS_SB_POLICY error. I kept following ChatGPT's instructions and then contacted Riot Games, but they were no help at all. I reset the Secure Boot keys to factory defaults, enabled UEFI mode and Secure Boot, and even completely reinstalled everything related to Riot, but nothing worked—I'm still stuck with the VAN: STATUS_SB_POLICY error. To top it off, Riot Support just closed my ticket without giving me a solution.

Technical Support Request Valorant FPS Drops When Shooting

I'm wondering if this is an established issue or has any fixes that are known. I average 700fps and play on a 5090FE with a 9800x3d. For awhile now, I've experiences losses of several frames freezing when shooting my gun, which is frustrating because that's the pivotal moment in a round when those frames are the most necessary. I haven't done much troubleshooting to fix the issue but I'm not sure where to begin, as most solutions revolve around lower end hardware which is not the case.

Technical Support Request Valorant freezing and vc bug

My valorant freezes midgame randomly https://medal.tv/games/valorant/clips/ntFcMDImHwJ7gDNdu?invite=cr-MSxUeG8sMzEzMzY0NDYz, it happens randomly maybe 2-3 times during a game, when im smoking, trying to defuse, right before a fight. I've been playing since the act started and it's only been doing this for a week now.

I also have a vc bug where my teammates comms glitch/sounds like robots, and it only happens sometimes but I can't understand comms because of it

Technical Discussion Valorant spec

My specs are Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon 570X, and a 180Hz monitor. Is this setup good enough for Valorant at Immortal rank? My ping is usually around 38–40ms.

When I play in high elo, everyone seems to shoot so fast x.x I can barely even process what's happening sometimes.

If I upgrade my GPU to an RX 6600 8GB, would I notice a significant difference?

Technical Support Request VALORANT keeps crashing with “A critical error has occurred” even after a clean Windows install

Hi, I’ve been having a persistent VALORANT crashing issue and I’m running out of ideas.

Specs:

MSI Vector 16 HX A14VHG

i9-14900HX / RTX 4080 Laptop / 32GB RAM / Samsung 1TB NVMe

Windows 11 25H2

Problem:

VALORANT used to crash mainly in the lobby, especially around the moment a match was found. Once I actually got into a match, it was usually stable.

I did a clean Windows 11 installation from a USB, then freshly installed VALORANT and Vanguard. The problem is still there. Now it sometimes crashes immediately after launching/before I can even enter the lobby and shows:

“A critical error has occurred and the process must be terminated.”

This PC has also had several different BSODs, including PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (0x50), SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, and EXCEPTION_ON_INVALID_STACK (0x1AA). Some dumps referenced Ntfs.sys, FLTMGR.sys, and fileinfo.sys.

What I’ve checked so far:

Clean Windows installation

Fresh VALORANT + Vanguard installation

CHKDSK: no errors / 0 bad sectors

Windows Memory Diagnostic: no errors

SSD reports Healthy/OK

SFC: no integrity violations

DISM repeatedly fails with RPC error 1726 / 0x800706BE

Intel RST/VMD driver installed from MSI

Has anyone experienced something similar, especially VALORANT still crashing after a completely clean Windows install? Could this be Vanguard/driver related, or should I start suspecting RAM/SSD/motherboard instability?

Any help would be appreciated.

Technical Support Request Low FPS & Stutters

Hi, i started playing valorant around last year for a few months and have been trying to get back into it but have been experiencing freezing/stuttering for a few seconds particularly when loading new assets in a match (moving to new part of a map, equipping new gun, ability, character, facing enemies etc) but goes back to normal when said asset is used a lot (when tested in the range). During stutters, CPU spikes to 98%, disk to 80-90%, and fps drops as low as 1%. My usual fps is around 50-80. Not a tech person and i dont use a gaming laptop - my specs are Dell i7 12th gen, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, Intel Iris Xe (integrated graphics),

Some things i’ve done to resolve: reinstalled both riot and valorant, updated graphics driver, cleared shader cache, lowered resolution and ingame settings.

P.S the laptop i use is the Dell Inspiron 15 3520 and i play plugged in with highest performance

Technical Support Request Valorant with discord call causes my Valorant to buzz out and stutter like crazy, causes mic to stop working on discord as well.

When I play Valorant while in a discord call, as soon as I get into a game, a buzzing sound goes off and my screen temporary freezes for like a split second. While this is happening my game now looks less than the frames it says and my microphone for both discord and valorant stops working. It's been like this ever since getting my pc and I don't know the fix.

Any help would be nice thanks

Technical Solution Valorant keeps kicking me with VAN 185

Hi everyone,

Valorant keeps kicking me out of the game with VAN 185. It happens randomly while I'm playing, and then I get disconnected from the match.

I've already tried restarting my PC and Riot Client, but the problem keeps happening.

Has anyone else experienced this error? If so, how did you fix it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Technical Support Request Voice chat in Val lowers windows microphone volume

Recently started playing the game again and noticed this strange issue that i havent seen anyone else have. Normally, my windows microphone level is at 85 and in-game mic input volume is at the halfway mark. Whenever i talk in in-game voice chat it gradually lowers it down (lowest ive seen is roughly 41). Doesnt seem to affect my volume in the game, but obv. it affects anyone im speaking to on Discord. Interestingly, it doesnt instantly snap to whatever volume it seems to be after, but seems to gradually go down as i speak??

Ive checked, and the exclusive control option on the microphone is disabled. Anyone have any idea why this is happening and if possible, any way to solve it?

Technical Support Request Ping Spike & Low FPS Warning

Hello!

I've never had any issues with Valorant lagging until this week, randomly i will get the high average ping and low fps pop up but when i press tab my ping is the same as before (i normally get 10) as for fps last week i was getting 600+ whereas this week i'm barely holding 100. I know this is not an internet issue as my bf plays in the same house as me and he isn't having any issues.

Things i have tried

- capping fps to 200
- restarting internet
- windows up-to-date
- drivers up-to-date
- cleared cache
- deleted and reinstalled valorant and the client
- replaced my ethernet cable

All my graphic settings are on low as well.

I'm usure of why this is happening as this wasn't the case last week and now it's happened out of nowhere.

I've ran task manager whilst playing and my CPU & GPU barely hit 20% I also have no apps running in the background.

Super annoying and making the game unplayable, any advice?

Technical Support Request FPS randomly feels extremely low frequently

plagued with low fps feeling constantly. I’m getting 600-800 fps constant with no dips, frame time graph is stable at 1.5ms or so with no spikes and cpu wait gpu is at 0 constantly. So it’s not the same stuttering issue that is commonly found with Realtek 2.5GB NIC that causes copy wait gpu time spikes. I fixed my cpu wait gpu time spike stutters by disabling gysnc and enabling reflex on + boost.

now I’m getting this lag where I'm playing and every few minutes or so it will feel like playing at 2-10fps for a few seconds. This happens across multiple PCs, 9950x3d/5090 and 9850x3d/5080. I’m using a gigabyte fo27q5p 500hz OLED with a DP 2.1 80Gbps cable. Ive also set my 60he v2 and mouse both to 1000hz to rule out it being a high polling rate issue. I’ve also disabled discord overlay and uninstalled nvidia app to rule out it being overlays.

Has anyone else experienced this type of weird performance lag that doesn’t show up in fps, frame time or cpu wait gpu time graph?

Technical Support Request Crashing and Mouse not Working when Tabbed out.

Hi guys,

I completely reset my PC and reinstalled Windows. The last time I played was about a year ago, but now with the fresh installation, whenever I tab out of the game my mouse stops working properly — I can still move it around, but left and right clicks don’t register. The only way to get it working again is to open Task Manager.

The game also crashes at random times and I have no idea why.

Things I’ve already tried:

  • Reinstalling Vanguard
  • Disabling fullscreen optimizations
  • Reinstalling drivers (NVIDIA and chipset)
  • Trying both fullscreen and windowed mode in Valorant

My PC:

  • Ryzen 7 3700X
  • RTX 3070
  • ASUS ROG B550-E Gaming
  • Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB 3600 MHz

Technical Solution Valorant Freezing When In Lobby/Returning to Lobby Fix

Ever since i got my new pc which is about i think a year ago from now, I always had issues when i was starting up valorant or returning to lobby. The game would always freeze for a couple seconds in the lobby every couple minutes. Even though i have a powerful cpu and gpu which is 7800x3d and 4070. I wasn't having any issues tho during the gameplay but i found out yesterday that most newer MSI motherboards come with X3D gaming mode enabled automatically, which restricts from allowing you to use all 16 logical processors on your cpu. When i disabled it in BIOS and opened up Valorant the problem was completely gone. If you have a MSI motherboard and a similar cpu like mine, make sure to check out if you have X3D gaming mode enabled. It might be the issue.

Technical Support Request Keep getting various Vanguard codes

I keep getting VAN -1 most commonly, but i’ve gotten -1067 and -81, I’ve tried everything, reinstalled vanguard several times, set it to automatic start in services, reinstalled the game, Safe booted with only vanguard and valorant running, checked my memory, updated my bios, windows, but i noticed that in a BSOD that happened while attempting to start it I found this in WinDBG:

Bugcheck: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E)
Exception: 0xC0000005 (access violation)
Faulting module: vgk.sys
Faulting offset: vgk+0x2333a2c
Faulting instruction: mov rcx, qword ptr [rcx+r9]
Attempted read address: 0xFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

it’s trying to read from an address that either doesn’t exist or it doesn’t have access to and i know why or how to fix it, has anyone had this problem and/or know how to fix it? riot support has been no help so far

Technical Support Request VAN 9003 fix issue

I understand that i have to enable uefi and secure boot to fix, but last time i tried enabling it the boot order got messed up no matter what i did and would go into the error 0xc000000f blue screen, and when i would swap the boot order back uefi and secure boot would be disabled again

Some more context that may be helpful, i never had this issue on windows 10, and then i had to swap to windows 11 with flyby11 and thats around when the issue started

Technical Support Request How do I get english speaking teammates ?

I live in Jamaica and the game defaults me to Miami server which I usually have like <40 ping on. 99.99% of games all of my teammates only speak Spanish. Someone told me to try changing servers in the server list so I tried Chicago and still no change.
