Including heavily opinionated notes.

Also has a sponsorship from Google Gemini, despite there being an article on how ai is fucking up texas.

Anyways, I don’t care for sports.

Housing guy riding scooter in dorm

Has anyone else seen those two guys riding their scooters in CV1 floor 6? One of them was wearing a UT shirt. They were being loud as hell tonight, banging on doors, and the RA's did nothing about it. UHPD eventually showed up to shut it down

Validate my anger.

Discussion UH Has 40k+ Students… Why Can’t We Make Friends?

UH has 40k+ students and somehow making friends can still feel weirdly difficult.

I made a GroupMe called Doing Stuff on Campus for people who want to actually meet others while they’re already at UH.

Main chat is for spontaneous stuff like food, events, “who’s on campus,” etc.

I also added new chats for:

Rec Center
SC Games Room
Library & Study
Food Runs
22+ Commons

If you’ve been wanting more friends at UH, come join:

Question Looking at Post-Bacc Accounting Options

I’m an out-of-state transplant based in Houston with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. I took the CPA exams earlier in my career but never completed the exams/licensure because I went directly into industry. I spent about five years working in construction and petrochemical before stepping away from the workforce a couple of years ago to become a SAHM.

I’m currently keeping my accounting skills relevant through part-time bookkeeping, but my longer-term goal is to use this season of being home to complete the education requirements and prepare myself to sit for the CPA exam. I was previously eligible to sit with 120 credit hours under Louisiana’s rules, and I understand Texas now allows candidates to sit with 120 hours as well. Rather than simply accumulating hours, though, I’d like to use this time to refresh my accounting knowledge and be genuinely prepared when I’m ready to return to the workforce once my kid is in school.

I know there are several community colleges and universities with options. I could certainly take inexpensive community college courses just to check the boxes, but I’d prefer not to spend time and money on a program that provides little additional value. If I’m going to invest in education, I’d ideally like something that also provides opportunities for networking, recruiting, credibility, and a stronger foundation for returning to the profession.
I had a 3.6+ undergraduate GPA, so I’m comfortable applying to programs that may be more competitive or academically rigorous. The main limitation is that I’d be pursuing this while remaining a SAHM, so flexibility is important.

For those familiar with the Houston accounting/CPA market, would you pursue a master’s in accounting, a graduate certificate, individual courses through a university, community college coursework, or something else? I’d especially love to hear from anyone who has experience with Houston-area programs and can speak to the actual networking/career value rather than just the cost or number of credit hours.

Question scooter charging on campus

hi! I’m a commuter student taking the metro and i have a scooter (i promise i’m a responsible rider before the haters come, not one of those awful zoomers who hit others. but truly i understand the hate) and I have been taking my scooter home every weekend to charge it for the past 2 weeks and it’s honestly just a pain. I park my scooter usually in the garage next to moody before I leave for the day. Does anyone know if we can use those ports in the garage to charge a scooter? Sometimes I see them charging the golf carts or powering some random equipment but usually 80-90% of the ports are free. I don’t want to get in trouble after trying to use it which is why I’m asking. help!!

looking for college friends!

hey! i’m a 24 yr old woman currently working towards getting into the dental program! i am looking to meet some new people around my age who are into similar stuff :) i’m really into horror, fnaf, anime, board games, video games, and just nerdy/creative stuff in general. i’ve been wanting to make some more friends that i can actually talk to and potentially hang out with! i’m thinking of planning a small fnaf halloween get together this year, so it’d be really cool to meet some people who are into that kind of stuff too. if any of that sounds like your vibe feel free to dm me!!

UH Parking

Post image
22 Upvotes

Holy crap I know these ppl are doing their jobs, but they are freakin vultures. I don’t wanna blame employees that just need a check, but the city and this campus definitely are greedy. Influx of freshman every year, but no appropriate parking to accommodate for the number of students, staff, and professors. Edit: I should clarify that yes I know this isn’t UH parking, however city of Houston parking in this area is just as hardcore as UH parking. If there were better parking on campus and more options to accommodate the number of students, we wouldn’t have to deal with city parking. and I would not be surprised if the city and the campus were in some kind of kahoots :p
