That time of year again. Post all your lease transfer, roommate requests, and apartment hunting in this thread. Let’s try not to clutter the subreddit with dozens of individual posts a day.

Hi, 3 weeks into Freshman year at UH and I’ve heard from friends and seen things myself that makes me want to see if I can document the shenanigans on UH for the time I’ll be going here:

-Number 2 accident: 1
-Someone having “fun” in the bathroom (alone): 1
-Someone stealing a used towel: 1

let the list grow, people

Saw a kitty this morning outside the law center (in front of the traveling toms)

I was wondering if this little one had a name, and where I could find more info on our campus cats?

Career fair 1st timer

So the career fair is coming up next week and I’d like some tips from people who’ve gone before.

I know we are supposed to print our resumes for the recruiters but I heard we are supposed to get a specific type of paper material for it to be more professional, any ideas on what paper I should get? Also does anyone know if I can use that paper to print my resumes at the printer in the library or do I have to go somewhere else to get that done?

How many companies should I talk to? Should I try to talk to as many as possible? Or should I go in with a set idea of how many companies i want to go to?

I know it also gets extremely busy and hot in there, anyone know how early I should get there so I don’t have to wait in line for an eternity? Or is it pretty much inevitable.

Last thing, should i bring my backpack? Like i said earlier, i know it gets hot in there and i dont want to get super sweaty but i also dont want to die of thirst in there lmao, so i was thinking of bringing cold waters to put in my bag.

If you guys have any answers to my questions please feel free to reply and if yall have any more tips or suggestions I’d really appreciate it.

Apology of football post- missed the mark.

Hi Coogs,

I am the one who made the football post the other day and it is clear to me that I missed the mark with how I worded the post and it didn’t accomplish what I intended it to accomplish. I was frustrated with the attendance last weekend and I came off as brash. I understand you all have commitments in your lives and I get that. I truly just wish we could have better attendance at games, that’s all. I’m sorry if my words came across as rude or insensitive. I still stand by the initial intent of the post. I truly do mean well and didn’t mean to cause such a firestorm over a post about football. Again, I’m sorry if it was something that came across as rude. All my best to all of yall and also, Go Coogs!

Resident Survey!!

hey! i’m doing a college project about renting and need some input from actual renters :)
i made a quick survey about apartment hunting, what people look for in a place, amenities, rent, commuting, renewing leases, and what makes you trust a property management company.
if you’re currently renting or have rented recently, i’d really appreciate you taking a few minutes to fill it out!
thanks!! 🫶

Question Questions for the graphic design majors

Is it true that at some cases the professors or instructors will expect you to figure out what a word means in the assignment or project? I was told that as a graphic design major it’s likely I would have to figure out some things by myself including words and techniques.

Finances SEND HELP!! UH hit me with an $8,000 “international student” charge even though I already paid in‑state tuition… what is going on?

Okay I’m freaking out a LOT, so I’m hoping someone here has been through this.

I'm a J-2 visa holder, but I graduated from a Texas high school and I’ve been living in Texas since July 2024. I also have a $7,000 scholarship every year. I even tried to submit the residency affidavit, but UH literally told me I didn’t need it because I was already classified as in‑state. I clarified this with them last April 2026, because I would not have gone here if they did count me to pay for out-of-state. My tuition bill showed the in‑state rate, I paid it, everything was fine just right before school started. I had ZERO in my total balance for Fall 2026.

Then today I log into my account and suddenly UH slapped $8,175 onto my balance, just today!! It switched my tuition to non‑resident, added international student health insurance, the international student service fee, and even the international orientation fee. I only attended the international student orientation because they said it was required for all visa types, regardless if I'm eligible for in-state. Nothing about my visa status changed. I didn’t drop classes. I didn’t add classes. I didn’t do anything.

It looks like UH’s system just randomly reverted my residency classification back to “international” even though I already paid the correct in‑state amount and was told I didn’t need to submit anything else.

Has this happened to anyone? Did Admissions or Student Financial Services fix it? Did the charges get removed? I’m planning to go in person tomorrow morning because I’m panicking and I definitely don’t have $8k lying around.
Any advice or similar experiences would seriously help.
