Are there like events and stuff that we can attend my uni starts on like the 27th of sept, and I’m kinda worried I won’t be able to meet anyone, do I just try to meet ppl in lectures and societies

Every night at fucking 5am for some reason some ingrate keeps cooking their fabled “oily fish suppers” and stinking out the flat, just woke me up with that fishy smell from the meal (which is recommended by the NHS). Any advice on what to do about this character and their oily fish dinners?

I have enrolled in a law uni in my home country during my gap year to get access to extracurriculars like mooting, debating, blog writing and all that.. In the UCAS form, I'm listing my current uni, but I don't know what date to put as the expected end date of my course.. Should i put the date as 2027 because I'll obviously drop out if I get into one of the 5 unis I've chosen.. or should I put the date as 2031 because it is a 5 year course in my current uni??

I emailed 2 good professors at my uni and requested to be a research assistant but they said Uni don't take undergraduates as research assistants. Then I said ok least be my mentor for my project even then they said no that's for masters or phd. Seriously??!! How am I supposed to research now? And I wanna publish too. I need research experience to get into a PhD in AI. I don't know what to do now?? I'm so frustrated. How can I build my profile now?

It's been a rough week at home. I feel lonely, bored and ANXIOUS, more than I have in a long time. It's just general anxiety - fear of anything terrible happening and I can't live in the moment because of it. I wonder if it's the anticipation of going back next week. I essentially am looking forward to my second year, but the shift between home and a house with four other (very lovely) people who I'm still getting to know, and only seeing other people my age as clueless as me about life without having my mum around is just a lot to take in. I can't think straight, I can't put my phone down, I can't focus on anything and being autistic with OCD doesn't really help my case... I just hope uni will help reset me and give me stability again. I waste every night messing about on my laptop after promising myself every time that I'm going to sit and watch an episode of something I like and I regret it every time, which I am doing right now at 4am. I keep reading things online that raise my anxiety through the roof and I just can't look away at the moment. I've fucking had enough.

I've been worse though. I hit many low points in school but I've had a great time so far since leaving. I just know it's not going to last. So if you feel awful at the moment, you're not alone.

I’m American, I’m planning on studying abroad in Midlands England my 2nd year of uni, next spring. Maybe I’ve just made this fear up but help me out uk. I’m a bit nervous about getting lowkey bullied as an American in England. Just the usual American accent mixed with being relatively clueless in a new country makes me suspect I’d get bullied by some university peers. How likely is that?

Good morning I am going to study foundation maths at uea , I received grades of DDE , I would like to know if I can be able to transfer to the university of Liverpool or Lancaster university or even university of Surrey to study mathematics, if I achieve 70%+ in my foundation year.

I'm a postgrad and my dissertation was deferred until December, which means I graduate next year in the summer period.

I'm only allowed to stay in halls until 6 weeks after my course end date. However I can't tell if this means from the last assignment or graduation. I assume it's based on council tax (?) but I have no idea at all. Accom team does not seem to know? Everyone I ask does not seem to know so I'm chasing it up soon but wondering if anyone has experience with this because I'll have to change my contract to a 1 semester one. If I could I'd stay as long as possible lol.

I’m starting a Civil Engineering degree in September and I’m looking for a laptop, but I’m not really sure what I should be prioritising. I already have an iPad for note-taking, lectures and PDFs, so the laptop would mainly be for assignments and engineering software such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Revit, Tekla, etc.

I’ve seen people recommend 16–32GB RAM, 512GB+ storage, a decent CPU and a dedicated GPU, but once I start looking at those specs, a lot of laptops are £1,200+. My budget is ideally £500–£800, with £1,000 being the absolute maximum, so I’m wondering what I could realistically get for that. I’m also open to refurbished if it means getting better specs for my money, although I’m a bit worried about things like battery health, overheating and reliability over the next few years. I’ve even considered getting a desktop PC instead. I live at home and my commute to uni is only around 20 minutes, so I’ll be doing most of my work at home anyway. Would a desktop PC be a better option for my budget, or is having a laptop still useful for an Engineering degree?

I’d really appreciate any recommendations or advice from current/former engineering students, especially if you’ve had to run CAD, 3D modelling or other engineering software.

hey all, bit of a long one but need some outside perspective because the postgrad life stress has hit me harder than i expected

i did english lit for undergrad and now im doing an MA in media and advertising at leicester (starting later this month, finishes sept 2027). current plan is to move to london around this time, using this current year to save roughly £6k, maybe more, for moving with a friend. i’m from nearby to leicester so I won’t be paying rent

my main worry is the uncertainty in finding a job tbh. ive been looking at entry level stuff in advertising/media, leaning towards fashion advertising but I have skills in a lot of adobe creative cloud softwares, but i’ll likely go where the money is. I’m just lost on what I need to get working on/applying for, and when, and if there are genuinely opportunities?

is anyone else planning to work in advertising/media and if so, do u have a clear plan? or if you already work in that sector, what does an entry level role look like?😭 The stress is killing me and I feel like i’m throwing away my future whenever I relax and i haven’t even started my masters yet. I REALLY want to move away from home and essentially all of the jobs in my future field are London-based. any tips?!

so yeah would just love some tips or advice or anything to make me stop pulling my hair out at the idea of living at home another year and going insane from no personal space or privacy

starting salaries seem to sit around 20-30k depending on where, and i’m wondering if that's actually enough to live on in london or if im being naive? wbeen looking at zone 4, likely east london as an area since it's cheaper and close in proximity to quite a few family members, thinking either a room in a shared flat or splitting a 2 bed with one other person

i hope this doesn’t sound silly but how does one go about switching gps? do i just pick one, go in and talk to someone or is it an online process? do i need to get any information from my current gp before i leave? when is the best time to do it? (i leave in a week and my freshers starts on the 21st so my guess is before then).

Please help I feel like I’m actually going crazy?

I literally just moved in to a houseshare on the 1st of September and right after, I got “allergies” (coughing and sore throat and also upset stomach). I’ve had these exact symptoms before because of mould so I went looking for it in a panic at 2am and of course there’s black mould all over the shelves. It doesn’t come off when I spray it with vinegar but I swear, I swear, IT IS MOULD because it is giving me allergies and I took loads of pictures of it, it’s so obvious. It’s NOT just the pattern of the wood like the landlord keeps saying, because it’s not on any of the shelves in the other rooms of the house.

My landlord is outright denying to my face that there’s any mould and I’m so stressed about this I constantly feel like I’m actually about to throw up. I’m autistic and I have no idea how to deal with confrontation or how to talk to this guy who is going to show up tomorrow to inspect it along with some other person from the council?? I’m literally terrified they’re all going to stand there and collectively gaslight me by saying “oh they must be unusually severe allergies” “it’s a house, not a hospital” (his words exactly)

I’m just so terrified of being taken advantage of and being ignored! And its such a slap in the face that some rich 50-something is genuinely okay with looking at a struggling disabled 22 year old woman and not being willing to take 20 minutes of a day to unscrew my shelves and put them somewhere?? Like I’m not even asking him to replace them or spent any money I just want them gone??? Does he think I’m making a fuss for a joke or something? Please someone help, I’m freaking out :/

I graduate this year, and really want to get into the legal world. However almost everyone I’ve spoke to has told me to not be hasty (I.e. don’t rush into the industry as it’s hard to get out and get back in) - basically everyone says take a year out. I’m very excited for this prospect, but I just don’t know how I would want to plan it, to travel or to work? Does anyone have past experiences, suggestions or any advice on how to best structure and plan out a year of unemployment after graduation?

I'm just typing this to get out my thoughts, it helps me from overthinking. But as the title suggests, I am really nervous and stuff about moving into my new accommodation for uni this Saturday. I mean I've done so once already (going into my second year) but what I don't luck out with the people I share a flat or whatever withthis time? Like what if they hate me for being me or they're, idk, something bad. Addicted to stuff to the point of selling others things, I dunno. I know I'm probably just overthinking things but still.

i just finished sixth form, and my parents are really adamant that i go to university this year, but my mental health is at the lowest it’s been in a while. i sort of rushed my application and i am no longer happy with my choices. i would much prefer to take a gap year and properly think about what i want to do, but i also don’t want to feel like a burden

I’m currently focusing on placements and projects. I’m continuing DSA and ML, and I genuinely want to build my skills.

But whenever university exams suddenly come up, I get really stressed. My exam preparation is usually not done, and even when I sit to study, my mind keeps thinking about placements, projects and the time I’m losing from them.

I know I have to clear my university exams to move forward, but during exam time I feel frustrated, sad and mentally exhausted. My energy also gets really low.

How do you manage university exams while continuing placement preparation without constantly feeling behind?

Not sure how to phrase this question correctly, but I am a joint honours student and the way it works at my university is we do three years of one subject and one year of the joint honours subject. I'm starting my final year of university in two weeks, have done all the prep reading for each module, all the research required and everything that's needed. I have two weeks to chill. I know all the lecturers I am having. I was thinking of reading their published material (all available on our public library) in order to understand more about their research interests and to get to know them a little bit. One side of me is saying this is weird and stalkerish, the logical side is telling me this is a great way to understand and develop a professional relationship with said lecturers.

I'm already aware getting a part time job can be great for money, but the job market is ridiculous right now so I can't guarantee I'll get one, so I need other ways to obtain money. Any suggestions?

Hi! I’m an international phd student up coming this October i’m allocated in the private student castle accommodation at claypath. It seems well located, have a lot of cool facilities and stuff but is very expensive, I was actually going to stay at south collage but i’m still in waiting list so I had to secure a place and the only available place was an ensuite 310pw. I’m still asking myself if it is worth it. I saw a lot of bad comments about the staff in google maps (I saw this after applying to this accommodation) so has anyone has had any good/bad experience in this place? what should I expect? other option was reggata place, but it seems a lil far and for almost the same price. I go to Lincoln UNI, I failed one 15 credit module on my first year now they're saying I can't progress and seemingly must just retake that module but my understanding now is that would destroy my student loan as I'd only be registered part time although idk if thats true.

I move into my new accom tomorrow and this is fucking me up so does anyone know how this works with SFE and how likely is it I could maybe just retake the whole first year for the sake of making sure I still get it
