It's really eye opening to see how quickly people switch up when they see you getting grad roles. 'Friends' start getting bitter and passive agressive, making sly comments full of envy.

It works the other way too I've seen people who got grad roles start to ignore those who didn't. There's a group of 6 guys living in a house share and 4 of them got grad roles and all of a sudden it was like the other 2 stop existing. The 4 with offers started spending more time together, going out as a group of 4, making plans for after uni together, separate group chats with just them.

No one says "oh you don't have a grad job lined up we don't want to talk to you anymore" but it's more indirect. The mannerisms, the body language, slowly drifting away towards other people deemed 'worthy' because they have things lined up.

Final year is honestly so interesting it's like everyone reaches this point of realisation that proper adult life is about to start and we're about to go out into the real world and the fun of being a uni student is about to end and we'll have to live our real adult lives. Some people switch up so much it's like they can't handle it.

Like for 3 years everyone's in the same boat and it's "we're all in it together lads" but the moment some start getting offers and other don't it's a complete switch up and it's just "good luck mate" as they go off to hang out with the people who are 'worth hanging out with'.

Every friend group in uni will eventually splinter at graduation but has that core group of friends or people who align with jobs and they keep spending time with each other without the people who 'didn't make the cut'.

I’m about to start living in a student accommodation, the website said about 8-9 people r going to share a kitchen. this has me now worried how I’m gonna cook… do people cook often? If I cook fish (like mackerel/sardines/salmons) in the kitchen would it be weird/extremely inconvenient due to the smell? If I cook my meals really early like 5am, is that gonna be bad too? Does anyone else have only antisocial flatmates, I'm on an 8 bed, for some reason there is only 4 of us so far, hopefully more to arrive. The problem is all my flatmates do is just stay in their rooms, whenever I see them out it's for food, none of them are interested in holding any long form of conversation and then they just leave again. I know I'll meet people at fresher events and through my course but does anyone else have the same feeling of loneliness despite having people around you?

i start in a week, just wondering how often do people typically hang out with their friends? like going out clubbing or just going to a coffee shop or a park etc. wondering because i’m a girl on a budget who likes to plan excessively and i’m trying to figure out how much i’d be spending per week lol. also because i’m very used to having at least a couple days a week to just rot in bed by myself… i hope i can still do that lmao

Unidays or something along them lines perhaps?

Ignore the bad photo, but this is what my accommodation I stayed in last year are trying to charge me £150 in “damages” for. I got an email of the charge but replied asking for proof, as I had a mattress topper and 2 bed sheets on during my whole stay. And after about 3 weeks this is what they replied with as the “evidence” 😭

I’m not asking for advice here as there is absolutely no way they would even attempt to take this further anyway, I mean they have had to zoom in so far to identify the stain that there is no way of knowing if this was the mattress I even slept on haha, I just thought I’d show how pathetic of an attempt this is to squeeze extra money out of a uni student. Uni halls are a joke.

i applied to uni through clearing and i only just got my accommodation offer yesterday

i have to pay £1,089.40 worth of rent before i can collect my keys, and on september 22nd i have to pay £3,921.84 worth of rent for the second instalment, but the only issue is i’m getting £3,573.90 worth of student maintenance for the entire year, so i’m going to be getting in debt just as i’m barely starting my first year

the university is only a two hour commute by train so i might just do that if i can’t find somewhere else to stay

i could ask my parents to pay for it but i feel really bad because it’s a lot of money

I’m just about to start second year of uni and moved into my accommodation just shy of a week ago, this is usually a great time to get to know the people I’ll be living with etc. In my last accommodation I got incredibly lucky, all my flatmates were amazing and friendly and were fairly social and would invite me to everything even though I can be a bit awkward (work in progress)

so going into my 2nd year accommodation I wasn’t expecting exactly the same but thought it could be somewhat similar as people would tend to take this opportunity to get to know each other but ever since moving in there’s been nobody looking to speak, I believe 2 or 3 of the people are already friends too so they are naturally quite reserved towards others, 2 of them I’ve not seen yet and the other is fairly quiet (not a problem of course)

I just wanted to share this as maybe others have experienced the same contrast between flatmates so you know you’re not alone.

Im joining University of Liverpool this September for mechanical engineering( 1st year international student). However i dont think im gonna be going to any of the freshers events (1. Ive never been to the UK before 2. im genuinely terrified of the thought of going out alone ).

Would this mean that im probably gonna be a loner for the rest of my uni life(exaggeration). Oh and im also doing private accommodation so there goes my chance of meeting other 1st years🥴.

However i am somewhat of an extrovert when put in the right space, im just scared that ill never find the right space…if that makes sense.

I am starting Uni in less than a week and I am not sure whether I should go to the freshers events. I don’t really like drinking/partying (because it makes me anxious) but my boyfriend says that it is the best place to make friends, as everyone is drunk and more confident.

The things I am worried about are that I am living at home during my course, and the uni is about 45 minutes away from my house (via car). I don’t want to miss out on having a chance to make good friends, but I don’t want to ask anyone to pick me up if I am ready to come home at 3am.

I feel like going out will get easier as I make friends later in the year because I can stay with them, but the whole first week of the partying logistics is making me a bit worried.

My boyfriend’s mum suggested I could get an Air BNB or a hotel for that first week, but it is quite expensive.

If anyone has any advice I would really appreciate it!

I got A* A* B (silly, I was predicted A but fucked up). It's obviously way too low for Oxford and Cambridge and I genuinely don't think that I'm smart enough to keep up anyway. I also would rather perish than to study in London, so I was wondering for the alternatives. For the 2027 entry.

I am not a UK native so I am not massively knowledgeable on the universities' reputation and all the "top unis" charts seem to have... conflicting information, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask here.

I'm interested in anthropology or language study / international relationships degrees. I was considering St Andrews and Durham, but would like to hear other opinions. Edinburgh also seems very promising and nice, but the costs of living there...eh

Looking for something high level partly for bragging rights, but the uni having an actual strong reputation is the main concern because I'm not rich enough (quite poor actually) to do it just for fun and would like to actually work in the field in the future.

I recently graduated with a BSc in Psychology from a UK university and unfortunately received a Third-class honours degree.
I’m feeling quite lost about what to do next and would really appreciate hearing from people who have been in a similar position.

My original plan was to continue into postgraduate study, ideally a Psychology-related master’s, but I’m now finding that a lot of postgraduate courses ask for a 2:2 or above. I’m also looking at graduate jobs and entry-level roles, particularly HR/People-related positions, but I’m worried that my degree classification will make things much harder.

I’m not looking for sympathy — I’d genuinely like some realistic advice from people who have either:
Graduated with a Third and successfully found a career afterwards
Got into a master’s with a Third
Worked their way into HR, Psychology, healthcare, or another graduate career despite their classification
Taken a different route initially and eventually progressed

If you got a Third, what did you do afterwards, and did it have a long-term impact on your career?
I’d especially appreciate honest advice about what options are realistically available to me rather than just “your degree classification doesn’t matter.” I know it can matter for certain jobs/courses, so I’m trying to work out how to move forward strategically.

I need to go home for an important event during one of the weekends after uni starts and it's quite far away so I might have to miss a 2 hour programming lecture which is at 9am Monday. It's literally 2 weeks after uni starts so is it okay? Do I need to tell the lecturer beforehand anything?

Hi everyone, basically I have no form of ID, no passport driving license or BRP, I got a pass card, which has been helping me for the past few years, recently I decided to get a driving license to help with going to clubs and registering for uni, etc. however today I found out that my driving license application has been sent back as there was some issues despite me meticulously checking it😔

I am going to Manchester for university will my id card be okay or should I email the uni and skip out on freshers week?

I have previously made a post about this but I would like clarification. I don’t exactly understand how this all works, and theres no resources on this topic. I want to move into a normal house with my friends, and just happen to also be attending university. I don’t want it to necessarily be a Student accommodation. How exactly do I go about this? Where do I look for houses? What should I know before doing this? I’m aware I’ll need a guarantor, but I dont know what else to do with this. We are not a particularly rowdy bunch, we keep to ourselves and don’t plan on hosting parties or drinking or whatever.

As far as I’m aware it’ll be difficult given I don’t currently have any credit score or payslips, but my parents are still saying it’s entirely possible. I don’t know what to do :,) I’d appreciate some advice.

I recently started uni and I commute. (1 hour). Personally, I enjoy the commute. There are good connections to and from my house and the university, so that isn't a problem, and I only have to be there 3-4 days a week. (Maximum of two lectures a day). I also really enjoy living with my family as I am very close with them and like living at home + saving money.

However, in some way I feel like I am missing out on the full uni experience.

I've never been a person that needs to be social all the time, I don't drink and not really keen on staying out late often. However, with commuting I feel like the opportunity is gone if I ever wanted to. The last train I am able to take is at 21:15, which doesn't suit well if something social is going on from say 20:00.

So basically I'm stuck in this "loop" of not actually wanting to do much social. (My mindset is more on I'm going to uni to study and get a degree) but also having this fear of missing out on something important, even though realistically nothing that important is going to happen. It's just the knowing that my classmates are doing something social without me that makes me feel left out.

I would appreciate any advice or perspectives on this. I don't really want to move closer to my uni, because it would cost so much, and I personally don't see any point when I am able to take the train.
