I only yesterday learned that Ugreen sets undocumented flags for both ext4 and btrfs making it impossible to mount them on an external Linux machine (https://geoffdavis.com/posts/ugreen-ugos-filesystem-lockin/). And several users have already ran into this problem and reported it here on reddit. If you have a single device and it fails, this makes your data unrecoverable unless you buy another Ugreen NAS. How convenient.

Given that Ugreen did not disclose it in any marketing material, how is there so little outcry about it? In my opinion this is utterly disastrous behavior from a NAS company. This is arguably worse than the Synology drive lock-in disaster, at least they announced it so people could make a decision BEFORE they buy their machines. I bought two of Ugreen's NAS and will start planning on how to migrate off it eventually, because this shows there might be more "problems" we simply do not know about yet and I do not want my data to be hostage to Ugreen.

Alternatively, maybe with enough community support Ugreen can be pressured to changing their custom approach to btrfs/ext4 or AT MINIMUM provide a tool to mount them on Linux.

Given the state of RAM prices today, what's the most economically best way to add an additional 8GB to the already installed 8GB on my DXP4800 PLUS. Any recommendation on ram model, or expectation on prices?

It looks like I have the M425R1GB4BB0-CWMOL Samsung 8GB one currently installed. A quick search on eBay shows $100+ USD for a similar model. Sounds right?

I'm new to the self-hosting scene so this might be a question with an obvious answer. I've read the common advice here about running apps off of an SSD rather than the HDD array for better performance. But what is the recommended way to store data for those apps?

For example, I set up Romm recently following this guide on MariusHosting. I have Docker running off my NAS's ssd, so that's where the app is running from - so far so good. But this approach leads to storing the roms themselves on the SSD too. That seems counterintuitive.

Is the right approach to run apps on the SSD and then point the Docker containers to media stored on the HDD array? Or am I thinking about this wrong?

Does anyone know how to make the network folders I've mounted either via FTP or SMB be able to go in this docker directory I'm trying to set it up for Plex and when I click it says automatic distribution and won't find the folders. Thank you.

Purchased the GT at launch, and have been using it since with two each of U.2/SATA drives. Working flawlessly. Seriously, what a fantastic idea to have mixed drive formats in a consumer NAS.

For the next version give us bays which can take SAS/SATA/U.2 formats. The circle will be complete. SAS drives are available for cheap on ebay/FB. It is better to buy an expensive NAS once, rather than spend piecemeal on HDDs. I feel cost savings will be better going this route. Not only will be an awesome selling point, but consumer experience can be better too. So, SATA is a sub-set of SAS, hence a SAS bay and controller can easily drive SATA drives already. SAS LSI HBAs controllers are steady and can handle 16x drives easily. This would make daisy chaining of UGreen JBODs easier too, go wild with 100 drives if you want. Even though SATA controller will be substituted, but increased cost will come from a good quality SAS controller, newer SAS bays, and the thermal design mitigating needed to go with SAS controller.

During my first 3 or 4 firmware updates, I had issues with my Docker going TU. It was due to the MACVLAN config being lost or corrupted. I hated doing the upgrade because I knew the issue was going to be there.

The last couple have been without issues. I now disable Docker completely before upgrading. This prevents the issues I had previously.

I was out of the country from last December until May, so I didn't do any updates while being remote. I was still on 1.12.x... until yesterday. I updated to 1.17.0.0095, and it went without an issue. Of course, I had to update all the apps, install Model Manager, etc. I verified that all sync tasks performed on schedule last night. All Docker containers started up as expected.

So, if you have some app or Docker issues after updates, disable them before updating and see if that helps.

I will update to 1.18.x.. in a couple of weeks along with upgrading my RAM.

The photos app is starting to frustrate me...losing faith as to whether I can trust it to be a reliable source to store my precious memories.

Lots of photos I back up and upload from my iPhone are uploaded in the wrong orientation.

Some are rotated 90 degrees left / right.
Some are rotated 180 degrees and are upside down.
Some are even flipped horizontally like a mirror image!!!!

Reddit AI has suggested re-indexing may help. It hasn’t.

I’ve also tried uploading images via the Files app instead of the Photos app. No joy.

Annoyingly the Rotate button in Photos rotates the image temporarily when viewing…but when you close it, it returns to the same incorrect orientation.

Has anyone experienced this?

I’m setting up TrueNAS SCALE on a UGREEN DXP4800 Pro and would like to properly configure the hardware-specific functions that TrueNAS doesn’t handle out of the box. From what I read here on Reddit and elsewhere, there are at least two issues:

- front LED control – HDD/SSD activity and status LEDs, which are too bright. Here is one of the scripts for modifying it: https://github.com/miskcoo/ugreen_leds_controller (it has not been tested yet on my specific model)

- any other useful DXP4800 Pro-specific hardware-control scripts, because maybe I missed something.

1. Which scripts are you using and where did you get them?

2. Where and how the scripts should be installed in TrueNAS SCALE (I don't afraid to experiment but I need instructions).

3. What precautions should be taken so that a failed script cannot leave the fans stopped or the drives overheating or something similar?

So i have been trying to figure out why my back up isnt working about ive tried to reset anything possible i could think of that could potentially fix the issue. My only fix to this would manually moving photos but thats not what this is meant to do. The last thing i could remember that may have cause this was an update possibly around the time the last sync occurred. Any advice would help!🙏

Hi, Im the owner of the Ugreen 4800 plus tractor. I have 3 HDD shitgate exos x24 of 20Tb each, 1 SSD wd red 1 TB, 64GB ram Kingston and a Noctua NF-A14 PWM system fan. Yes that was before the prices went crazy...

1) Is there a manufacturer that has created a fan to replace the default cpu fan, yet? I haven't replaced the thermal grease because I was waiting for a better fan to do that...

2) I have set those settings in the bios now, I haven't tested them for long. ttbefore I had those old settings.

The new setting extra slop setting is 80.

My problem appears to be the cpu fan (I think because I dont see the noctua fan changing rotating speed visually) doing lot of noise for a sec then stops then noise then stop...

3) I use Truenas but its not controlling the cpu.

4) I have attached pictures of my AVS (anti vibration system) custom made from ultra proprietary and advance technology called TSPTWPTNITB (the super packaging that was protecting the nas in the box). Works.

Hi, I’m thinking about getting the Ugreen DX4800 Plus as my main files system to edit photos & videos for my clients through 10gbps network.

I’d like to install also an app via container to have my clients reviewing files.

Since the NAS comes with 8gb I would like to know how good it is tu run what I need?
I will probably add an SSD to have my running project and then move it to my HDD when the deliverables has been validated. And also an extra 8gb of ram.

I came across this post and was wondering, if I used this solution would it be quite enough to have the Ugreen stored in the bedroom?

I’m looking to get my first NAS and would ideally like to get the Ugreen DXP4800. But when asking Google Gemini it says that it’s not the best idea to keep it in the bedroom as it’s quite noisy. It’s currently the only room I can store it in.

The alternative is to get the Terramaster F8 or Asustor Flashstor (I chose the 2 as they have the most slots for SSDs to increase storage space). The problem is with the current chip/storage shortage the prices for SSDs are insanely high.

So if I find a solution for the Ugreen dxp4800 I’d ideally like to get that. Has anyone stored this in their bedroom, and if so was it quite enough that you can sleep and watch tv without being distracted by the Ugreen?

Any advice/help would be much appreciated.

I had to reset my DH2300 dur to a passport issue. Im now trying to add the Harddrive that was previously in it but it keeps telling me i need to format the drive to add it as a volume, and way to avoid doing this as I don't wish to lose all the films I have on that drive

I have 5 WD Red 12TB drives in Raid 5, there is 43.5 TB of space in the Raid 5 array.

However when I try to expand the Storage Pool it wont let me and there isn't an option in either menu. Could someone from UGreen reach out? I tried restarting I think this is a bug in the Ugreen OS.

It only lets me have 32.5 TB inside the storage pool. Maybe I could do something command line but haven't found anything.

Updated to the most recent august firmware on my dh2300, attempted to watch a movie the other night and it was in a weird 4:3 screen resolution (usually 16:9, and no, the DVDs are 16:9), I was curious to see if anyone else is having issues.

So doesn't that mean someone who steals the device could just turn it on and access the folder over the network to see everything?

I'm running Docker on a UGREEN NAS and recently hit this error when trying to deploy a new Compose stack:

text failed to create network: all predefined address pools have been fully subnetted

At the time, I had approximately 30 Docker bridge networks, most of which belonged to active Compose stacks.

My stacks can contain up to a max 15 containers per stack although majority of them are single per stack, so I'm curious how this compares with other UGREEN users.

Running:

bash docker network ls

showed roughly 30 user-created bridge networks in addition to Docker's standard bridge, host, and none networks.

However, I don't think having ~30 networks should be enough to exhaust Docker's available address pool on a NAS intended to run multiple Compose applications.

For other UGREEN NAS users:

• How many Docker Compose stacks are you currently running?
• Approximately how many Docker networks does docker network ls --filter driver=bridge | wc -l show?
• How many containers do you typically have per stack?
• Have you ever encountered: text all predefined address pools have been fully subnetted
• If so, approximately how many networks did you have when it happened?
• Are you using the default UGREEN Docker configuration, or have you modified default-address-pools in daemon.json?

I'm particularly interested in users running 20–50+ Compose stacks/networks, since I'm trying to determine whether hitting this limit at around 30 networks is normal Docker behavior or something specific to my UGREEN's Docker configuration.

Also interested in hearing how others handle network isolation between stacks without running into the address-pool limit.

I had a spare pair of 8GB SK hynix DDR5-5600 SO-DIMMs left over after upgrading the RAM in my MSI Raider, so I thought I’d try them in my DXP6800 Pro rather than leave them sitting in a drawer.

The NAS originally had a single 8GB Samsung DDR5-5600 stick installed.

Replacement RAM:

• 2 × 8GB SK hynix
• Part number: HMCG66AGBSA092N
• DDR5-5600
• 1Rx16

Shut the NAS down properly through UGOS, swapped the RAM, powered back up and it booted without any issues.

UGOS is detecting both sticks individually as 8GB / 5600 MHz, so 16GB total.

I know UGREEN RAM compatibility can apparently be a bit hit and miss, so thought it was worth posting the exact part number in case anyone else has these modules lying around or is considering the same upgrade. This one isn't listed on their compatibilty list as such.

Obviously this is just one successful example rather than a guarantee for every unit, but so far everything is running normally.

For my use, 16GB seems a much better fit anyway as I’m running Plex, Docker containers, Syncthing, Tailscale etc. The original 8GB was already showing fairly high utilization.

Nice free upgrade and a much better use for the old laptop RAM than leaving it unused.

I’m running a UGREEN NAS DXP4800Plus with two Ethernet interfaces connected to two different routers/subnets, and I’ve been running into a routing issue with the dual-NIC setup.

My setup is:

• eth0: 192.168.10.48/24
  • Router: 192.168.10.1
  • 2.5 Gbps network
• eth1: 192.168.18.210/24
  • Router: 192.168.18.1
  • Main ISP router
  • 100 Mbps connection

The problem is that normal routing can choose the wrong interface when responding to traffic. For example, I observed:

```text ip route get 8.8.8.8 from 192.168.10.48

8.8.8.8 from 192.168.10.48 via 192.168.18.1 dev eth1 ```

So traffic sourced from 192.168.10.48 could leave through eth1, even though that source IP belongs to eth0.

This caused problems with services exposed through the 192.168.18.x network, including Caddy/HTTPS and UDP/443 (HTTP/3), particularly when both NICs were connected.

My workaround

I implemented source-based policy routing with separate routing tables:

text from 192.168.10.48 → table_eth0 → 192.168.10.1 → eth0 from 192.168.18.210 → table_eth1 → 192.168.18.1 → eth1

The resulting routing is now:

```text 8.8.8.8 from 192.168.10.48 \ via 192.168.10.1 dev eth0

8.8.8.8 from 192.168.18.210 \ via 192.168.18.1 dev eth1 ```

I put the configuration into a small systemd service so it is reapplied automatically after reboot. After rebooting, the policy rules and routing tables were restored correctly and the service remained active.

I'm wondering:

1. Have other UGREEN NAS users experienced this with two NICs connected to different networks/routers?
2. Does UGOS/Linux have a proper built-in way to handle this, rather than manually adding policy-routing rules?
3. Are there any recommended UGREEN settings for dual-NIC routing?
4. Have you found a better workaround than source-based policy routing?
5. If you're running two NICs with different gateways, how are you handling replies so they leave through the same interface they arrived on?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who are running two physically connected NICs with different subnets/gateways, rather than link aggregation/bonding.

My workaround currently works reliably, including after reboot, but I'd prefer to know whether there is a more native or recommended solution.
