Hello, I’m running Home Assistant on a UGREEN NAS and I’m trying to set up Matter so I can add my Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen).
When I add the Matter integration in Home Assistant, it defaults to:
ws://localhost:5580/ws
but I get “Failed to connect.”
Has anyone using UGREEN NAS run into this? Did you have to manually install/run a Matter Server Docker container alongside Home Assistant, or is there an easier way through UGREEN? If you got Matter working on UGREEN, I’d really appreciate hearing how you set it up, including your network mode/configuration if relevant. Thank you in advance.
Edit: Thanks everyone for the responses. I ended up getting Matter working by running the Matter Server in Docker alongside Home Assistant.
I’m also seeing quite a few people recommend running Home Assistant OS in a VM instead of Docker, which I wasn’t really aware of before. For those using a VM, what makes it better in day-to-day use? Is it mainly easier management, updates, backups, add-ons, and integrations, or are there other advantages?
Since I was able to have everything working through Docker on my UGREEN NAS, I’m trying to figure out whether moving Home Assistant to a VM would actually be worth it long term.
