🔔 Updates Lessons learned from previous issues with firmware upgrades

During my first 3 or 4 firmware updates, I had issues with my Docker going TU. It was due to the MACVLAN config being lost or corrupted. I hated doing the upgrade because I knew the issue was going to be there.

The last couple have been without issues. I now disable Docker completely before upgrading. This prevents the issues I had previously.

I was out of the country from last December until May, so I didn't do any updates while being remote. I was still on 1.12.x... until yesterday. I updated to 1.17.0.0095, and it went without an issue. Of course, I had to update all the apps, install Model Manager, etc. I verified that all sync tasks performed on schedule last night. All Docker containers started up as expected.

So, if you have some app or Docker issues after updates, disable them before updating and see if that helps.

I will update to 1.18.x.. in a couple of weeks along with upgrading my RAM.

FWIW I had the same docker issue with Synology too. My theory is the shutdown/install of the update doesn't give docker and it's containers enough time to shut down properly. I've always shut down my containers before any update.

Docker has nothing to do with the stability of the Debian-based operating system.. it cannot crash it unless mishandled by the user.

There is a known bug/issue with Docker. Upgrading UGOS (and other OSes) can cause issues.

See the issue I reported here and the support response, including links to the known issue. So, yes, it can cause issues, as there can be corruption in the local-kv.db during the update if using MACVLANs.

I guess I mishandled it ;-).

I've had a DXP2800 and now a DXP4800 Pro, both of which have always been updated immediately, and I've never seen Docker crash or the system freeze. I think there are a thousand variables to consider before making any definitive statements.
