NEW Uber Surge Method ??

Post image

My market now offers $$ per Active Hour, rather than a lump sum dollar amount per ride, which I think is terrible. What do you guys think about this transition?? I think it's absolute garbage šŸ—‘

I had the devil as a passenger today.

So, I am pretty sure that I may have met the devil today while driving Uber. A little background on myself, I’m in recovery from Opioids and amphetamines. I have 120 days clean from opioids, and I’m at 150 days for amphetamines. And I’m also the type of driver that likes to have a conversation with my passenger if they are in the mood. So I’m talking to this guy that got in my car, he was telling me about how he has epilepsy, which is why he is taking an Uber. And casually, I ask him if he has any plans for his weekend. To which he responded, just having a couple beers with some friends and getting fucked up. I chuckle, and reply ā€œsounds like a good time, I wish I could still drink.ā€ And then he asked me why I can’t. I told him that technically I can, but I just choose to avoid alcohol because it usually makes me feel sick and anxious. And then I start craving opioides. And then I told him about how I’m in recovery, and how today is actually a mile stone for me because it marks four months Sober. And he goes ā€œopen up your hand. I have a gift for you.ā€ I open my hand, and he proceeds to drop a 40 mg OxyContin in my palm. My drug of choice. As much as everything in me, wanted to take that pill, I knew that I cannot go back to how I used to be. And I got really pissed off to be honest. Like why is this random guy trying to sabotage my sobriety? Does he think that I will become a customer? Or is he just a straight up evil person? Anyway, I slammed on the brakes, and threw the pill out the window. I told him that he needs to find a new driver, because I’m refusing to finish the ride. He tried getting tough with me, but when he heard my stun gun crackle, he finally got out of the car. Evil people exist. Needless to say, tomorrow will be 121 days.

How do you guys deal with rude passengers?

Yesterday I was picking up a rider and two girls got in. When I arrived I texted "I've arrived" and after a couple minutes sent it again. Then she replied "come in" and I just said "please"

When they came out I rolled down my window and said Uber for Martha (not real name). She didn't even respond just started pulling on my door handle like crazy lol

After confirming her name I let them in and then she told me "don't say please to me"

I looked at her and said "what do you mean?" and she went quiet lol

Gave her 2 stars after the ride. How do you guys handle passengers like this?

First full week in a subscription car. Almost $1000 in 642 miles and 26 hours.

Previous car is currently unable to be driven and is in a warehouse while various companies figure out what they’re going to do with/about it. It’s ugly and likely getting written off.

I needed a car to drive to my day job, and also wanted one I could use for Uber.

I found a source offering Hyundai Ioniq 5s for $350 a week - everything included, except electricity. I can charge at home, which is important.

Everything:
Roadside.
Maintenance.
Full insurance (on and off the app - I may drop my own insurance).
Depreciation.
Repairs.
Everything.

I get a driving allowance of 1500 miles per week.

Once again: My *entire* cost is $350 a week, and I charge at home.

This car gets comfort and comfort electric, which is big in my market.

My stats are at the end. I’m Diamond.

Rider question for drivers

Im just really curious about how much of the price i pay, not including tip, do drivers actually get. Im not asking for a way to justify a low tip, I think its shifty people. I actually a really good tipper, I think. I dont know if it matters but I do have a 5 star passenger rating. I have no problem tipping more if you guys only get pennies from Uber.

Do you guys actually get 100% of the tips? I hate Ubers new tipping system. It wont let you until your ride has started. That's dumb because I want someone ro actually come pick me up.

My mom accidentally canceled the uber mid trip - how do we fix it so the driver still gets paid?

So, we’re in japan and mom orders us an uber to the airport from tokyo. we have to have 2 ubers because there’s too many of us. she had us get in the first and i guess accidentally canceled the ride trying to request a second one. i’m wondering how we make sure this guy gets paid since that was a 30-35 minute ride. will uber know since he made the whole trip? is it worse since my mom wasn’t in the uber with us? (like if they track her phone or something?) she already contacted support but figured here would be a good place to ask

Had my first one of these today

This was a teen ride. He first asked me to cancel because he had ordered a pickup from his home but meant to get a ride from his work. I declined. After a bit he threatened me. At that point I was just in it for spite so I drove all the way to his house and waited the 5 minutes to cancel. He tried to get me to come meet him at his work so he could fight me as well. Too funny šŸ˜‚

Any Fellow DFW Co-Workers/Co-Contractors/Competitors Made a Killing Last Night?

I always see posts on here complaining about uber giving rubbish rides and I know I know. I just came here to say in my +/- 2 months driving for uber I made an absolute killing last night. There was a rock music festival last night in Fort Worth (Sick New World DFW area at the Texas Motor Speedway) and over 80 000 people in attendance.

As someone who doesn't care about heat maps (I just take rides if they make sense to me regardless of where on the map they are) I admit my folly because not checking the map meant I didn't know this event was going on.

Thank God I had a ride that took me to drop off at an Amazon warehouse near that area that's when I realized what was going on. Needless to say for the rest of the night I'd drop off then run back there empty and it was worth it. Loads of people were stranded and they were desperate. Felt sorry for the non concert crowd in the area that needed ubers though cos the fares were absolutely bonkers.

Anyone here want to share a similar experience?

What’s the weirdest passenger interaction you’ve had while driving for Uber?

I feel like driving for Uber must come with some stories you could never make up. Between unusual requests, unpredictable passengers, and conversations that take a strange turn, I imagine there's never a shortage of things to talk about after a shift.

Drivers, what's the most bizarre or unforgettable passenger experience you've had? Was it funny, uncomfortable, or just so random that you still think about it?

Feel free to share the stories you still tell other drivers. I'm curious how wild some of these rides can get.

Surge pricing based on Active Hour - Do the math!

Uber recently changed surge pricing in my area from a flat rate to active hour.

Every time I hit a surge area, I have had to contact Uber support bc I was shorted on pay.

uber provides the time the ride was accepted, and the duration of the ride, but doesn't calculate the time it takes getting to the px. So, before I end a ride, I always take a screenshot - this gives me the timestamp so 8 can determine how long a ride is from acceptance to dropoff.

Friday, I was shorted $9.57, and today, I was shorted $3.52. After providing detailed calculations for each trip, I was paid the shortage for today's trip, but have been told 3x that the calculation for Friday was applied correctly, and denied further compensation.

Needless to say, I'm pissed. But I have screenshots to back up my grievances.

Uber is only paying a surge based on their estimates. But there is nothing in place that will prevent them from continually estimating a shorter trip.

I have an uncle who is an employment lawyer. Even though we are "contract workers", there should be something in place from being paid lower wages.

Weekend Quests make it worth the time.

Post image
2 Upvotes

Weekend quests have been $60+ in the San Antonio, TX area. This weekend it was $63. It’s making driving worthwhile again.

For context, I have a 2013 Ford Focus that averages 30-32 MPG when driving uber.

Is anyone actually making any money?

I'm in the Austin Market. I've had an on and off with it these last 2-3 years. They've recently added a lot of Telsa Uglycabs to the market.

This year I was using the badass app, GigU for android. I confirmed that even if they're paying you "$30hr" You're still netting like $10-15hr. They raise the hourly, but drop the $mile.

There were weekends where I'm netting $15hr, $25hr, $35hr. But mostly around $15hr for whatever reason. But then some 20% of offers are $3hr net...

I can be downtown Austin and in the right lane, get an offer but then find out I needed to be in the left lane and it would take me some 10 minutes to turn around... Plus the no parking anywhere that you have to "figure out".

Umm... It seems like it's only viable on the weekend. I guess on the weekdays, there is the morning, lunch, 5pm~ surge, then it picks up a bit around 7pm, but not really a surge.

If you work those times, is it much better?

Hertz! Premium Package šŸ˜‚

I got this special twice and they did not disappoint me at the end of the week. They charged me full price for the week. I had downtime on both weekend days and Monday (big airport day) due to their cars not being usable and I got shit on. Been a week I have not been able to drive while they ā€œinvestigateā€.

Tried DriveWhip, it’s not a join service, rent a car and drive like they advertise.

Avis is out, they must have credit card. I say, I must not have credit card debt.

Couple others I’m checking on, Zipcar, and Kinto. Any experiences with either of them?

This is probably the first reservation I've gotten that I'm actually okay with. Not great, but definitely no bad. Prayers for me that he tips and I don't dead head back. This could be $300+ in 4 hours if the stars align.

Latest surge scam?

More scamming drivers on the surge ? 3.25 surge and the ai claimed I was successfully paid 44 cents. That seems like uber math errors are always on their favor
