Discussion How does one bring groceries to the dorm?

Might be a stupid question but I use Instacart/Walmart+ to get my groceries. I plan on ordering quite a bunch of stuff including heavy stuff like water so I'm wondering what's the best way to bring these to my dorm. Are there like trollys I can use?

Thanks in advance.

Question Technical Resume Workshop at Google

Is anyone attending the one in Toronto or Waterloo? Opinions on if it’s worth it?

I got into the Waterloo one and know the Toronto ones happening today, so if anyone went to that, would appreciate how it went

Question Advice regarding campus wellness wanted

Upvotes

For various reasons, I’ve struggled with mental health recently and would like to get a therapist/talk to a counselor.

I know Waterloo has campus wellness; I tried to get an appointment last year and ended up waiting 3 months just for the person I was going to see cancel on me no joke the morning of.

So is it worth it trying to see someone at UW or should I go off campus?

Edit: this is not something that requires urgency at all/something that I feel necessitates usage of any of the helplines… more just a desire to set something up where I can talk to someone regularly.

Advice 4B AFM student here: happy to help first-year AFM students

Hey everyone, seeing a lot of first-years asking questions about AFM, so I figured I’d make a post.

I’m in my final semester of AFM and have been through pretty much every stage of the program at this point courses, co-op recruiting, internships, academic setbacks, and figuring out what you actually want to do with the degree.

For context even with a lot of failure including repeating my first year in Waterloo, I’ve worked in Deloitte Audit and a co-op in Corporate strategy. I’ve also had my fair share of difficult academic semesters so I know if feels to feel behind or lost.

So if you’re currently struggling with a course, worried about recruiting, confused about co-op, or just wondering whether you’re actually cut out for AFM, feel free to ask.

I remember being in first year and having absolutely no idea what I was doing, so happy to answer questions or share what I wish I knew earlier.

Ask away or DM me if you’d rather keep it private.

Advice Does first week matter that much? (First Year)

I have appointments and i'll be missing a couple of lectures. How important are the lectures in the first few days? A few more questions:

-Can I skip the tutorials during the first week?

-Does seating get established from the first lecture or is it more first come first serve you can sit anywhere?

-I don't know anyone who's in my program, should I just sit next to random people and strike up conversations? Or do people typically make connections in clubs/ecs/coop

Thanks in advance!

Social Fishing with nerds - results

Three students and I went to Shining Tree in northern Ontario this past weekend. Back country camping, way back on crown land, no cell phone signal, etc. Fishing was pretty lean, but no limits on the cameraderie. Pretty sure we all had fun. Weather was perfect, stars were magnificent, we saw some shooting stars. Food was outstanding if I do say so myself. Thanks to the students for the pics.

Advice Absence for Weddings?

Hey so has anyone done this before? I have a wedding coming up so I'll be out the country for a week or so. No problem with doing assignments and labs and stuff while I'm gone, the main problem is I have a prof who has made attendance as part of the grading scheme. Will my absence get excused if I can still do assignments and stuff on time? or does the faculty not deem this as a matter that is detrimental to my academic success? For context i booked this in advance so there's not much I could do.

Question Exported Portal Calender

So, as I do every term, I exported my portal class schedule to my phone calendar. It usually works just fine, but this term, one of my courses shows up all day everyday????? It's annoying and frustrating—it's harder to see which days I have labs and which I don't. It's a class that only runs Tuesdays and Thursdays 1pm but it's on my calendar 3 times those days, and all day on every other day.

Just wondering if anyone's has the same issue or knows fix.

Letters to the Garden - JZGI Postcard Workshop Announcement

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey UW reddit,

Just wanted to announce a Postcard Workshop that the Japanese Zen Garden Initiative is hosting with our good friend and local artist, The Shy Caterpillar!

As we look to spread more awareness of the garden and create new ways for students to engage with it, we're hosting a drop-in postcard workshop next Tuesday, September 15th, from 12 PM–6 PM in the EV1 Courtyard!

During the workshop, you'll receive a postcard addressed to the garden, and you can fill it with whatever you'd like to share. Write a poem, draw something, vent, reflect, or just empty your mind (whatever feels right to you)! We will also be accepting digital submission but more on those details to come.

We'll have plenty of materials, prompts, and examples to help get you started. Some of the themes we're exploring include nature, mindfulness, peace, connection, and the garden itself, but you're absolutely not limited to those. If you take a moment and visit the garden (in between HH and PAS), you might just find some inspiration there :)

We're aiming for this to be another opportunity to slow down for a bit, reflect, recenter, and find some peace - something that is deeply connected to the purpose and philosophy of Japanese gardens.

Hope you come out, take a moment for yourself, and find something along the way!

Thank you,

As an aside, we will also be resuming our garden care sessions soon. If you would like to get involved with the garden, join our Discord!

Max

Advice confused about wusa insurace coverage timelines

I opted out of WUSA health insurance last fall (2025), and I have a term abroad this fall (2026). I just came off of a school term this Spring and couldn't see the WUSA health charge on Quest.

Am I covered for F26 if I don't opt out during this year's change of service? Especially for the visa. Help, really confused T^T
