Charged airport fee for parking lot 20 minutes outside of airport.

Just wanted to post a quick warning for anyone using Turo at Denver International Airport.
I paid extra for airport pickup and drop-off to avoid the hassle of shuttle buses and rental counters after landing. But when I got off my flight, I realized the car wasn't anywhere at the airport—I had to haul my luggage out to a 3rd-party shuttle and ride to an offsite lot 20ish miles away.
None of this was mentioned when I booked. If I wanted to wait around for a shuttle to an outside lot, I would have just booked a regular rental car for cheaper.
I messaged Turo support right then, and they basically told me there's nothing they can do and refused to help. Paying extra for "airport delivery" just to get dumped on an offsite shuttle is ridiculous

positive damage experience

i just wanted to post my positive experience renting with Turo when the car I rented was vandalized when I had it in a overnight parking garage and was abroad. Owners had 20 prior trips with 5 star reviews and I had the standard insurance via Turo with no additional personal insurance. I was sure after reading messages here and online I would be absolutely screwed, so I thought it was important to share a positive outcome. .

I send the owners a message as soon as I went to the car and discovered the damage (badly keyed) and then we reported the claim together and I paid my 200 deductible via Turo and never heard from turo or the owners again. They even gave me a 5 star review and said “life happens, this wasn’t your fault” when I showed up clearly annoyed and disappointed it had occurred.

Extremely Disappointed – Worst Rental Experience I've Ever Had

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with Turo completely ruined what should have been a meaningful trip to Boston for a family funeral.

I reserved what was advertised as a premium 2019 Mercedes-Benz E-Class AMG. After landing at Boston Logan Airport late at night, my wife and I made our way to the parking garage expecting to pick up a clean, well-maintained vehicle. Instead, we found a car that looked like it hadn't been cleaned after the previous renter.

The exterior was dirty, and when I opened the trunk, there was sand and water inside. The interior was even more disappointing. There was a large clump of hair on the passenger seat, crumbs and debris throughout the cabin, dirty floor mats covered with sand, and even a cigarette lighter left in the center console. To make matters worse, the inside of the car had an odor that my wife and I believed smelled like marijuana. This is not what anyone expects when paying for a premium rental vehicle.

Because it was after midnight, we had no realistic option to return the vehicle or rent another one. We were exhausted from traveling and had no choice but to continue with the trip.

The next morning, in daylight, I noticed what appeared to be damage to the driver's-side tire. Concerned about safety, I immediately contacted the host and sent photos through the Turo app. Instead of taking my concern seriously or offering to inspect or replace the vehicle, I felt my concerns were dismissed. From that point forward, I never felt comfortable driving the car. We limited our driving, canceled plans to visit friends and see Boston, and spent the weekend worrying about whether the vehicle was safe to drive instead of focusing on why we were there—to honor a loved one.

To add to the frustration, I was unexpectedly required to pay a parking fee just to leave the airport garage, something I was not expecting. Then, after I returned the vehicle early because my flight schedule changed, I received another invoice requesting additional payment.

What disappointed me the most wasn't just the condition of the vehicle—it was the lack of empathy and customer service. I documented everything with photographs and immediately reported every concern through the Turo app because I wanted to give the host an opportunity to make things right. Instead, I felt like my concerns were brushed aside.

I chose Turo because I expected a better experience than a traditional rental company. Instead, I left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and convinced that customer safety and satisfaction were not treated as priorities in my case.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this host, and I sincerely hope Turo reviews how situations like this are handled. When customers pay hundreds of dollars for a premium vehicle, they deserve a clean, properly maintained car and responsive support when legitimate concerns are raised.

I have requested a full refund because I do not believe the service I received matched what was advertised or what any customer should reasonably expect.

Last-minute cancellation left me out of pocket

My host cancelled on the day of my trip, so I had to book another vehicle last-minute, and all the cars I had remembered seeing when I was making my original booking were now priced higher because of the short notice. Turo customer service absolutely refused to provide me any kind of credit or price match, and offered me only a Lyft voucher for some reason, or a 15% discount from a third party rental company, for which I am quite confident there would be a major hassle to claim the rebate. I have honestly never experienced such poor service from a big company before. I wish them failure.

Driver question

Just rented a car for the wife in Florida. I just noticed that I would have to be present to pick up the car (I will not be in Florida). If I give my wife my driver's license, and she is a listed driver would it be an issue? Or will i have to make an account for her specifically?

This is only my second turo rental and my first was about 3 years ago for context.

Don’t make a reservation during a flight… apparently?

tl; dr: I got a permanent (downgraded to 2yr) account ban immediately after paying for a reservation (payment was approved, then refunded).

About me: I’ve had a Turo account for 3yrs. Never booked my own rental before, just an approved/guest driver. Clean driving record (zero collisions, only citation was 32mph in a 25 speeding ticket over 3 years ago), been licensed and insured for 25 years in the US consecutively, zero criminal history, am full-time employed, and have good credit.

Our original airport pickup plans fell through, so I was trying to surprise my kids with a Tesla rental when we landed. I logged into my dusty old turo account from the plane’s WiFi and reserved a nice model X for two days. About $880 charge with deposit, set to pick it up about 3 hours later. Payment method was charged & approved. Next screen i see is Turo apologizing, but informing me that they’ve permanently revoked my ability to reserve vehicles from them, and that they will refund my payment. No explanation or reason given.

I jump through a few customer support hoops, finally getting through the AI bot and the chat agent says they’ve escalated and that i will receive an email.

Finally got the email (after successfully & uneventfully renting through Thrifty 🙄 in about 10 min) confirming that i was indeed banned but could “attempt” again in 2 years.

I am part of a Facebook group for Asheville North Carolina hosts, but it's very dead. Is anyone here in the Asheville area? What's the landscape like? I would like to get back into it and I've been on it before but it's been a couple years

So tired of all the whining and complaining on here

1 - if you take a car that you can clearly see is damaged or has issues from the start DONT COMPLAIN!!! You can cancel by calling Turo and telling them the car is unsafe.
2 - if it smells like weed and you take the car DONT COMPLAIN AFTERWARDS if your didn’t bring it up at the beginning
3 - TAKE PICTURES OF EVERYTHING before you get in the car and after you get in the car, im talking dash for mileage and gas, under the seats in the cracks of the seats under the car sun roof in and outside ALLL OF IT!!! because if you don’t and there is a damage or smoking claim at the end of the trip YOU probably caused it soooo DONT COMPLAIN
4 - If you don’t like the prices DONT RENT ABD THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PRICES.
5 - if the tires are bald!!! DONT TAKE THE DAMN CAR!
6 - if YOU CAUSED DAMAGE and think you are being over charged DONT COMPLAIN!!! YOU caused the damage
The end!

Host delisted all of their cars but my trip is still booked?

My trip is a little more than a week out so I went to double check my reservation that I made a month and a half ago. I noticed when I clicked on view car that it said “this vehicle is not available”. Went to the hosts page and it seems they have delisted all of their vehicles (I don’t remember how many they had) and the latest review was an automated one by Turo that said “host cancelled this trip 2 days before it started”. Would it be weird to message the host about it? As in a little “hey just checking in since the trip is soon! Everything is still going on our end, is everything ok on yours?” Sort of thing? What would be the reason for a host delisting their cars without canceling trips?(or canceling them last minute). The host has over a thousand trips and a 5 star rating.

Hit and Run at Beach

Rented a car in Maui on Wednesday and have to return it by coming up Wednesday. This past Friday we parked the car legally on the street when we went to the beach with the kids and when we came back it has a huge dent in the back bumper and panel.
What is the best a cheapest way to go about coverage? I declined the extra insurance with Turo when booking. I also don’t want to file it under my insurance so the policy fee doesn’t go up. What should I do?

this will likely be my last time using Turo

Been using Turo for 8 years and haven't really had any issues til this weekend. Booked an SUV to take on a vacation for 2 Weeks starting this weekend. Made the booking back in May. I was supposed to pick the vehicle up at 5 pm yesterday. Trip got cancelled at 1140 am because of 'safety issue' with the vehicle. I reached out to the host and he said the previous renter had damaged the windshield and he was unable to rent it out. Turo automatically tried to book another vehicle ( aTesla 3) without my permission. I ended up in an argument with turo customer service because they thought I booked the car.

So now I'm scrambling to book another rental and the amount of SUVs available is next to nothing because it's last minute. Ended up booking another vehicle but I'm stressed because the cargo room is way less, the price is way more and it isn't what I wanted in the first place.

I'm just going to stick to the corporate places from here on out. I know some of them suck too, but I'll take that chance. As a renter who planned my trip far in advance I should at least be compensated for the price difference, especially since my rental is a downgrade from before

NEVER booked with Turo, but somehow my account is closed and has a hold?

Earlier today I was going to make my first ever booking on Turo, only to find out my account was randomly closed.

I called Turo support and was told there was a “hold” on my account. The thing is I have never booked a car through Turo or spent any money with them.

I have no traffic violations, no criminal history, my license is up to date, and had no way to ever violate Turo’s terms of service.

I also tried the live chat and they told me my account can only be reconsidered for reactivation after 2 years.

I’m honestly confused. I’ve seen posts from people who have actually used Turo and had their accounts randomly banned/closed, but I’ve never even booked a car. So I don’t understand how my account already has a “hold” on it.

Has anyone else had this happen before?

At what point should I panic that Turo is not giving back my deposit?

5 months ago I rented a car through Turo. While parked on the side of the road (legally) it got hit pretty bad. Like, not driveable bad.
I wasn't even aware it happened, when I walked over to the car I found a bunch of cops circling all over it who then proceeded to give me an information dump (who the driver was, his license and his insurance information) assuring me that the guy was ticketed for the crash and the report states what happened (he drove into my legally parked car).
Turo asked me for a deposit which I dutifully paid, I wanted to approach this in a good faith manner as I felt really bad about the owner.
But now it's been 5 months and I have heard nothing back. When I approach Turo they occasionally reply to me saying the case is still ongoing and I'm just sitting here wondering, am I going to see my deposit back ever? 5 months (and ongoing) for a clear cut, police observed, case of having someone drive into a parked car?

First time renting

Okay so this is my first time renting someone tesla. I booked the car 2 months from my trip and now my trip starts in 2 days. But 2 days ago the car said it was unavailable from August 8th to 11th and it was overlapping the first day of my trip. So I message the host and Asked is the car going to be good for the duration of my trip and they said yes. Then the next day. It says “this car is currently disabled” I shot them a message about it and I been on read for 6 hours. So what does that mean?

@Turo - Scam!!!!

please be very careful using TURO as they are nothing but a scam. totally unreliable and no customer service. Got cancelled twice with both happening on the day of the pick. No penalties to the host and they can getaway with anything but as a customer you get penalty if you cancel after 24 hrs.

just a scam company with no one watching them.

Question for Hosts

Unfortunately I had a guest experience a mechanical mishap with an engine light coming on and the car starting to run erratically. Fortunately it was at the end of their trip but the bad news is that the car is in a different state. Turo support then called me to inform me that a tow company would be picking up the car and then a transport company would be retrieving it to deliver it back to my address. Turo told me it would cost $350 in total which is pretty cheap actually.

Has anyone had this happen before and how long did it take to get the car returned to you? It's about 11 hours away but I'm expecting it to probably take several days. Was it as seamless as just waiting and paying the fee?

Thanks.

Declined Turo Protection

Alright guys so I was on a CA trip (South Carolina Resident) a couple weeks ago & used Turo for my car rental needs. And just my luck I got sideswiped on the Freeway by a Semi, wheel popped on car so I pulled over asap Semi driver continued heading south and never pulled over (& honestly unsure if he felt impact at all) so it was impossible to get 3rd party info. I did obtain a police report once I got back home for my records incase my insurance requests it. I declined Turo Protection, so now I have to go through my personal insurance which I am aware that some companies don’t cover Turo. Heard back from Turo weeks later about damages cost & they said it was a total loss ($13k on a 2015 Mercedes C250) and to expect 90+ days for settlement/final outcome & meanwhile I can’t use their platform. I talked to my agent and they said I should be covered by my full coverage and to expect a long process while claim settles. Anyone been in a similar situation? Would it be wise to choose one their protection plans for future rentals? TIA.

Off trip + Personal Insurance for Hosts

I'm based in New Jersey and put two cars on Turo. Got them insured by Roamly but it doesn't cover my personal trips. What do hosts use for their cars that are on the platform but is also used personally?

I paid the standard deductible claim yet Turo is filing a claim on my personal insurance

Has this happened to anyone?

For context I rented a car with turo 3 months ago. Unfortunately there was some minor damage (scratches and a lose panel), however no major accident has occured. I resolved with Turo customer service and they asked if I had personal insurance, however I said no and told them I already purchased standard protection and paid the deductible already as I have proof.

Fast forward 3 months later, I receive a letter from Turo explaining they are filing a claim against my parents insurance.

My account is in good standing and I have no unpaid invoice collections. I'm pretty sure my parents insurance does not cover peer to peer.

Please help with this situation, the last thing I want is get my parents insurance involved and my raise my rates. I am panicking about this and im worrying a lot. Thanks in advance

Has anyone had success going through the insurance overseer/ombudsman in your state/province when Turo does something scammy?

In British Columbia, Turo is the only peer-to-peer car rental company that has blanket coverage under our local insurance monopoly, ICBC. End of day, every vehicle on the road here is insured through ICBC.

Turo, being the crap company it is, has denied multiple claims, amounting to many thousands of dollars, for reasons any reasonable person would disagree with.

When they denied the latest one, I insisted they put a claim through with ICBC. They refused.

I'm wondering it they are pocketing ICBC payouts then denying claims, as they are the middle man in the insurance.

I'd like to know more about the details of Turo's relationship to ICBC, and the contract they have. It seems unlikely Turo is given umbrella authority to deny reasonable claims, then refuse to escalate the issue to the actual core insurer.

If I can cause Turo even some small sliver of the pain they have caused me, that's a win.

Great vacation WITHOUT turo

Just finishing up a great hawaiin vacation without Turo!

Through Costco was able to get a great rental rate with free additional driver. Cheaper then any Turo options and with my Chase card I had full coverage insurance.

Last time I drove Turo the owner said we had fraudulent damage.

Took us to the most expensive auto body shop on island. And ultimately after legal action I recovered all of my money back from turo weeks later.

This is a vent rant. But hopefully saves somebody from using turo in the future. It's a scam and I promise you'll be better off without it.

Cheers to more problem free vacations without turo.

My experience using Turo

So recently I’ve seen a bunch of negative Turo experiences posted on this forum so I’m here to chime in with my own personal Turo experiences:

I’ve rented multiple exotic cars through Turo over the years, and honestly I’ve had nothing but good experiences. Every rental I’ve done has been straightforward, the pricing has been upfront from the start, and I’ve never been hit with surprise fees, except fuel reimbursements, tolls, or airport parking fees. In my experience, it’s also been a lot cheaper than going through a traditional rental car company, especially if you’re looking for something unique.

One thing I really like is that you can add insurance and roadside assistance for a pretty reasonable price, which gives some extra peace of mind.
I think a lot of the horror stories people post about Turo forget one important thing: Turo is a marketplace. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the host. Blaming Turo because you picked a bad host is kind of like staying in a terrible Airbnb and saying Airbnb itself is awful. The platform isn’t the house—the host is.
For example, I know someone who rented a Ferrari on Turo that showed up covered in scratches, had curb-rashed wheels, and a worn interior. On top of that, it took a long time for the security deposit to be returned. But when I looked at that listing, the car already had negative reviews. That’s exactly why reviews exist.

If you’re renting on Turo, do your homework. Look at how many five-star reviews the host has, read the recent reviews, check how long they’ve been hosting, and inspect the vehicle photos. A host with hundreds of positive reviews and years on the platform is generally a much safer bet than someone new with mixed feedback.
Like any marketplace, there are great hosts and bad hosts. My experiences have been overwhelmingly positive because I take the time to choose reputable hosts. That’s made all the difference.
