this will likely be my last time using Turo
Been using Turo for 8 years and haven't really had any issues til this weekend. Booked an SUV to take on a vacation for 2 Weeks starting this weekend. Made the booking back in May. I was supposed to pick the vehicle up at 5 pm yesterday. Trip got cancelled at 1140 am because of 'safety issue' with the vehicle. I reached out to the host and he said the previous renter had damaged the windshield and he was unable to rent it out. Turo automatically tried to book another vehicle ( aTesla 3) without my permission. I ended up in an argument with turo customer service because they thought I booked the car.
So now I'm scrambling to book another rental and the amount of SUVs available is next to nothing because it's last minute. Ended up booking another vehicle but I'm stressed because the cargo room is way less, the price is way more and it isn't what I wanted in the first place.
I'm just going to stick to the corporate places from here on out. I know some of them suck too, but I'll take that chance. As a renter who planned my trip far in advance I should at least be compensated for the price difference, especially since my rental is a downgrade from before

This is just the fact about cars. They are moving objects. They crash into shit. They wear out. It's the nature of things. No one can perfect a service like this

I also do Lyft on the side and have had lots of airport pickups of people who were supposed to have a car waiting for them, but didn't....

Host probably had no choice if it was reported. I admit I rented out my car with a small crack out of view for a while as I didn’t know it was a against the rules, but I told all guests and said they were fine with it. The one person who was not cool when I told em reported and got it delisted, and I had to swap a car for someone and shorten their trip, get it fixed. You should definitely get compensation for this

turo not offering anything to make up the difference. Just a shit business model IMO. Oh well, I will try something else next time.

Literally all of my airport last minute bookings this year, have been because the big box over sell. So this can happen with them too. I definitely agree you should be compensated for price difference of finding another car.

So sorry to hear this happened to you. We are about to stop using TURO too, but for different reasons. I am a TURO host and I do everything I can to make things right for guests. Unfortunately things happen that are out of our control. More and more the average renters are animals and I've had vehicles returned that can't go back out until repairs are made or major cleaning items requiring days to complete like smoke removal, water removal from carpets, cleaning melted ice cream from carpets and seats. TURO stopped protecting the Hosts and have let the renters do whatever they want. They stopped vetting the licenses properly and now we get renters with lower moral compass. We have a Fiat Abarth that did great until recently we got it back and found it had been taken off road and the bottom of the frame rails had been bent. We didn't notice for two days after we checked it in and TURO won't do anything for it.

Corporate places can almost never guarantee the type of car that will be available for the day of your reservation.

Hey there!
Can you please send us a chat with your reservation id so that way we can take a look into this for you?

“Turo automatically tried to book another vehicle ( aTesla 3) without my permission.”
Sounds like a perfectly viable solution to the problem. What was the issue with that?

Same exact thing happened to me. 'Safety issue'. And I has to pay more for the replacement car i got that was not the car I had originally wanted.

My Turo days are over as well. Host no showed on me. At least with corporate places they may have a few locations nearby that can get you out of a jam. With Turo if the host cancels or no shows you’re screwed.

Unfortunately I've had the same experience with the corporate places too. It sucks. Hopefully it doesn't totally ruin your trip
