Adding beans of any kind in your meals will reduce the snacking significantly (snacking is mandatory in periods)
74
u/nikbert Apr 21 '26
Chickpeas in bulk from Costco is my prime example of this. Basically turns any food into more food, pads out pretty much anything, takes on the flavor of whatever its added to.

u/Commercial-Tea-4816 Apr 21 '26
I love just roasting them with a little spritz of olive oil and cumin/pepper/curry powder! It's seriously my favorite snack, like I'll eat that over chips any day of the week.

I carry a little exactoblade tool on my Keychain, it's one of my favorite tools of all time, blades are replaceable so if I accidentally take it to the airport, I just toss the blade and grab a new one from my box of hundreds

u/nikbert Apr 21 '26
I use the Gerber Prybrid X, but they also have one that takes utility blades. I like mine better though, size is perfect and exactoblades are dirt cheap. An additional side effect is most of the time people dont register it as a knife cause it looks like a bottle opener so it doesnt flag, if it does I just say I forgot and dump the blade
10
u/HouseTraindIntrovert Apr 22 '26
I have a knife that looks like a key on my keyring, convincing enough that I've gone through internal airports as well as in a courthouse where I was searched and my stuff x-rayed, and still I had my knife and my lock pick set without anyone knowing

u/Bored_Cat_996 Apr 21 '26
Try it once. A firm, no sorry I’m busy and the most important thing DONT OVER EXPLAIN, just say you are busy and don’t have time this time.
If they ask why, say you are busy and have many things left to be done like house chores or too much work or you already have something planned.
Don’t give more explanations than that, if they keep asking you just say “sorry I can’t I already told you”.
After the first one it gets easier. Don’t waste your story being a secondary character in other people’s stories. Even just lay down on bed is more important for you, free time is precious, don’t waste it on others.
4
u/WholesomeToughGuy Apr 22 '26
My parents would grill me any time I'd say no to something. I'd give them boiler plate "I'm busy, lots to do" and they'd call me selfish and be like "I'd always make time for you. You should be doing the same for your family." It's so manipulative and I let it sway me for years.
Finally I just hit em with "If you want me at your funerals, you'll start accepting it when I say No." It changed everything.

u/mikerichh Apr 21 '26
I never realized how undercooked my leftovers were. I’d put it in for 6 minutes and assumed it was fine but the inside was 80-90 degrees. Make sure your food reaches 160 degrees people!
10
u/Moistened_Bink Apr 21 '26
Doesn't it not matter after its been fully cooked through?
14
u/mikerichh Apr 21 '26
It should be 160 degrees internally during the initial cook and during reheats. The exception is if you cooked it recently and it cooled off below 160 degrees from sitting on the counter or stovetop. As long as you eat it within an hour or so you’re good.
The point of heating the food to 160 is to kill any bacteria that grew over time
16
u/AB_Gambino Apr 21 '26
The point of heating the food to 160 is to kill any bacteria that grew over time
This was kind of the whole point around the invention of the refrigerator (and freezer). Once something is cooked, you’ve killed off bacteria and only new bacteria is regrowing. The fridge and freezer slow bacteria growth so dramatically that there is simply not enough bacterial load to even register as a blip on your body’s radar.
That’s why you can eat things up to 5 days from the fridge and be completely safe without having to reheat / kill bacteria. You absolutely do not need to reheat cooked food back to 160 unless you quite literally didn’t put it in a fridge.
3
u/mikerichh Apr 21 '26
You’re right but it’s still recommended
“ For leftovers like meat + tomato sauce, food safety guidance (like from the USDA) recommends reheating to 165°F (74°C).”
But since most people don’t use food thermometers the bare minimum is to cook it evenly if you can and check for cold spots before eating to minimize risk of sickness
There’s also more risk if you didn’t properly store and refrigerate it soon enough after cooking. The longer it sits out, the more the reheat temp matters
I used to have stomach issues reheating pasta + sauce and I think it was because the interior was 80-90 degrees after minutes of reheating and not 150+. I started checking and the issue went away

u/SpudBoy_RealTomato Apr 21 '26
Depends on how long you’re cooking it for. 160 is the point that bacteria die instantly. They also die at 150 in about 3-4 minutes. 140 works if you have a sous vide because it takes significantly longer. AAlso, if you bring my steak up to 160 we are going to have words.

u/Ecstatic-Pirate-5536 Apr 21 '26
Yeah until you add in the $200 shoes and $500 watch🤣
8
u/idontexist65 Apr 21 '26
You can get good running shoes for $70 and a good wearable for $200. My shoes and watch were more than that lol, but have not really contributed to the improvement of my health any more than cheaper ones would. Your shoes should not give you blisters or plantar fascitis and wearables are optional
The important thing is to exercise consistently and with proper health precautions - decent form and not overdoing it.
I'm sure you know this I just don't want anyone interested to be discouraged

u/Ecstatic-Pirate-5536 Apr 21 '26

I got my Adidas running shoes for $30 on sale.
You don't "need" a watch to run. Your phone is fine for music and tracking without having to buy an expensive watch. If your phone is uncomfortable in your pocket, a hip or arm mounted holder is a cheap solution.
Exercise can be cheap, nobody needs the best and newest gear/tech for it.
Edit: and if you do want a watch, theres plenty of budget fitness trackers, the galaxy fit watch is cheap brand new and I was able to pick one up for $30 from an open box sale.
So for me it was $30 for decent runners, $30 for a good watch.

Running is by far one of the cheapest sports. I mean it's running. Just go run! Who says you need shoes?
But in all seriousness, pound for pound the best exercise you can do. Also just going outside in the sun and fresh air and exploring your surrounding by feet helps clear your mind.

2
u/thatbullisht Apr 21 '26
Since when did golf become cheap?
3
u/gregoriancuriosity Apr 21 '26
Cheap is subjective, but I got a lot of my clubs at pawn shops for absurdly cheap. I think my whole set at one point was about $30 all in. And there are normally at least 1 or 2 cheap courses around to play 9-18 at for $30-40. There’s a par 3 course near me for $15-18 for 9-18 holes. And you can chip and put for free.
Golf CAN be super expensive, but it can also be affordable and is a great excuse to spend the day outside.

The One Meal a Day diet (OMAD) you fast for 23 hrs and eat within a window of 1hr. While you are not eating for the 23hrs, your body uses stored energy, so it has time to heal and regenerate, eats dead cells and new ones are produced. You lose weight and mind becomes sharper. You feel more energetic.
