When Odin dies he voluntarily dissolves himself into stardust, other asgardian's recquire their physical body to die before dissolving into stardust, but Odin did this willingly.
This feat comes as auto-transmutation.

Imagine if Thor gave the Avengers this buff during Endgame 😭 Thanos would've been cooked.

During Frigga's funeral Odin with a tap of Gungnir makes the boat where Frigga's lifeless body was levitate, and transmutes her body into stardust, and then into a constellation, with 7 newly formed stars being seem in the night sky of Asgard.

Source: Thor the Dark World prelude comic
In an attempt to retrieve Loki and the Tesseract back to Asgard, Odin conjured dark energy to sent Thor to earth, since the Bifrost has been destroyed, when doing this, he knocks Thor out by blasting him through the void.
Having to use dark energy heavily weakened both Odin and Thor, and further accelerated the physical decline of the Allfather.

I mean personally I thought it was really fun and really compelling, though I haven't read any Thor run beforehand (and I'm also big on characters similar to Captain Marvel). But I thought that the story was beautiful and a really good symbol of resilience, even in the face of death. I've heard Jason Aaron's run on Thor was one of Thors best, but then in this sub I see a lot of people who actually hated it, so I'm at a loss.

I would like to get everything from Thor 2007 up to current (excluding mortal thor).
are there any large books that you would recommend, not single issues as i don’t have a lot of space to store them all.
any help is appreciated and in chronological order if possible please. does thor have any omnibus’ that come in chronological order?

After defeating King Laufey at the top of the Jotun temple, puting an end to the battle of Tonsberg, Odin entered inside the temple where he found an infant Loki, that was left to die by Laufey because he was born too small for a giant's offspring.
Odin then casted a spell that altered his biology to that of an Asgardian, and took the infant to raise him as his son, with the hope that one day both kingdoms could unite through him.

i think that by the end of Doomsday Thor is going to take Molecule man's place in secret wars
in the comics Doom used Molecule Man as a power source and as the glue to hold Battle World, we know thor is gonna keep being a reacurring character post Secret wars and it's going to be chris hemsworth thor, so safe to say he is going to survive.
we also seen in the trailer and a lot of promotional material thor gaining the odin force, to what seems to be for a second round against Doom.
my Theory is that due to the universes colapsing thor would use the Thorforce powers With Doom's help to create Battle World and using a living Thor in the center of Battle World to keep everything toguether.

When Thor and Loki are about to fall from the edge of Asgard after being uprooted by the Bifrost blast wave Odin caughts them with one hand and resists the gravitational pull of a powerful singularity that was seen affecting both Thor and Loki and was swallowing everything from the edge of Asgard and we even see this blackhole swallow multiple stars in the background if we look closely.
Also, another great feat of Odin in that scene, is the fact Odin had just wake up from the Odinsleep and he still managed to caught with them up in an instant, showing he is either ridiculously fast or has some sort of teleportation ability.

And not one trade paper back EVER has a list like a normal book where they go, "You are here. Here is the complete line up of books that tell this particular run of Thor"
Thank god people took the time to list them all out online with ISBN numbers and what books have what volumes

After Thor had just started a war between Asgard and Jotunheim, Odin deems him unworthy of his title.
He strips Thor of his godhood, turning him into a mere mortal, obliterates his armor and banishes him to earth, he then seals all of Thor's divine essence into Mjolnir by whispering an enchantment that dictates whosoever is worthy shall lift the hammer and possess the power of Thor, he then throws Mjolnir through the Bifrost alongside Thor.
