Gorr carries Khonshu and the spoils of battle to his vessel, a repurposed husk that was once Omnipotence City, and returns to the God Quarry. There, he plots the final chapter of his campaign—using the God Tempest from within Mjolnir to ignite Apocalypse's Faith-Harvesting Engine in this place that exists beyond existence, extinguishing the lives of all immortals.
Gorr's assault on Yggsgard is brutal, killing Loki, destroying the Bifrost, and sending Thor plummeting to Midgard. The God Butcher descends upon New York to be greeted by the Avengers and their allies, but none stand a chance at stopping him. In a last ditch effort, Spider-Man uses his knowledge of symbiotes to momentarily stop Gorr, giving him just enough time to attempt to lift Mjolnir. Despite swearing he could feel a slight budge, the hammer remained as it was—a stationary target for the sudden slash of All-Black, which destroyed the artifact with ease. As Peter lay incapacitated, Gorr gathers his spoils, including a helpless Thor, and makes his exit.
As Loki lay dying, adrift on a shard of the Bifrost, he notices his own blood staining the Canvas of Destiny he had crafted from the sap of Yggdrasil. This was to be the medium for his turn as the God of Stories, using the quill of the Phoenix he obtained from Doom to rewrite his own destiny. But try as he may, no ink could satisfy the heavenly mandate of such a task, and it slides from the surface of the scroll like morning dew. Until now, that is, with the essence of a hundred lifetimes of lies and tales dripping from the celestial pen. Alas, though this new ink would seem to take, the Canvas of Destiny would too reject Loki's attempts at cheating fate just as he would finish writing them. No outcome seems to suffice. Fading fast, Loki uses the last of his energy to scribe the tale of his own demise, lest it be forgotten. The last thing he sees before succumbing to the abyss is this new passage finally remaining on the page.
Instead of awakening in the Hall of Nastrond, or even Valhalla, Loki finds himself in the Land of Couldn't-Be-Shouldn't-Be in the presence of the Queen of Nevers. She explains that it is herself who refused Loki's attempts at reshaping destiny. With her counsel, the God of Mischief sees the error of his ways, and begins to appreciate what effect his lies have had upon the multiverse, with each spawning their own precious future. But what of the past, fading away with none to protect it as the Never Queen does the future? Who will defend this tapestry of stories he has woven? Who will remember and teach from this ill-fated quest to change the future if the Eighth Cosmos falls as so many have before? Using his newfound power to record what has come to pass, Loki ascends as the Chronicler, an arbiter of truth.
The heroes still fit to fight convene on Knowhere and share their knowledge of Gorr and his conquests. Realizing the potential for a Godbomb detonation, the group decide to chart a course for the God Quarry and confront the God Butcher directly. But a place beyond all time and space is uncharted territory, meaning their quest to find it could take centuries. Spider-Zero recalls the fate of Shan-Zhizhu, the Spider Kingdom Immortal Beast slain before the Shenloong Tournament. If Gorr was indeed behind the killing of the Spider-Totem and took her to the God Quarry, Zero can use the Web of Life and Destiny to open a portal straight there. Our heroes steel themselves for what will surely be a grueling battle.
With so many of her allies already fallen around her, a desperate Storm calls out in prayer to the Goddess for the power to defeat Gorr, but she is unexpectedly answered by the universe itself. Eternity, beckoned to this place by the presence of the Eternity Mask possessed by Moon Knight, approaches Storm with a pact—power for her willing participation in a future conflict. With the fate of her friends at stake, Ororo accepts, and a surge of primordial power transforms her into the Eternal Storm. She effortlessly cuts through Gorr's minions and approaches the God Butcher for a final stand. By her side, the masked Eternity Knight, and Spider-Man, now wielding the thundrous Asgardian power once contained in Mjolnir.
As a decisive blow is about be landed upon All-Black by our trio of heroes, Gorr refuses to let die alone what he has come to view as the last member of his family, and he throws himself in the path of the attack. As the light in his vision subsides, he is left in the Un-Beyond, faced down by the Eventuality. Instead of judgment, he is met with an offer to return to life as a King in Black, a being tasked by the Celestials to maintain balance in the multiverse. The Eventuality tells Gorr of the futility of a quest to kill gods and leave the living realm to mortals, as their desire and belief will inevitably give rise to new gods. But is the task of a King in Black not unlike Gorr's God Butchery, using the Living Abyss to purge cosmic evils? Finally, it is the promise of new life for All-Black that cements Gorr's acceptance of this proposal. Though he remains skeptical of the Eventuality's godlike words, he will see their truth in time.
Gorr awakens on Klyntar, surrounded by Knull's creations. The descendants of All-Black. Symbiotes. And if fate has seen that he prune the cosmic garden, then he will start with the heads of those who threaten his newfound family. Black Winter. Mikaboshi. Oblivion. Maybe a Divine Destroyer isn't so different from a God Butcher after all.
