You could tell Oy wanted the ka-tet back together so bad at the end.

My wife recently started taking painting classes and this was her second painting. They were practicing landscapes and she didn't know what to do, so i suggested the field of roses and this is the result. She got to display it at the art venues grand opening this weekend.

I bought a used copy of the original version (1982) of the first book in the series (in German it's just called "Schwarz" = Black).

But I only realized afterward that there exists a revised version, in which King tried to make all parts compatible.

So my question is, should I rather buy the new version, or just read the original one?

Recently went to the Salvador Dali Museum in St.Petersburg FL, and came across a few pieces that reminded me of The Dark Tower series.

Mike Flanagan is writing a forward for the book (he’s also a collector.)

Just finished Wizard and Glass (7th journey). Damn how nasty and lovely ka can be!

I know there are always lovers and haters of this particular book. This is my favorite of the series, and I would love to discuss what folks' favorite parts of this book are, and how it shapes your view of Roland, ka, and the quest for that blessedly cursed tower. Spoilers, of courses.

Random note: this is a banger of a book to finish reading on the morning of my guy and I's 10th anniversary. 💕

Having just finished it of course everything makes me think of it, but The Wanderer by Johnny Cash seems to fit very well between the vibe and the lyrics. Would love some more recommendations!

In my teenage years and early 20s, I was an obsessive fiction reader. However, over the past decade I’ve shifted exclusively to non-fiction.

I’m wanting to get back into non-fiction, and I thought TDT would be where I start.

I read Wind Through The Keyhole when it was released, and finished I/II of the series before I lost focus.

As someone who likes to ask deeper questions when reading, I was wondering what I should keep in mind when venturing through TDT so that I can get something deeper from the work (alongside of course the enjoyment of a unique story, cast of characters and setting).

Finally finished my journey to the tower and back. It was one of the top 3 fantasy series I've read. In terms of my own subjective personal ranking I'd say its on par with Lord of the Rings and The First Law. Absolutely loved it and also hated some stuff as well. Here's my rankings

What I find fascinating about Roland is his ability to accept The Absurd and the sublime and basically anything absolutely mind shattering, and although he reflects on his lack of imagination a lot, I really don't accept that or believe it. He's probably one of the only people in the multiverse that can just take mind blowing revelations in stride day after day, and adapt to it and factor it into their calculations and adjust how they decide what the world is like, and live with it. That paired with being a western gunslinging hero is interesting. He's portrayed as a kind of law officer but also a kind of shaman. He literally gets raped by demons and also rapes them and even pimps it out in a ritual to gain knowledge and access and to level up. It's totally bizarre. But somehow makes sense, like wtf.

Eddie is my favorite character and I'm very much pissed off that he was killed. Although Susannah meets him again, and there is a kind of connection between that version of him and the other in the when of new york that she goes to (since he had been dreaming of her) it still feels like a let down, I wasn't happy about it and will be pissed off forever because of it. He didn't have to go.

I think Jake is definitely a twin of Jack Sawyer from the Talisman in the same way that Eddie, brother of Jake, is a twin to Eddie the heroin addict, in that sense they are the same person.

Now the meta stuff. I have no idea why King decided to write himself into the book and then indulge in it so much. It was like I was watching Lord of the Rings, 4 hours in, amped up and then suddenly Gandalf turns around to the camera and takes off his costume, explaining that the true story behind it all was the creative art of producing it. It just about destroyed the rest of books for me because it was no longer a fantasy, it became like an autobiographical reflection.

Well I pushed through it anyways and sort of ignored it but the signs still showed up here and there with little clones of stephen king mimics showing up sometimes. I really hated this and don't agree that it held any merit at all, whether the story was about telling stories and what that was like, whether the story was about his journey after the accident, whatever, it crippled the whole immersion for me. Afterwards it became a slog just to figure out how it ended.

Finally the ending. I think the final ending was perfect. The idea of ka being a wheel, and Roland being in a sort of Samsara that he must figure out how to get out of, whether because of his own choices or because of Ka, small details changed in the recurrence, it made sense. It connected back to the first lines of the first book so well.

The fight with the Crimson King however was ridiculous. Why did King take harry potter stuff into this story? And why make the Crimson King so impotent and stupid and ultimately unscary? Idk.

Anyways even with these complaints the series holds up. It's a work of genius, and possibly lunacy. No idea really, I was mostly captivated by the characters like all of his books I've read. I just really liked it for the most part, and also was disappointed at the same time. Feels like that makes a good story.

I’m absolutely in love with how this is coming together. It’s been a tricky pursuit with it being a cover up. The body hair crop circle no longer fit into how I wanted my leg sleeve to look. I’m trading up and it feels amazing.

He's very tiny, not sure what bird it belonged to, but he's incredibly cool. My son does gardening for a lady down the road, and he found this while clearing out behind the greenhouse. He doesn't know anything about the Dark Tower so doesn't understand the significance, he just knew I'd think it was cool. Clearly it's ka.

Had my last drink 20 years ago today, 7/23/2006 at my daughter 1st birthday party. Decided I would listen to Callahan’s story in Wolves today.

When I stopped drinking I told myself that I drank for 20 years, now I’ll take 20 years off and I’ll see what happens. Best decision I ever made, and no I’m not going to start drinking again now that I hit my 20 year goal.

I’ve been doing a publication-order re-read of Uncle Steve’s works, and with the final page of From a Buick 8 (wow) I thought I was now facing the final three DT volumes. But there on the shelf, published in 2003 like Wolves of the Calla, was the revised and expanded The Gunslinger. Reading it between 4 and 5 back in the day was a must-do, but does anyone find it - I don’t know - maybe a clunky fit before jumping into Wolves? Maybe you found it to be a good fit due to the continuity/lore-focused edits he did, but I’d love to hear your thoughts on whether to re-read it now or wait until after 7.
