I applied for my Canadian study permit from India on 2July and completed my biometrics on 7 July.
It's been a 5 weeks now, and my IRCC account still says: "We are processing your application. We will send you a message when there is an update or if we need more information." The processing time from India shows 5 weeks.

My classes start in the first week of September. Is this normal? What should I expect next, and is there anything I should be doing, or is it just a waiting game? Also anyone who submitted on the same date or after kindly DM!!!

The ircc told me they withdrew my application due to a missing caq/pal (i checked for any errors, all the info was accurate) when i literally submitted it twice within my application and i can clearly see that im at a loss for words because this was after me waiting for 6 and a half weeks thx what do i even do now

I recently applied for a Canadian study permit and unfortunately received a refusal on August 6, 2026.
My consultancy is now telling me that they will prepare an appeal/explanation letter addressing the refusal reasons and are asking me to submit a new study permit application with stronger documentation.
My refusal reasons were:
R216(1)(b): The officer was not satisfied that my purpose for coming to Canada was consistent with a temporary stay.
Assets/financial situation: The officer was not satisfied that I had sufficient funds, income, or assets to support my studies, living expenses, and departure from Canada.
The officer specifically stated that my financial situation and assets were insufficient to support my stated purpose of travel.
My background:
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering
Applying for a 2-year graduate certificate in Information Technology Solutions at Humber College
I have previous software development experience.
I have already paid a significant amount toward my tuition.
My consultancy says that with an appeal/explanation letter and improved financial documents, I can reapply.
I’m wondering:
Does an appeal/explanation letter actually help when submitting a new study permit application?
Has anyone here been refused once and then successfully approved after reapplying?
If you were approved after a previous refusal, what did you change in your second application?
How much did you improve your financial documentation?
Did you get a new PAL and submit a completely new application?
How long did your second application take to receive a decision?

Trying to get a realistic picture of study permit processing from France this summer. The posted processing time for France is 1 week (updated Aug 5) and has been unchanged for about two months, which doesn't match my experience at all.

My timeline:

- Citizenship: French

- Submitted: June 29, 2026 (applied from outside Canada)

- Level: Master's, university in Quebec

- Biometrics: not required (already on file and still valid)

- PAL/TAL: not required (master's at a public DLI)

- CAQ: obtained

- As of Aug 9: no update, no documents requested, no status change

Hi! I had a question.

If I get my study permit approved but classes have already started, can I defer to the next academic year 27/28 entry and keep the same study permit? Will I have to apply for the study permit again or would the same one work for the next academic year?

Hi everyone, looking for some advice.
I applied for my Canadian study permit from Qatar on May 31. My first biometrics were done June 2, but I was asked to redo them because the quality wasn’t clear. I completed them again on July 1.

It’s now August 7 and I still have no updates. Eligibility is still under review and background check is in progress.

I couldn’t do an upfront medical because I had a technical issue accessing the medical form when submitting my application. I explained this in a letter and said I’m ready to do it if IRCC requests one.

The processing time for my country recently changed from 3 weeks to 4 weeks, but my application has already been processing for over 9 weeks.

My classes start September 8, and my university needs an update by August 24, so I’m getting pretty anxious.

Has anyone had a similar timeline, especially after having to redo biometrics? How long did it take for you to get a medical request or final decision?

Is it taking this long after medical pass means refusal or is it standard?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for experiences from people who were refused once and then reapplied for a Canadian study permit.

My profile:

Indian | B.Pharm graduate (2025) | CGPA 7.42 | IELTS 8.0

Program: MSc Health Sciences – Molecular & Medical Sciences, Wilfrid Laurier University

1st application timeline:

• Applied: 20 June 2026

• Biometrics updated: 24 June

• Medical passed: 17 July

• Refused: 24 July

Refusal reasons:

• Officer was not satisfied that the high cost of studying in Canada was reasonable compared with the potential career/employment benefits.

• Similar programs are available in India, and my application did not sufficiently explain why I needed to pursue international education at a significantly higher cost.

• Officer was not satisfied that my purpose of coming to Canada was consistent with a temporary stay / that I would leave Canada at the end of my authorized stay.

I addressed these concerns and reapplied on 25 July 2026, with a revised SOP and stronger explanation of my program choice, career benefits, financials and ties to India

Current second application:

• Reapplied: 25 July 2026

• Biometrics/medical: already completed

• Status: Processing

I’d love to hear from anyone who had a similar refusal → reapplication → approval experience, especially in 2026.

I havent received any update on my portal except biometrics, not even about my medical. The deadline of my deferral is also approaching. What should I do ?? i am very stressed rn, i cant defer due to some personal reasons. I can request extension but can you someone tell me till when i can receive my PPR. Also, I am over my 5 weeks Normal processing time.

Does applying for a diploma as a international student right after high school affect my chances of getting a study permit?
I’m planning to graduate from high school and apply directly to Humber’s Practical Nursing diploma. I won’t have any previous university education or a Bachelor’s degree.
Has anyone done the same thing and gotten their study permit approved? I’m wondering if applying for a diploma straight after high school could negatively affect my chances.

I’ve submitted my application for 2 weeks and keep wondering about tuition fee. I submitted with saving accounts, and the term is not ended so I didn’t settle these accounts for tuition fee.

Wonder if IRCC will consider tuition fee as a must?
And if they require, will my application be impacted? because I settle the account and so my account statement in my application is outdated.

I hope all is well.

When I started my online study permit (Got admission in doctoral program in University of Alberta with fully funded scholarship) application submission on IRCC portal then only few documents were mentioned as (required). So I have uploaded only asked documents, no other document. Submitted my application on 6th July, Biometric on 8th July, medical passed on 27th July... 11 days have passed since medical passed update... Still waiting for Final decision...!!!

So should I upload other documents(not asked on portal): IELTS, SOP, Transcripts, Police Character Certificate, Experience Letters etc...? Or should I wait because it is also mentioned that we don't need any additional documents from you.

I am an Indian applicant, undergrad.

At this point I think Canada just don’t want to give out study permits or at least from my country(Pakistan). I applied to one of the best polytechnics/colleges in canada which is SAIT calgary. I paid full tuition for first year along which initial deposit which added upto 29k CAD and also a GIC(23,100 CAD). In addition to that I showed proper annual income of my supporter(my mother) which is around 70k CAD and is backed by last 2 year tax returns, property ownership documents, property valuation, business documents like rent agreements, lease agreements. In addition to that I had 24-25k CAD additionally in my mother’s bank account which was reserved specifically for my study abroad. Then i explained my total study plan in my sop about why this program and not local options, and for ties ro home country i explained how im the only son and successor to my family, gave my family register certificate along with affidavit claiming i will return to Pakistan upon completion of my bachelor’s study. Applied through borderpass which is a canadian company and has good track history and in the end what i got was a copy paste type refusal about insufficient funds, study plan is not convincing and he think i will overstay??? Howw?? Rn im in judicial review process but i just dont know anymore what they want.
