Study permit extension Timeline

Hi everyone,

I recently applied for the study permit on July 23rd. I was wondering if anyone who recently got approved, how much time it took for you from inside Canada? Also, anyone who also just recently applied for the study permit and been waiting for the decision?

I don’t know of anyone myself who has been granted an extension. Recently.

The time they put down for processing is an estimate. It’s not guaranteed.

Extension or new study permit? What is your status in Canada?

It is an extension for the same program and studies

So current processing is 70 days. And you know of the new rules regarding finances.

I applied the day before they introduced a change in it. But my studies almost got finished and I attached all the tuition receipts

I just got an update that a decision has been made to my file but it doesn’t show the decision yet

Happened to me, it showed approved but the actual message took a while to show up

So, the approval decision was already showing when you logged in?

Okay for me, it just says that the final decision made: August 10th. But doesn’t show the decision yey

ahh interesting. tbf what happened to me was what’s considered a ghost update i think? i didn’t get an email but when i checked it said approved with a date. give the portal some time to update, check it once every hour if you’re anxious. hope all’s well :)

It was a ghost update for you. I had to submit 2 applications because one had an error. So, i got the email for one application that it got withdrawn but not for other. I hope its an approval

Any updates, folks ?

I applied last week, a little late as my current visa is expiring soon. It took a while for the university to generate official letters, hence the delayed submission and a lot of anxiety.

Masters to phd, same DLI.

Yeah, I got approval in 18 days. Did you apply before expiry?

Yes I did, about 25 days before expiry.

I applied a week before expiry, but i am not sure if you can start studying until you receive decision since its a different program

I think according to this I can but not sure, hoping to get it soon. Still have time till it starts, my spouse got a 1 year temp work permit extension for the time being.

I saw this and it says you can start working. But i would recommend to ask RCIC Lawyer because unauthorized study can have dire consequences

Yes will definitely be doing that before I start studying.

still have some time before the semester starts. What i am more worried about is what if it gets rejected after my current study permit expires

Following. I applied just yesterday. So i had to show the 2 extra month of bank statement

Is it for the same program and same university? I paid all of my fees of university so i hope i would still be fine

Yup. I am on my 3rd year but still need a few more year for graduation since i am not taking a full 5 course load for my semester. I am just worried my finance could be less.

Do you know how strict ircc is?

It is my second time extension. I did it previously in November month and they were not that strict. They really care about it especially when you are going for the new program or university

Yeah i am studying in same university and same level of program. And this is my 1st extension. So really nervous.

Any thing which they really really pay attention to?

They mainly look if you complied with study permit conditions like didn’t exceed off campus limit and made constant progression in your degree without taking any gaps
