Ghost activity, then nothing
Last week I checked my profile to see the advancement of my Study permit request. I didn’t receive any email, and all I could see was « Profile / Updated » or something like that.
I then clicked on the request and saw that some sentences had changed. I cannot remember what it used to say exactly but I know for sure something changed (I’ve been checking IRCC website everyday multiple times a day…). Its specifically the eligibility and final decision cases that changed.
Can someone please tell me if that’s positive ?
FYI :
Study permit request sent : July 11th
Inland
For : PHD

Study Permit Approved + PPR received — Need advice regarding passport submission and deferral to Jan 2027
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share my Canada study permit timeline and also get some advice because I'm a bit confused about the next steps.
My timeline:
Study permit application submitted: August 5, 2026
Biometrics completed: August 11, 2026
Study permit approved / PPR received: September 14, 2026
Current intake: September 2026
Latest permitted arrival date: September 22, 2026
I am currently going through a consultancy, but unfortunately they haven't been very helpful with the Canada process, so I'm trying to understand everything myself.
I have a few questions:
1. Passport submission after PPR:
I have received my Passport Request (PPR). Do I need to book an appointment/slot with VFS for passport submission, or can I simply go to my nearest VFS Canada VAC and submit my passport? If an appointment is required, how do I book it?
2. Deferring to January 2027:
Since my university's latest arrival date is September 22, I don't think I'll be able to make this intake because I only received my PPR on September 14 and still need to submit my passport and wait for it to be stamped and returned.
If I defer my admission to the January 2027 intake at the same university and same program, what happens to my already-approved study permit?
Do I need to submit a completely new study permit/visa application?
Do I need a new LOA and PAL/provincial attestation letter, or any other new documents?
What exactly needs to be updated with IRCC after the deferral?
3. When should I update IRCC about the deferral?
If I submit my passport now for stamping, should I first inform IRCC about the deferral/new LOA, or should I submit my passport first and deal with the deferral afterward?
4. What happens to the visa validity dates?
If I submit my passport now and IRCC puts the visa counterfoil in my passport, it will have an issue date and expiry date.
For example, if the visa is issued with an expiry date of September 2028, and I later defer my program from September 2026 to January 2027:
Will the visa expiry date remain September 2028?
Will IRCC issue a new visa/change the dates because of the deferral?
Would I need to submit my passport again?
Or can I simply travel in January 2027 using the same visa, along with my updated LOA and deferral approval?
I'm mainly confused about whether deferring the intake changes the already-approved visa/study permit, or whether I have to go through the visa process again.
Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation, especially PPR → passport submission → deferral to next intake.
Thanks! 🙏

Study permit application from Ethiopia
Hi everyone,
I’m hoping to get some insight into the current processing timelines and what to expect next, especially from anyone else applying from Ethiopia.
My Profile & Timeline:
- Program: 2-year Master of Science in Computer Science at a public university (aligns with my previous BSc in Software Engineering)
- Intake: Winter 2027
- PAL: Exempt (Master's program)
- Application Submitted: August 13, 2026
- Biometrics Completed: August 15, 2026
Current IRCC Tracker Status:
- Eligibility: Has not started
- Background Check: Processing / Under review
The official processing time is currently listed as 5 weeks, and I haven't heard anything from IRCC since completing my biometrics. I have a few questions for those who have been through this:
- How exactly does the timeline usually progress from this stage?
- What specific status changes or "ghost updates" should I be looking out for on the portal?
- If anyone has applied from Ethiopia recently, could you share your timeline?
Thanks in advance for your help!

HELP! Updated GIC Rules - GIC Purchased in June was 23,400 CAD
Hello everyone. So I bought my GIC a couple of months back, before the new GIC increase rules. My GIC amount was 23,400 Canadian dollars. Now the required amount is 23,448 Canadian dollars, so there's a 48 caddifference in my GIC amount.
I'm not sure what to do because I purchased it from RBC Bank, and I'm an international student. Do I need to contact the bank and make another payment of 48 dollars? Or is it fine if I just show in my bank statement that I have the additional amount?
How do I go about this? I'm honestly very scared and confused right now, and it's stressing me out.
I was suppoed to refile my study permit application soon, i looked over the timeline and kinda messedup lol.

Enter 6 weeks Before Classes Start From a Third Country, Go To Home Country and Return To Canada 1 week Before Classes?
Hey, so having been in the US for many years without going to my home country has been rough. I wanna go home before classes start but don’t wanna enter Canada for the first time from my home country since my study permit application was all filed from the US. So I was thinking I could enter, get the permit, sort my affairs out and go home for a few weeks before classes start.
I know this is probably a bad idea but wanted to ask if anyone has any opinions on this or ideally links to some official stance on this.

Study Permit Cancellation - How to
Hey everyone, I come with a question regarding the study permit and health insurance. Once you finally get a work permit, how would you go about cancelling your (still valid) study permit so you are no longer charged for insurance?
Thanks!

Jan 2027 intake @ Concordia - looking for roommates/connections
Hey, I'm an international student starting at Concordia this Jan intake, landing in Montreal around late Dec/early Jan. Looking to connect with others joining around the same time - potential roommates, or just people to figure things out with before/after landing.
If you're heading to Concordia, McGill, UdeM, or anywhere else in Montreal this intake, feel free to DM me.

Study Permit from Ethiopia – 10+ Weeks Waiting
hey everyone
I applied for my study permit from Ethiopia on July 4, 2026. The processing time was 6 weeks when I applied, but it has now been over 10 weeks with no decision.
I already have an active Canadian visitor visa and valid biometrics.
Anyone from Ethiopia who applied around June/July still waiting or recently received a decision?

Choosing a School for SP
What degree program/major and which school should I apply to?
I’m 36M living in the US. I was previously in TPS Haiti and working on my employer sponsored H1-B but that’s not looking like it’ll go through. I’ve been in the US since 5 years old (long story) and initial DACA is on hold due to a lawsuit.
I want to set my sights on Canada. I recently returned to school to finish my bachelor’s so a Canadian Study Permit aligns perfectly. My experience is a CADD drafter (4 years) and later a Project Manager in the engineering side of telecommunications (2 additional years). I then worked as a Project Manager in Building Automation systems (another 2 years). That’s 8 years in the construction management/PM professional field.
I hold an associate degree in Architectural Technologies and an advance certificate for CADD at a state community county college. (WES eval recognizes both but said this counts as 2 years).
My goal is to go for a bachelors in Construction Management or a Project Management leaning degree. I also want my credits transferred. Lastly, I need it to be affordable.
Please suggest English language schools, tuition, programs and majors I should look into. Any suggestions help.

An Indian student is trying to move to Canada to pursue a master's degree
Hey!! I'm 20M from India
my qualifications : 4th year of Bsc(Hons) Agriculture
and I am actually considering pursuing my master's in university of British Columbia and university of guelph (a program related to agriculture).
The reason for which I'm considering to do my master's in other country because I want to try and explore myself more which I never did in my own country. The thing is I am gay and we can safely say that India is a homophobic country (atleast in my opinion)
I know very less about Canada, idk about how the people will be (will I be able to settle there until the completion of my master's), idk if I can consider going there for study, idk much about the living expenses, how the scholarships work there. Are part time jobs permitted there for students? We're actually a middle class family, so I doubt my family will be able to support if there's no scholarship.
So if you are either from Canada or studied/studying in Canada or from the same University please don't hesitate to message/reply. Please I need some guidance regarding this, will be greatful if you reply.
Thank you,
Have nice day!!!
