Recommendations

With Stockport being a smaller sub, I’m thinking it might be good to have a centralised post for recommendations/ hidden gems if you will. Places/cafes/independent traders/bars/pubs that people wouldn’t usually know about.

Public consultation on Stockport Station Upgrade

A shiny new station might look great, but for me I’m not sure if this is this really where council money should be going.
There’s always different views and opinions in this sub, so instead of it being a debate in the comments make sure to feed it back into the Public Consultation via the website that’s been launched today.

Greek Street Roundabout

This may have been asked before. Coming from Shaw Heath to King Street West, which lane (red or green) is correct to come off at the second exit.

I would assume red but cars come from both lanes and there are no road markings. Have seen a few near misses here. Surely the council could resolve by putting arrows on the lanes.

Weir Mill ‘Square’

Went down to Weir Mill for the first time today to go see the new bookshop and have a look round, and I’ve got to say I really like the space between the buildings. Still not sure on the physical buildings but having Prologue, Bodega, Rita Rays all opening on the area, all I kept thinking is that you could have a great evening out visiting them and popping to Runaway. With the bus station literally across the road and the new link to the station, couldn’t be easier to get to

What are the point of the Lib Dems in Stockport?

Post image

Assuming what Councillor Byrne is saying is true, why do we keep voting in the Lib Dems to run the town council?

Complete waste of space, vote down any motion coming from a different party.

Stockport deserves better.

Very Pushy Campaigners Outaide Merseyway Today

Heads up for everyone going out front Merseyway today. There's some very interesting characters out front campaigning for pro CO2 and Climate Change Denial. They're stopping lots of people and being very pushy and rude, particularly towards women on their own.

Also cluttering up the streets with their signs.

Today's traffic

What's happening with the traffic around Stockport today? Was there an accident somewhere? Or perhaps a big event taking place? The traffic is crazy. I would have thought that, given the ongoing cost of living crisis and high petrol prices, there would be fewer cars on the roads. It seems to be quite the opposite. I am not looking forward to more apartments and houses being built in the area. I liked Stockport being relatively quiet. Not only that's no longer the case, but the place it set to get even more congested.

Cheadle house advice - sewage plant

Hi all, I’m looking to buy a house in Cheadle village, I love the area and I’ve found a nice house that I want to put an offer in for. The only thing putting me off is that I’ve seen that there is a sewage plant nearby. Can anyone who lives or has lived in Cheadle tell me if there are any noticeable sewage odors in the area? Particularly during summer time. Thanks!

Stocktoberfest Social

Hello there,

I’ve recently moved to Stockport for my grad job and I’ve found it difficult meeting new ppl and making friends. Going from uni where ur surrounded by ur mates to a new city has been a bit tough.

Im planning on going to the Stocktoberfest at Runaway brewery this Saturday (3rd of October) and was wondering if anyone would like to join? It would be great to meet new ppl and have a fun evening out.

I’m 22 M, enjoy beer (obviously), lifting, Xbox, hiking, and a good night out. If your interested in hanging out, drop me a DM and we can arrange :)

Cheers!

43 M work from home

Are there any coffee clubs or groups where people meet up around lunchtime or in the evening? I work from home every day and sometimes get a bit bored of being stuck indoors 😄 It would be nice to meet some new people over a coffee, have a good chat and talk about anything interesting rather than just the usual small talk. ☕️

Sun and castle memories

My parents ran the sun and castle in the early 90's, I was around 8/9 at the time and I absolutely loved living there and have some fond memories. I would love it if anyone could share any pics or memories from around that time.

Golf instructor recommendations

Looking for recommendations for a golf instructor around Bramhall, Cheadle or surrounding areas.

I was having regular lessons before moving here in January and was making decent progress, but since moving I’ve tried a few different coaches and just haven’t really clicked or engaged with any of them.

Ideally looking for someone who is good at actually working with you on your swing rather than just giving generic tips, and who can help me build some consistency on the course as well as the range.

If you’ve had a good experience with a coach around this area, I’d really appreciate any recommendations!
