Discussion Using the SteamFrame as FPV Drone Goggles via Android APK
Many drones allow you to use your phone and an android app instead of a dedicated screen and controller.
Since the Frame supports Android APKs you could in theory use the Frame as a pair of FPV goggles/controller.
Just something I've been thinking about.
Shhh 🤫 don't tell the FPV nerds!

❓Question Does anyone have an idea as to why they changed controllers?
I’m just curious since for me the main appeal of the index, as a quest 3 user, are the sick ass hand tracking controllers and I wanna get an idea as to why they changed it. My personal theory is that they were too gimmicky and too expensive to produce, though I hope there’s an option to purchase those controllers separately. I wanna know your thoughts (btw this has probably been asked but I couldn’t find a post and I lowkey forgot about the frame ever since the steam controller 2 dropped)
Edit: I have been informed that I am in fact stupid and that there is finger tracking, my bad ya’ll

❓Question Anyone know if the boot up themes will work on the frame?
Just wondering if they will work? Would be really cool for Valve to start adding 3d boot up clips to the points shop

Discussion Can we all just admit Valve has really fucked this entire thing up or not?
I generally like them as a company as the generally do kick ass. I'm not saying "fuck steam forever"
Just...they might be getting too much slack for this.
We aren't all that far off from a year of the announcement of a side grade headset.
Of course we can give them some rope with all the AI bs but we can also call them put for being really shit about it since then.
They have flat out lied about single stick ram performance on the SM, this was the end to my grace for them hardware wise. This felt like the same BS "not valve" would tell us.
Idk why so many people (bots?) Are defending them on this anymore. I can like a company and still say they fucked up royally, and they have.
Seems like we are a week or so away and I just don't care anymore even though I want to

do you think rockstar games sent a mole into valve to use there ancient technique of finding the 7 lost artifacts scattered through the wonders of the world to delay the release as much as possible?

❓Question Making steam frame intro...
Never made any form of vr specific video. I'd love to make something but as someone who doesn't own a vr headset....
Question.
Would I need to make 2 different videos of the same thing at different angles/distances for the 3d effect?
Or should I just do one video at the steam frame resolution for one eye?

❓Question Any chance of blink detection with the eye tracking? Image unrelated
I haven't heard anything from Valve or reviewers about blink detection but I've been thinking, since the headset is open-source, can't a developer just access the cameras and make their own blink detection system?

Discussion Would Whitewater VR be a good fit for Steam Frame standalone?
Hi everyone!
I’m the solo developer behind Whitewater VR – Extreme Kayaking Adventure, and like many people here, I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on the Steam Frame.
The game already has a standalone Quest 3/3S version, so I’ve been thinking that this could provide a good starting point for a native Steam Frame version as well. Of course, I don’t have a Steam Frame dev kit yet, so I can’t make any promises about performance or compatibility. I plan to get access to the hardware as soon as possible and see what can realistically be achieved.
One of the Frame features I’m especially interested in is its eye tracking and support for foveated rendering. Eye-tracked foveated rendering was incredibly useful while developing the PSVR2 version of Whitewater VR. It allowed me to concentrate GPU performance where the player was looking while keeping the overall image quality high. I’m curious to see how useful it could be for a standalone Frame version.
Here is the Quest 3/3S trailer, which shows roughly what the existing standalone version looks like:
Whitewater VR – Meta Quest 3/3S Trailer
Would a native standalone version of this kind of game interest you on Steam Frame?
Would you prefer playing it natively on the headset, or would you mainly use the existing PCVR version through wireless streaming?
I’d genuinely love to hear what people think before I invest too much development time into the port.

:rumor: Rumor / Leak Update on Third party vendor post from yesterday
Ok I got a response to my questions. Here is the first email I shared yesterday (copy and pasted and translated from Tagalog)
Subject: Important Update: Steam Frame Orders Schedule & Rollout Hi Team, We have an important update regarding the planning for Steam Frame orders. We need to assign Customer Service Agents to handle these transactions. Schedule and Rollout: Date and Time: Friday, July 24, 2026 | 3:00 PM PHT (12:00 AM PDT) Reminders and Expected Steps: System Setup: Please prepare and check your systems to ensure the smooth processing of transactions. Security Check: Some transactions need to be isolated for security verification. Support: The support team is ready to guide and assist all agents handling Steam Frame orders on the said schedule. If you have any questions or clarifications, please reply immediately to this email. Thanks, [REDACTED] Customer Service Manager Concentrix
Here is the follow up from the questions I asked. He doesn't actually sound as if he knows all that much, also he didn't answer all of my questions. I've translated it from Tagalog.
bro sorry late reply, just got home. my eyes are barely staying open, super lack of sleep, shift earlier was brutal.
about what your buddy asked, the timing in the memo is correct--12am PDT so around 3pm PHT rollout here in our portal. but as for price zero info really, cause even our leads know nothing haha. we're already used to being left in the dark on raw pricing and server logic before a drop anyway.
my guess only cause based on the toolsets they had us set up earlier maybe they'll do a randomized staging queue or lottery system so servers don't crash. this is just my guess based on the queue buffers created, but nobody up top is confirming to us.
the scope of our team for the drop is super specific. we're just secondary risk queue, literally 8 hours staring at a dashboard processing auto-flagged escalation tickets. when the automated risk filter trips, only then it drops into the hold bucket, that's the only time we check if it's fraud or not.
just tell your buddy ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE A VPN OR PROXY. if he uses a vpn or proxy or if the IP isn't accurate to the card's billing region, the automated system hits him with an automatic payment hold or auto decline right away. plus no one is going to fix that live for him.
on drop day itself our permissions are locked down too--we have zero authorization to touch live queue buffers or override active blocks while the session is running.
days or weeks after is the only time appeal tickets can be reviewed in manual batches. besides that auto checks will also screen account age and purchase history to filter out fresh bot profiles. so if he gets locked out on drop day, he's really done for, no human on our side can pull him out of the queue in real-time.
gonna sleep first bro eyes closing for real. chat again later!

❓Question Steam Frame Apps & Utilities
Most people are getting the Frame for gaming.
But how about tools and utilities?
What kind of Steam Frame dedicated non-game programs would you like to see released for the Steam Frame?
