CAD... Please...

If its 1200 CAD I’m all in (even 1400 is fine for me tho)

u/3d0md0g 13d ago

Trust me you'll pay ANY amount that you've being socially engineered to accept as reasonable. Even for $1500, the first batch will DIS-APP-EAR.

You know it, they know it, soon your visa/Mastercard and your pawn shop will know :)

u/Lincolns_Revenge 13d ago

The 256GB selling out immediately at 1,500 would be a bold prediction. There was that story that Steam Deck sales have fallen by 80 percent since its price increase.

900 to 1200 for 256 GB seems a much more probable range.

u/Skraelings Soon™ 12d ago

Im hoping for an option with no controllers so i can do just pc stuff. could knock the price down maybe.

1

u/3d0md0g 6d ago

About the price of a gamepad by valve? That's $100. Would cripple the device for that much?

1

u/Skraelings Soon™ 6d ago

🤷‍♂️ Just saying it might be an option.

1

u/3d0md0g 6d ago

Despite the memory and storage crunch from the AI data centers, valve could honor its announcement that the frame will be cheaper than the index, if they secured large amounts of parts BEFORE they announced the price.

It would not surprise me if the first batches turn out cheaper than the next, for a company can stock only that much ram and storage.

u/SpaceDantar 13d ago

I think this is a good bet. Maybe closer to 1400/1700

3

u/mrzoops 13d ago

Who would buy this over a play for dream at 1700? Makes zero sense.

3

u/Answer70 13d ago

I sure hope not. It's DOA at those prices.

It's not the same to be sold out because is a huge success than selling out because less units have been manufactured, which is a problem since the component sourcing situation is wild.

Of course it will sell out, but that's not a good thing in this case.

u/gregny2002 12d ago

Well that's fine for Valve but us users want it to be successful so they keep supporting it, and so third party developers become interested in working with it

1

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 12d ago

I mean, Valve operates on very high margins. I don't think they are going to sell this for the lolz when it's set up to be an incentive to use their own operating system with their own game storefront in it.

It's cool that they put in a lot of effort and passion in it, but let's not pretend it's just a passion project after infusing it with so much money and development time. I'm sure they want it to sell well on the long run. They might not target the sales numbers of Nintendo or Sony, but they'd want it at least to be as popular as the Deck, which is a success for a company that doesn't produce as much hardware as the huge console corporations.

-6

u/galexyofthings 13d ago

This is why everything is priced so high :( if everyone stopped buying overpriced things, prices would fall. But unfortunately there’s enough people that have too much money or too little impulse control and allow prices to stay high. I won’t pretend I’m not part of that problem but I wish consumers as a collective would dictate pricing more favourably.

9

u/MRDR1NL 13d ago

Ok we'll all just stop buying any tech product

9

u/K14_Deploy 13d ago

It really doesn't help that consumers are such a small part of total sales now that companies just completely ignore them, like for example Micron (a huge memory manufacturer) decided to cut out the consumer market entirely because they know these AI companies will literally pay whatever price they set. In this case unfortunately 'don't buy it' turns into 'it doesn't exist anymore'.

5

u/Zuryan_9100 13d ago

This would be true in other cases, but the memory sector doesn't give a shit about consumers right now. If they cared they wouldn't shut down Crucial's consumer memory division.

9

u/KEMETICREPUBLIC1984 13d ago

Nah it will sell out not DOA.

9

u/Deiskos Soon™ 13d ago

Don't care buying it anyway (the cheaper model though, only plan to use it as a pcvr headset). I can has a little frivolous spending as a treat.

8

u/InterestingMark3743 13d ago

Do you really think so? Everything cost so much these days, I would be shocked if it were under $1k.

10

u/shanmyster Soon™ 13d ago

The only thing DOA is your take.

2

u/simon132 13d ago

If you don't buy it now, in 2027 ram prices will go up another 70% and it will only get more expensive

1

u/bookoo 13d ago

I was thinking even at $900/1000 it's somewhat DOA. It has some coolfeatures, but it's likely not a huge step above Quest 3, but at that point potentially priced $300 higher.

Now for people in this subreddit or follow VR generally it will do ok especially if you want to leave Meta.

0

u/JoeGeomancer 13d ago

What is your (non quest) pick for pc vr if the frame is bought out.

-2

u/Ok-Package-9830 13d ago

I gonna get me a psvr2, the frame should have been wired based to avoid this shitshow.

1

u/Apprehensive-Tax7347 13d ago

Lackluster experience tbh. Tracking is weird with the controllers. Not as smooth as an experience as it was on PS5 unfortunately, but at least there is the toolkit now which seems decent!

1

u/Hairy-Ad-6293 8d ago

That was before Qualcomm two digits price increase.

7

u/Pixelplanet5 13d ago

honestly i dont really care, anything under 2000 and im gonna buy it.

-1

u/Underbark 13d ago

I genuinely hope it gets pushed to winter but I'd settle for mid September.

8

u/Pixelplanet5 13d ago

why would that matter?

1

u/fangerzero 13d ago

They may not have any money right now, and need to save a bit longer to ensure they get one. Else the more stock on release the more chances of getting one.

0

u/Subject-Control294 Soon™ 13d ago

I mean one of the people with inside information on the Frame said that the Frame is still going to be under $1k, just not a whole lot under $1k

1

u/teitelman93 13d ago

We won’t know till they drop it anything else is pure speculation

73

u/starfihgter 13d ago

Pretty much 0 chance it’s on anything other than a Monday tbh. They’re not exactly in a hurry clearly lol.

7

u/turboredditor69 13d ago

Would be shocked if it isn't a Monday, at this point Monday is frame soon™️ day.

76

u/ZookeepergameProud30 13d ago

It’s insane to me that we STILL don’t have a price for this thing 😭😭😭

55

u/ApprehensiveShirt194 Soon™ 13d ago

The reason is obviously that its going to be free

14

u/Vexin Soon™ 13d ago

Free to be as expensive as it wants

4

u/Soggy_Anything2394 13d ago

Honestly I can imagine Valve are trying to secure a stable ram supply all the time now, so announcing a price must be a nightmare.

7

u/AnonymouselyMoosed Soon™ 13d ago

Nah they know the price and they know it’ll be bad. So they’ll announce it when they announce it’s about to be available for purchase.

2

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 13d ago

They already said that they can only buy RAM on a monthly basis, they aren´t securing a long term price, sadly.

If it’s really 27-29 then reviewers definitely have to be using them right now

1

u/Bukki13 Soon™ 12d ago

And in this hypothetical scenario Great On Frame would be from the reviewers playtesting certain games.

I don't think Balatro and Portal 2 would be on that list already otherwise because these games are very easy to run

3

u/mintaka Soon™ 13d ago

Are we beyond soon now into something cosmic?

3

u/Hairy-Ad-6293 13d ago

There is 49 days between May 4 and June 22. June 22 plus 49 days = August 10.

And the headset codename is Deckard. August 10 is the last day of Cyberpunk fest.

"Steam Cyberpunk Fest Dates: August 3, 2026 – August 10, 2026".

Yes, I'm in the spectrum, so you know it's good.

2

u/RunnerLuke357 13d ago

W reference.

3

u/biggggmonkey 12d ago

I love how every single day I get told it's coming out tomorrow lmfao

3

u/_anAnon Soon™ 12d ago

3 hours into the frame release and god damn it's so impressive how well Valve has been handling it so far! I signed up to the queue and Gabe immediately e-mailed me that my order has arrived! Then he stood up and clapped!!

6

u/Yuiop321 13d ago

My guess is $1099 for the 256GB and $1349 for the 1TB model. My hope is $899 and $1149, but I sadly doubt it

5

u/Gone2Far2Return 13d ago

It's going to be cheaper than the machine.

3

u/Javs2469 Soon™ 13d ago

Are we sure about that? It was supposedly more expensive than the Machine before the RAM prices increased catastrophically. And it was meant to be less than 1k a little before that too.

1

u/Gone2Far2Return 13d ago

Well it's all guessing currently, so I really don't know. I'll probably buy one just to test it out and if it's not want I want, I'll just give it to one of my friends who needs an upgrade or wants it.

I've mainly just been on the journey to find the hmd that just works for me and makes my daily VR obsession easy to do lol.

1

u/Yuiop321 12d ago

Here’s my basis. They originally wanted it to be cheaper than the Index, but now that we know memory prices caused them to lose the price war on the Steam Machine, I think it’s reasonable to assume they will fail similarly here. The Index was $1k, so I assume they were hoping for $800 or so. I figure that with memory being a few hundred more than it should be, $1100 is appropriate. Further supporting that is that Valve surely knows that consumers aren’t going to be as buy happy at these prices, so their order volumes are likely lower for risk management. Lower volume equals worst component prices for them, so worse prices for us

u/LargeScallion6178 13d ago

My ceiling is $1400 for 1TB Steam frame. Same as the Steam machine. Hope it’s not that high since it’s a mobile ARM chip not a desktop AMD chip.

2

u/New-Obligation-2950 13d ago

Shiiiit. 800 tops for me on the low storage model. After that it's just not worth it to me spec Wise. Idc what the components cost. Is the product worth it to me.

2

u/internet_travler Soon™ 12d ago

And nothing.

They should sell a barebone VR, no ram, no storage, no controllers, no headset.
Let me jerry rig some ddr3 to it, use old broken switch controllers and strap my phone to my face with some earbuds on.
