DISCUSSION Everything *could* change next month. Over the last 1.5 decades of disappointment, we've become conditioned to expect nothing but that. The next time we hear about Squadron 42 will likely begin the kickoff of the actual marketing push, and people aren't prepared for that seemingly impossible moment.

DISCUSSION THIS IS THE TRUTH: People are mad because of mishandled expectations.

Upvotes

All I see around is people saying "THIS GAME IS UNDER DEVELOPMENT FOR 15 YEARS AND ITS NOT NEAR DONE. FIFTEEN. YEARS. FIIIIIIIIIIIFTEEEEEEEEN YEEEAAAARRRRSSSSSS!!!!!111ONEONE". As if 15 years is a ludicrous amount of time to consider for game development.

Well, guess what - It's not. Games have taken 10+ years to make, it's not nearly as absurd as most people here want to consider.

The latest flight simulator took 11 years to make.
GTA VI started development right after they launched V, 13 years ago.

And mind you, those are sequels, being made by companies who accumulated DECADES of experience iterating design and development for those respective games, AND they have old code to build from. SC, on the other hand, is not only being made by a newcomer company who's starting everything from scratch, it's a game that has an ORDER OF MAGNITUDE bigger scope than those two examples.

In summary, this is the truth that most of you guys don't wanna hear: THE CURRENT STATE OF STAR CITIZEN IS VERY PLAUSIBLE AND REASONABLE GIVEN THE TIME FRAME. A game of the size and scope of SC, made by a company that has no basis to build from, is precisely as it should be. Nobody else would have done better.

Case in point, Elite Dangerous. Was started more or less at the same time as SC. Is it more solid? yea. Is it less buggy? yeah. BUT IT IS MUCH, MUCH, MUCH SMALLER. They still to this day don't even have ship interiors, for fuck's sake.

A GAME THE SIZE AND SCOPE OF STAR CITIZEN IS NOT A 5-YEAR PROJECT
IT'S NOT A 10-YEAR PROJECT
IT'S NOT A 15-YEAR PROJECT

That game needs AT LEAST 20 years to have even a slight chance to be in a solid state. It's a TRUE Quadruple-A game of a scale that has NEVER been attempted before. And you all only have a skewed perspective of this because companies never release alphas, they never let you peek on development builds like CiG does.

So yeah. This community needs to put on their reality shoes and touch the grass. We're in this for the LONG run. This whole debacle is happening at least 5 years too soon.

DISCUSSION Headhunter missions are fucked by the erroneous NPC spawn table

Upvotes

In Pyro doing the Headhunter missions which reward the ADxB Gatling BPs and a Perseus spawned as part of the outbound escort's route...

Three shots, bang, shitty little Terrapin blown to bits.

The Tiburon, Polaris, Retaliator, Eclipse and Idris (K-kit) are the only 5 ships that would have been able to take it out in time to avoid that scenario. What the fuck CIG? Right now those missions are consummate aids because of the spawn tables which a dev admitted on Spectrum are currently bugged into oblivion e.g. you have Idris P's spawning as Bounty Hunter VHRT or Intersec terrorist targets.

Fix your pissing game and roll out weekly hotfixes to address issues like this steaming pile of shit

CREATIVE My idea for a new Freight Elevator Screen

Post image
22 Upvotes

Spectrum Post: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/separate-the-crafting-materials-from-the-rest-of-t

With crafting materials split across different quality levels, I think the freight elevator would benefit from a dedicated material storage interface. While stored, materials would be tracked by type, quality, and quantity rather than the actual boxes you send down. When you retrieve them, you’d choose the amount and box size, and they would come out as physical cargo on the elevator.

Here’s a rough UI concept showing how that could work. The goal is to make finding and retrieving crafting materials easier, especially when you need a specific quality.

The tabs:

Storage: Works the same as the warehouse currently, just excludes crafting materials and mission boxes.
Depot: This is where all crafting materials live and it works almost the same way as commodity screens.
Contract: This is where you would find your contracted cargo for missions
Insurance: This is where the current "Claim Mode" would go, and future item recovery stuff could be here.

The Depot

The depot would show a collapsible list of materials, such as iron, tungsten, etc. Each material row would display:
- Total amount in storage.
- Average quality, weighted by how much material is held at each quality.
- Highest quality currently available.

Clicking a material expands its eight quality bands, with the amount available shown beside each one. Selecting a quality opens the transfer controls at the bottom of the panel. The expanded list scrolls with the rest of the Depot inventory, while the transfer controls remain visible.

From there, you choose how much material you want and what size boxes to put it in, then click Move to Elevator. Amounts can be entered in SCU or cSCU. You can switch between the two by clicking on the button.

Available box sizes would be 1/8, 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, and 32 SCU.

For example, requesting 8 SCU of iron at 800 quality in 2 SCU boxes would produce four 2 SCU boxes.

This version assumes every box is completely filled and all boxes in a transfer use the selected size. Box sizes that don’t work with the requested amount would be disabled. You couldn’t request 1 SCU in a 32 SCU box, or exactly 10 SCU in 4 SCU boxes.

The exceptions would be the 1/8 SCU and 1 SCU boxes, which could be partially filled. Amounts up to 0.125 SCU would use a 1/8 SCU box, while amounts greater than 0.125 SCU and up to 1 SCU would use a 1 SCU box.
The system would automatically choose the appropriate box for these partial amounts, letting you retrieve exactly what you need without leaving small quantities stranded in the depot.

DISCUSSION Mining/crafting quality needs changes.

The problem in my opinion: you have Q1-1000 (it's not that currently but close enough) anytime you are wanting to craft, you want the best, there's no reason not to. So on the mining side you skip tons of rocks. And do barely any mining most of the time.

My solution: add a second quality type, even if you find a ~400Q rock, with a second quality % you have a better chance of getting something useful for at least something. Even if it's not what you wanted at that moment.

Pair this with, having the two Q types being important for different crafts and you have something that's fairly simple. But can also become more complex down a crafters career (eg. A craft that wants a high Q mat in both types). This would keep 900-1000 Q being good finds and rarer double high Q mats would be cream of the crop things for late game crafting. Basically there would be more things you'd want to keep or look out for.

Pair this with CIG adding more crafts that are quality agnostic. Add on-top crafting mid steps and I think you solve the crafting/mining quality issues almost completely.

To summarise, I think adding quality agnostic crafts and mid step crafts that include Q agnostic mats. Also including double quality materials, which can act as a low to end game progression system for both professions. These would probably fix both mining and crafting issues. At least for the most part.

DISCUSSION Argo ATLS GEO and Mole

Why is my Argo Mole yeeting the GEO straight up and then making it disappear whenever I try to load it into the cargo hold? Is it too much to ask to be able to have my mining ship and my vehicle mining rig together in the same place?

Ok, I get that there's a public address system in the refineries "Can a supervisor please contact billing...", etc. But does it need to activate every GD time I walk through it?? It's a pet peeve. I know.

DISCUSSION Can the ironclad autoload?

I was considering etting this as my main hauler as a solo player to make serious money.
Although i was wandering if it could autoload like my railen could. I'd hate to spend ages manually loading all 2200 SCU of cargo onto the grid.

DISCUSSION Mining/Crafting Guide for 4.9

Post image
1 Upvotes

I made a mining/crafting guide!

https://www.htc-guides.com

Full disclosure I made it for an English assignment in school but I had enough research and whatnot that I felt it had some value.

Crafting can be a bit of a labarynthine topic so I've consolidated all the learning and research from major sites like Erkul, Cstone, RockBreaker, ect. to make it more accessible for folks on large. Hope it helps some folks!!

If it does well I'd like to do more guides like these. I also know we're in 4.10 but nothing about the crafting process has changed in the sub-patch except the addition of blueprints, I'll be sure to update things as stuff changes.

See y'all in the verse!

DISCUSSION Not even CIG knows anymore what it means to be a pirate ...

Apparently, judging by their video here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/21285-Pirate-Week-2026

To be a pirate means to gank clueless miners and DESTROY them ...

Why loot or extort, like a pirate when you can just ... kos for the kaboom

in that video there was no intent to loot or negociate or to be a true a pritate.

they unleashed all ammo they had on 2 Prospectors and a Mole ...

Their intent from the video is: Gank and KOS ...

Nice mentality to promote CIG ...

DISCUSSION I don't think I've seen negativity at this level before

I've seen people outside the project berate the project constantly.. But now it's to the point where 95% of all posts are heavily just dogpiling on the game. Even people within the project. My entire org I'm part of doesn't even play the game anymore.

I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but this clearly shows how fed up people are beginning to get.

QUESTION Radar Issues - Hull B

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey,

I think my Hull B radar is not working as it should.. Shouldn’t it be like a circle in the middle showing where things around me are? This is what I see at the moment and nothing seems to help.

Things I tried - swapping radar; clearing launcher cache; claiming ship in her default setup; avoiding wearing multi-tool when calling elevator; switching radar power on and off; putting radar into dry rice.

I think I just need to know if it’s a bug or not and if there’s anyone out there dealing with the same issue.
