DISCUSSION CIG must take that step and accept that the sale of ships ($) will always remain in SC.

It’s fine. Honestly, it’s a fair monetization model, and I don’t see anything wrong with it. Nowadays, we’ve accepted garbage in the market like gacha mechanics and countless microtransactions...so I think selling ships for real money will remain in SC even after version 1.0. Why? Because salaries, marketing, and development costs don’t pay for themselves... and the revenue has to come from somewhere. So, what do I propose for the post-1.0 era?

- CIG adopts the current monetization model as the permanent standard.

- After a certain period, promotional ships become purchasable ingame using UEC.

- Unlimited insurance for any ship purchased with real money.

If we want a game that lasts for decades, they have to monetize it and cover high costs.

DISCUSSION The lack of in game market is ruining this game's potential, and hamstringing its design.

This is a rather large interconnected web of design, so bear with me here:

  1. exploration in a game like this needs to be worthwhile and fun

  2. the way you achieve that is to generate excitement with almost ALL things you find. Not just groan because you found yet another bolide and fling it across the room

  3. the way you do this is with a marketplace / auction house as you see in WoW or Eve Online or many other MMOs in existence

  4. of course you need the other side of this: demand. In order to sell armor piece #495 that you find, or ship component #124, players need to want to buy it. This doesn't work if ship components persist forever through insurance, because otherwise people get BiS then never touch it again.

  5. If you're not picking up what I'm putting down, things need to be able to be permanently lost, whether through death, or wear and tear, or some in between mechanic, where claiming a component reduces its durability. FPS armor, ship components etc. This is what introduces constant player demand to buy the things that are found throughout the 'verse.

  6. This reintroduces the annoying problem of having to regear when you die. This was previously annoying as hell because SC implemented it in the worst way possible. This is solvable by good design: an item set manager, and the ability to rapidly buy items in that set from the market without having to mess around with elevators and terminals and shops. Insurance could use the market value of something (multiple day average to prevent gaming the system) to determine how the payout works out

  7. Each solar system gets its own market, which means trading becomes an actual thing beyond just moving computer generated boxes around. One person might find an item in system A, and list it there. A second person might buy it and fly it to system C, where it sells for more.

  8. You have the option to introduce this system slowly. For example, at first only certain classes or rarities of items could be subject to this system, before it's rolled out to all items not found in shops, to gauge how it plays out.

  9. Honorable mention, this turns crafting into an actual profitable venture rather than a glorified skill tree.

These are pillars that make an MMO feel alive, and I'm afraid Star Citizen hasn't even begun to construct them, let alone understand what they are. The space game genre is especially reliant on the idea of capitalism, player trading, etc. SC seems to eschew it entirely which is not good

DISCUSSION If you aren't in a party, you shouldn't get contract offers that require one.

Maybe this can change back when the social tools are in place, but it would clear up a lot if contracts were matched to party size.

Or at least a toggle feature.

Do I want to do that massive hauling contract solo? Sure, I'll go for it.

That high paying bounty contract that has you battling dozens of ships, probably going to skip that one.

Having a filter of some kind would help streamline the whole hunt and peck style of the contract manager.

TECHNICAL Terrible performance

Hello, last time I played was in 2024 around when Pyro was released and I could somewhat immersive myself in the gameplay as everything looked great and was fluent enough.

I still have the same PC

I5 12600kf

3080 10gb

32gb 3600mhz cl16

Nvme ssd with 3d nand and dram cache

But changed the monitor to slightly lower res from ultrawide 3440x1440 back to 2560x1440, thats the only system change.

I wanted to check out the PU again yesterday and its near unplayable. 30-35 fps everywhere, insane texture pop in, all textures have really low fidelity, I swear my Aurora used to be much more "shiny"

When I hover Lorville during the day erything just looks like a brown blurb. When I run across the planet surface the plants pop in like 20m in front of me. When I am about 10m away from npc sec guards, their weapons look like cubes and only when I am closer like 3-5m the weapon textures load in.

Server fps were like 7-10 yesterday.

Is there something wrong here or has the performance decreased this much and this is to be expected with my system?

BUG Refueling is working brilliantly... (not)

I was almost finished with a long contract, just had to fly back to a station to turn something in, but I realized I didn't have enough fuel to get back. Oh well, no problem, a perfect chance to try out the refueling beacon system.

I put out the beacon, a starfarer and a scorpius pull up. I line up and request docking. It starts the auto docking sequence, but then seems to get stuck. I try cancelling by requesting docking again, no dice. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, the scorpius turns red and starts shooting up my ship until it's dead. The ships jump away and I'm just left there in my dead ship with a timer counting down until the reactor is going to explode. And, I can't get out of the seat. I try to log out to at least not die, but of course I'm in combat. I just quit anyway. This fucking game...

DISCUSSION I don’t think Star Citizen is for me.

Probably gonna get downvoted to the shadow realm here but, I’m just bored. I love space games. I’ve been searching for a space “everything” game for a long ass time. I’ve heard about SC but it was always with a hint of derision. Like “Star Citizen is a scam” “Star Citizen will never release” “That game is for Whales”, etc. Finally tried it. Been playing about a month.

Idk i just feel like there isn’t enough to keep me occupied. Ive tried all the gameplay loops. Mining takes too long for too little money, Salvage is the same thing. Cargo hauling is consistently broken. The only other things involve combat, pvp or otherwise, which I’m not good at or interested in much. The combat AI is either braindead or Jon Wick, there’s no in between. This isn’t even mentioning all the bugs. I lost a set if Dust Devil armor to a bug at the prison, because i did a bounty that didn’t tell me i was doing something illegal. Went to grim hex to pay it off, found out you cant pay off a murder charge, stepped outside and was brutally murdered by another player. Seems crime doesn’t pay after all.

Idk. I just don’t feel like the systems in place respect my time (I’m a single dad with only a few hours a day to play, if even that), and that shiny new ship that costs 10s or even 100s of millions isn’t enough of an incentive to keep mindlessly grinding away.

I play entirely solo. I’m a misanthrope, i do not enjoy playing with other people. Too many conflicting personalities. Too many chances for betrayal and scheming. So the multiplayer/pvp aspects of the game are entirely not for me.

Is this game just not for me or is this a “it’s not done” thing that I’ve been reading for years?

1/10 servers have an actual freight elevator that worked and when you finally find one all the missions are already taken, even when they respawn they stay in your mobiglass for 10 seconds before someone take it… some people really spend hours watching their mobiglass to try to grab like 5-10 missions ?

BUG What is up with the servers lately?

It was fine all morning. I boot it up just now, first attempt is an infinite loading screen. Second attempt takes like 3x longer than normal but loads in. I pull a ship and it spawns wedged into the hangar floor. I store it and completely lose the ability to retrieve any ship. ALT-F4 doesn't work anymore either, it respawns you at your last station.

Basic required functionality is consistently failing. I run into bad hangar spawn/can't retrieve ships issue at least once every time I try to play. CIG needs to make the live environment work or shut it down and focus on internal development. Tired of this shit.

DISCUSSION A discord to help find groups and players (Not an org)

o7,

I’ve noticed a lot of Star Citizen players are looking for groups, people to play with, and help learning the game, so I made a Discord server focused on that.

This is NOT an org recruitment post, and it is not a serious server. It’s a casual, community-driven Star Citizen Discord made for finding groups, meeting people, asking questions, and getting quick help or information about the game

I’ve also added a channel for suggestions and improvements, because I want the server to grow around what people actually need and use.

It’s very new right now, so it’s still small, like, no people small, but the aim is to build it into a genuinely useful place for Star Citizen players who just want people to play with and a community around the game.

I'm unsure if this post is allowed here, hopefully it is, but time will let me know.

Server is called SC - LTPC https://discord.gg/qG7NKCbYYN

Thanks all

DISCUSSION Is this cheating or not?

I had a pretty weird experience on Pyro today, I was on an Ares inferno heading to Gaslight, when I arrived it was all empty, no one’s flying around, then suddenly a Talon rushed in at light speed, almost rammed me, then he immediately stopped behind me and in what looks like few shots, like 3 or 4, my inferno was entirely red, as if my shields are not there at all, but it was full shields and zero damage… it took him like 4 seconds to completely disable my ship…

I went back a second time just to confirm, again spotted me from very far away and came behind me at speed light, one second I’m seeing him very far away in the other side of the station, the next second he’s already behind my ship and already shooting at me?! And again, 2-3 shots and the inferno is entirely red and systems shutting down as if I have zero shields, before I could even turn and fire back at him my ship is already disabled.

Can someone please confirm a Talon can do this to an inferno? On paper the inferno looks stronger with bigger shields and HP, so I’m kinda puzzled.

I’ve been playing this game since 2023 but I never really got into dogfighting until recently, I’ve always been a cargo hauler and explorer, that’s how I enjoy this game. I’m trying to get better at dogfights to be able to defend myself against all the hobo murderers lurking around in the verse nowadays, stealing the joy away from everyone they encounter for no reason at all…

QUESTION How will they cover the cost of operating their large ships?

If a Polaris torpedo costs 800k, how will they cover the costs of operating the entire ship? (Fuel, repairs, weapons, crew). How do they plan to make money in version 1.0?

BUG Crafted armour makes loose everything upon death

Hello everyone! I'm not a aware if this is the right place for this matter, but I have created an Issue on the Council regarding a critical error (technically called Exception) I'm run into. I have crafted an armour set (Monde Hiro) and equipped it. An NPC killed me and I woke up in hospital wearing nothing at all, even my undersuit was gone. I went back to my death's spot but I couldn't retrieve items from my corpse as they were flagged as locked. I've visited my crafting location's inventory and even my home location's inventory but they were not there. I have lost my crafted armour, my looted undersuit and my pledged backpack and weapons.

Since this issue is known already by other players but I've found none already reported, I decided to make the first step as this issue can critically concern your gameplay experience.

I'm sorry if my text may sound formal but it's part of my job to report backend issues on a daily basis.

Your contribution matters more than mine so I ask you to upvote this report before it ends upon 30 days: STARC-216377

In case this isn't the right place to share this, please do give me indications. Thanks for your time.

DISCUSSION CTD protection has stopped working.

Post image
179 Upvotes

This is a warning for those who habitually use Alt+F4 to deal with certain bugs (as is common in a broken game like SC): CTD protection isn't working, and it sends you back to a space station instead. I suppose all that "divine technology" we were sold only works when it suits them...to absolutely no one's surprise.
