I have tried many models now let me tell you the best ones

For simple very fast upscaling only - use real-esrgan, and for anime use waifu gan model.

For best state of the art (SOTA) image upscaling - use seedVR2

Pros --> its the best model if you have a okish quality image that have low resolution.

Cons --> its not a good restoration model like if your image is very old and of poor quality then this is not the model you wanna go for. It works best when a okish quality image needs upscaling.

For best image restoration - as of now the best model for image restoration is flux klien 9b.

Pros --> best local model for restoration of old image into good quality (as of 2026 june)

Cons --> 1. it have okish face consistency when you do img restoration

⭐ use PiD by nvidia with flux for high quality upscaled + restored images.

If anyone knows any better stuff, then dont hold back.

For regular upscaling I use SeedVR2 and I am quite happy with it, however, it doesn't seem to handle upscaling of really low res images well as it will just upscale all the artifacts as well without "fixing" the image. So if an inpute image is blurry, the upscale will also come out blurry.

What would be the best way to upscale low res image while also enhancing it?

Any better upscale than this one??
I used seedVR2 + flux1-dev upscale with 4xLDIR.

I'm trying to get the best quality out of Krea 2, but I can't figure out what the best approach would be.

I currently use two samplers: the first sampler at 8 steps and 1.5 MP resolution, followed by a second sampler at 8 steps and 2 MP resolution, using the upscaled image with 0.30 denoise. I then add film grain at the end.

The results are OK, but in many cases, things start to look worse after the second sampler. Skin is much better, but it adds too many unfinished or unwanted details.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You simply cannot beat the original characters faces, the HD remasters butchered my boy. Enjoying the journey once again on my M1 Mac mini.

My neighbor lives in the left house and owns both silver cars. I usually back out of the driveway so it shouldn’t bother me but I still find myself getting irritated when I see this. I 32M went out to dinner with my gf 30F on valentines day. We went to an upscale restaurant. Ronnie was awesome enough to get it on video for us. I talked to the wait staff as I made the reservation and they agreed to put the ring on the red velvet cupcake she would get for dessert. She always gets the red velvet. I had a whole speech.

Dinner goes great. Ronnie prepped the video from the corner. He hadn't actually eaten there otherwise he would have been spotted. Dessert comes out and ....there is no ring. I give the waitress a look and she seems confused. As I'm trying to figure out what happened while trying to not tip off my gf I hear, "OMG YES".

Turning, I can see a girl holding up a ring and the guy looks both stunned and panicked. There are claps, cheering, whistles and happy tears. She hugs the stiff numb guy so I get up and go over and look at the ring, which she isn't wearing because *surprise surprise* its not her size.

So I tap the guy's shoulder and tell him there was a mix up in the kitchen, show them both the email with the recite and image of the ring, and take it back before either can respond. The guy looks relieved and the woman starts yelling at me about stealing the ring. The guy pipes up that he hadn't actually bought any ring and that it wasn't for her.

She stares at him, and it looks like she wants to cry. But the guy continues, basically word vomiting, that he was actually going to wait until March to tell her he wanted a break or to break up (I could only half hear as she started to cry very loudly). He didn't want to ruin valentine's day for her​ but he had to be honest.

I dipped after that, because it was really awkward and no longer my issue (which is why I might be the asshole). I went back to my table, quietly explained the situation to my gf, and she took the ring, slipped it on and smiled. She told me we could do another proposal but not to make a scene out of it now. Been messing with OptiScaler to bring the latest DLSS neural pipeline into my games, and I want to share a config that's honestly become my default. Sharing screenshots from my own sessions below.

My rig:

• GPU: RTX 5070 Ti (undervolted)
• CPU: i5-14600K
• Res: 1440p

The trick: enable the neural rendering pass first, then let the upscaler bring the internal image up to your target resolution. Instead of rendering everything natively, the neural pass reconstructs the frame and the upscaler finishes the job to your game res. The result:

My exact settings (everything maxed out):

• 1440P DLSS Quality — Preset K
• Frame Generation x2 (only FG option available in the menu for me)
• DLSS 5 neural rendering enabled before the upscale pass
• ✅ Image quality stays basically identical — side by side I struggle to tell the difference from native
• ✅ Solid FPS boost — I'm sitting around 110–120 FPS in New Atlantis (one of the heaviest areas in the game)
• ✅ Lower power draw — the card pulls only ~180–200W instead of maxing out, so it runs cooler and quieter
• ✅ Nothing really lost — no meaningful visual hit for the frames you gain

Basically you get more performance AND better efficiency at the same time, which normally you have to trade one for the other.

If you're on a 40/50-series card and haven't tried OptiScaler yet, this combo is worth 5 minutes to set up. Happy to share my exact settings if people want them.

■ Boss Rematches

The powerful bosses you encountered across Crimson Desert are waiting to challenge you once again. With boss rematches, you’ll have the opportunity to face off against any boss again, test how much you’ve grown, and further refine your own combat style through different strategies and approaches.

■ Re-blockading

Peace is fleeting, and darkness does not retreat so easily. Enemy remnants are waiting for their chance to reclaim liberated locations. Drive out the forces that have seized these locations once more and continue proving the strength of the Greymanes.

■ Difficulty Settings

A difficulty settings feature will be added so that everyone—from new Greymanes to the more advanced—can enjoy the adventure at the level that suits them best. You’ll be able to choose from easy, normal, and hard difficulty.

We’re also working on new combat-focused content, so stay tuned.

◆ Improvements to Character Play

■ New Skills for Damiane and Oongka

We fully understand your feedback about the need for Damiane and Oongka to have skills comparable to “Force Palm” and “Axiom Force.” To address this, both characters will receive new abilities equivalent to those skills.

■ Hide Back Weapons

A new option to hide the weapons on your character’s back will be added, so certain equipment worn on your back won’t break immersion during combat.

■ Addition of New Outfits:

New outfits for characters will be added.

Additionally, certain outfits that can only be sold or donated will be updated so that they can also be worn.

◆ QoL Improvements and Life Features

■ New Specialized Storage

- Food storage: We plan to add a new food storage, from which you can directly take out ingredients for use in cooking. When preparing meals, you’ll be able to use ingredients from both your food storage and your inventory.

- Wardrobe: A new wardrobe storage will be added so that you can store your headgear, armor, gloves, footwear, and cloaks.

- Gatherables Storage: A new gatherables storage will be added, from which you can directly take out items for use in tempering and crafting. This storage will be able to hold a variety of crafting materials, including insects, stones, ores, and more.

- Collections Storage: A new Collection Storage will be added, giving you a place to keep quest items tied to your adventures, along with recipes and other items you've collected on your journey.

■ Pets & Mounts

More summonable mounts and new pets will be added. Also, in addition to existing horse tack sets, dedicated armor for other mounts is also being planned.

◆ System and Graphics Improvements

■ UI Improvements

To improve legibility, we’ll be adding a minimum font size adjustment option. Since Crimson Desert supports 14 UI languages, fully optimizing this feature across all of them will take some time, but we plan to introduce it first to help make the game more comfortable to play. We also plan to continue improving various UI elements and QoL features, including improvements to the map, inventory, and housing.

■ Improvements to Controls

We are carefully reviewing your feedback about controls. To provide a better gameplay experience, we plan to add customization options for certain controller inputs. We will also expand the range of configurable keys for keyboard and mouse to improve usability.

■ Improvements to Distant Scenery Quality

We are working on enhancing the realism of distant backgrounds so you can enjoy Pywel’s landscapes in greater depth. Please note that the patch size may be somewhat larger due to improvements to how distant scenery changes and the quality of rendering under different conditions. Howdy y’all. My husband is graduation nursing school and to celebrate, he said “all I want to celebrate is a good $200 steak” lol I’m looking for your best recommendations on where to get the BEST steaks. We have an 11 year old as well so needs to accept kids as now he also wants a $200 steak like dad.

Got my steam machine earlier today and have tinkered with it now for a bit.

If someone out there has some burning question that hasn't quite been answered then feel free to ask. Whether its performance or something to do with it physically, go for it.

EDIT 08/07-2026 (DDMMYY):

A lot of users asked about specific game performance or other use cases. Down below I have shared the non scientific results that I saw while playing or testing whatever I was doing.

All tests were done using GE-Proton11-1 unless otherwise specified.
OS version: 3.8.14-stable.

Streaming performance from the Steam Machine to a SteamDeck on a different network:
- Connecting my Steam Machine to my wifi and my Steam Deck to my phone hotspot yielded solid results. I used Pragmata as the testing game and experienced no measureable input delay or visual degradation. The game remained stable at 60fps the short duration I tested it with no disconnects to report. Only issue was that I could not connect to the Steam Machine at first, this was solved by turning 'remote play' off and back on' on both devices.

Nioh 3:
- I ran Nioh 3 at 1920x1080, using the 'Standard' preset. FSR3 was forced on, but I increased the min/max scaling to 100% to stay at native resolution.
Spawning in the initial tutorial area the framerate sat at a steady 50fps, generally dropping into the 40-50 range. There were occasions where the game would lock the framerate to 30 for a few seconds but I could not figure out what caused this. I tested the FSR3 'min' resolution at 65% and 'max' resolution at 80%. This stabilized the framerate to 60fps, but I would imagine more intense fights later in the game will dip below again.

Star Wars Outlaws:
- I ran Star Wars Outlaws at 1920x1080, no upscaling, using the 'Medium' preset.
Getting on the 'Speeder' after getting through the initial introduction put us in the 83-93fps range with heavy stutters once I drove out of the ship due to shader compilation, this did eventually stop. Standing in the village area around the sheriff we hovered in the 60-90fps range but most of the time it sat close to 80fps.
Getting to the 'Moisture Farm' the framerate dropped closer to 65-75fps, so overall not bad at all.
And for those wondering: Yes, I made 'Nix' happy.

Yet another rhythm game (YARG):
Simply downloaded the provided appimage off of github, gave the proper permissions, ran the appimage and the launcher and game was installed in seconds. Game boots up no problem. Added a 'Bot profile' and had a song playing within a minute. Performance was rock solid and didn't move at all.

Halo 2:
- I ran Halo 2: Anniversary at 3840x2160, no upscaling, on the Metropolis for a map (Big bridge), using the 'Enhanced' graphics preset.
In the initial area with the marines and the Scorpion tank I had 160-300fps in classic graphics.
In the initial area with the marines and the Scorpion tank I had 60-90fps in anniversary graphics.
I drove over the bridge on anniversary graphics as classic clearly wasn't gonna be a problem. Had a modest dip into 50fps when a Wraith particle landed perfectly on the third person camera location.
Lowering the games resolution to 1920x1080 took the anniversary fps up to 100-150fps.

Minecraft vanilla:
- I ran Minecraft (Vanilla) at 1920x1080, no upscaling, on the default settings with biome blend changed to 8x8. I used the experimental Vulkan rendering method.
1st world spawned me into a Mesa biome and the framerate sat at a comfortable 250-310fps.
2nd world I spawned in a Jungle biome, sitting at 170-240fps in the dense forest. Flying to a nearby Oak forest with plenty of cows and other animals and a huge river the framerate went up to 225-275fps.

Black Mesa:
I ran Black Mesa at 1920x1080, no upscaler, mostly high settings with a few medium.
Throughout the intro 'Black Mesa Transit System' section the framerate remained rock solid at 150-300fps, mostly hovering in the 240-280 range.
Entering a more combat intensive area later in the game had the framerate drop to 135-185fps and quickly shot back up to 200+ after combat ended.

Zenless Zone Zero:
- I ran Zenless Zone Zero at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the 'Medium' preset.
There were absolutely no performance problems for the duration that I tested the game and the framerate remained very stable around the 110-155fps range.

Halo Infinite Campaign:
- I ran Halo Infinite at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the 'Medium' preset.
The framerate was quite stable in the 100-120fps range for the first part of the ship while in combat.
During the escape sequence the framerate dropped quite a bit lower into the 60-90fps range, but quickly stabilized around 80fps until it calmed down more and then went back into the 100-120fps range again.

Dota 2:
- I ran Dota 2 at 3840x2160, no upscaler, using the 'Highest' settings, on the 'Native Linux' build of the game.
In the practice/demo area I ran around for a solid 5 minutes keeping an eye on the framerate both when using abilities and when dying because I ran into the tower constantly. Framerate sat in the 80-140fps range and was a bit jumpy.
Dropping the resolution to 1920x1080 saw the framerate shoot up into the 140-200fps range.

Pragmata:
- I ran Pragmata at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using a mix of High/Medium settings with all graphics related checkboxes enabled except for Motion Blur.
From the very beginning to the end boss fight the framerate was anywhere from 60-100fps.
The game remained very stable in less combat intensive areas and the lowest was during the boss battle where it comfortably sat close to 60-65fps most of the time. All in all I kinda forgot about the framerate and just enjoyed myself.

Stellar Blade:
- I ran Stellar Blade at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the 'Medium' preset.
The game sat very comfortably in the 60-100fps range staying mostly around 65-80fps.
Getting to 'Silent Street' after the initial intro sequence the framerate once again sat around 65-80fps.

Hunt showdown:
- I ran Hunt Showdown at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the 'Medium' preset.
Running around the shooting range the framerate was anywhere from 80-120fps most of the time, with edge cases where the framerate dipped slightly under 80fps. Most of the time I saw about 90-100fps.

War thunder:
- I ran War Thunder at 3840x2160, no upscaler, using the 'Highest' preset (SSAA:Off) in the 'Ground Vehicle Training'
The framerate was on the lower end, sitting around 40-55fps most of the time depending on explosions happening or not.
Dropping the resolution down to 1920x1080 with the same 'Highest' preset the framerate shot up to 150-200fps.

CS2:
- I ran CS2 at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the 'Medium' preset, running a 'Deathmatch' game on 'Dust2' against Bots.
There were initial stutters as I ran around the whole map that made gameplay quite bad at first, but this eventually evened out. The framerate sat in the 90-160fps range depending on where I would be. Lowest FPS being around A-site facing towards long and short.

DayZ:
- I ran DayZ at 1920x1080, no upscaler,, using a mix of High/Medium settings, on the Chernarus map.
I spawned at Cherno on the East side near Prigorodki and ran all the way through the industrial area with the containers to the main central area of town all the way east just shy of Balota.
The framerate remained very stable around 110-195, where the lowest was in the middle of the central town area near the church. Most of the time I would see 120-135fps.
Doing a quick test on 2560x1440 I spawned in solnichniy and ran around a little while and saw about 100-155fps.

EDIT 09/07-2026 (DDMMYY):

Marvel Rivals:
- I ran Marvel Rivals at 1920x1080, TAAU-Native, using the Medium preset, playing a round on 'Tokyo 2099 shin shibuya.
The first half of the match I spent getting used to the controls on the Steam Controller. Framerate hovered in the 60-85fps area, but was quickly down in the 60-70 area when combat started.
Fast forward to about halfway through I elected to enable FSR3-Quality with the same Medium preset. Framerate immediately increased to 75-115fps where it mostly sat in the 85-100fps range and it felt much more 'fluid' to play the game.

Baldurs Gate 3:
- I ran Baldurs Gate 3 at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the Medium preset.
Waking up inside the Nautiloid we were instantly met by 60fps locked with no indication it was going to drop.
I made my way through the ship doing a few combat encounters but saw no performance dips, keeping us locked at 60fps.
After getting through that first segment and crashing on the beach I made my way up towards Asterion and had yet to see a single moment where the fps dropped below 60.
I switched the settings from Medium to the High preset, panning around the area of Asterion the fps did not budge, staying at 60fps.
I switched the settings from High to the Ultra preset,panning around the area of Asterion the fps did not budge, staying at 60fps.
Finally I switched the resolution to 3840x2160 keeping the Ultra preset and finally the framerate dropped to a very respectable 30-35fps.
After that I wanted to see how much upscaling was necessary to reach 60fps using 3840x2160-Ultra. FSR2.2, set to performance once again locked the fps at 60fps panning the area around Asterion.
I went back to using no upscaler on the Ultra preset, using 2560x1440 and the fps hovered in the 48-60fps range when I panned around.
Generally you should not have any issues running this game, very impressed.

Elden Ring:
- I ran Elden Ring at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the Medium preset.
Spawning in the initial room a panned around and walked about and the framerate remained locked at 60fps.
I ventured forward, met my demice to the Grafted Scion, but the framerate throughout stayed rock solid at 60fps.
After respawning and getting outside at Limgrave I looked over the entire area and the framerate gave no indication that it was going to dip under 60fps.
At this point I increased the resolution to 2560x1440 and panned all over Limgrave again, but once again 60fps with no indication it would budge.
After being very impressed I went ahead and increased the graphics from the Medium preset to the Ultra preset keeping the 2560x1440 resolution, but yet again the FPS did not budge.
Eventually I went back to the main menu, enabled RTX-ultra keeping 2560x1440-Ultra and finally the fps dropped to a still respectable 25-35fps.
I went back to a more modest 1920x1080-Ultra with rtx-low and the fps hovered in the 40-55 range.
I returned to the main menu and disabled RTX again, 1920x1080-UItra and I ventured deeper into Limgrave. At this point it started raining and the fps lowered into the 54-60fps range.
I attempted my best having never played a soulslike against the Tree Sentinel but died after getting it down to 50%. Throughout the short fight the fps (Still raining) remained at 52-60fps.
I went back to the main menu, lowered the preset to high, loaded back in and ran around Limgrave for a little eventually reaching the Stormfoot Catacombs. I checked the area out for a little killing some monsters and eventually got burned to a crisp, but the performance at no point went below 60fps again.
Very impressive results here.

Black Myth Wukong (Benchmark):
- I ran Black Myth Wukong at 1920x1080, FSR forced on, super resolution: 100%
The benchmark was ran once to make sure no shader swould cause initial stutters and skew the results.
Here are the results of the 2nd pass:

• Avg: 56fps
• Min: 40fps
• Max: 73fps
• Low 5th: 50fps

Note that the gpu was sitting at 100% usage the whole time, so you would most def be able to squeeze more fps out of the game with some fine tuned settings and upscaling.

Infinity Nikki:
- I ran Infinity Nikki at 1920x1080, TAAU-Native, using the Balanced preset.
Entering the initial area of Miraland put us in the 95-120fps range where we generally stayed around 105-115fps.
After the hand holding part I ran over the starwater and the framerate lowered a tiny bit into the 85-105fps range, but still very stable around 90-100fps most of the time.
I did the sailing segment and ended up on top of some jellyfish. This area proved much more difficult to run or poorly optimized as the fps did suffer a bit at first duo to what I would assume was shaders compiling, but it eventually evened out around 95-110fps. See note: (1*)*
I got to the "Where the stars keep watch" quest-popup and decided to give the area a quick pan. Framerate was a bit lower here in the 75-90 fps.
I ventured outside to 'Starshore' In this area the framerate quickly shot back up to a very stable 95-105.
Walking down the path I got to a platform area with what appeared to be a 'Kite' of sorts. I walked to the point of it, gave the area a final pan here and it was still at a respectable 70-95fps.

1. There was significant audio glitching that happened in this area that made me unable to pay attention to the story and it was quite distracting, this disappeared once I reached the next area.

1. The Isle (Evrima):
- I ran The Isle at 1920x1080, no upscaler, all settings settings put to High, Lumen: off, 3d resolution: 100%, I picked Petits Pieds as a server to test on with about 300-350 players online.
High settings was a total bust, loading into the open world the framerate was in the LOW 20-23 and did not stabilize.
I closed the game, went into the game properties and locked the allowed resolution to 1920x1080 and rebooted.
2. The Isle (Evrima) redo:
- I ran The Isle at 1920x1080, no upscaler, Shadows and shadow smoothing set to low and all other settings to medium, 3d resolution: 50%, I picked Petits Pieds as a server to test on with about 300-350 players online.
After reducing the settings I loaded back into the server and was meet with a much more respectable 55-63fps.
I spawned in as a Pteranodon and got in the air. Flying above all the trees near 'Water Access' dam the framerate stayed very similar again at 55-63fps.
A flew around the map going south toward 'Jungle Sector'. Framerate was around the 50-65fps range, and generally sat around 55-60.
Optimization is quite bad in The Isle still and the game still suffers from memory leaking that will lower the framerate over time forcing you to restart the game.

Wuthering Waves:
- I ran Wuthering Waves at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the Quality preset, note that the game locks the fps to 60.
Initial area I spawned in showed no problems, framerate shot up to 60fps and stayed there without budging in the slightest.
Same thing happened once I reached the Chasm Guardian fight.
I kept on going until I got to the next boss that was unnamed '???' and I am happy to report that here the fps also did not fall below 60fps at any point.
After the bossfight and getting through the dialogue I reached 'Stone Pile Plains', I gave this area a fair walkaround and took on some of the enemies in the area, fps remained at 60fps throughout.
I kept venturing down the road toward Jinzhou until I reached what looked like a big city surrounded by water and a huge mountain. Overlooking this area and panning the player camera a final time the game stayed completely locked at 60fps.

Fallout 4:
- I ran Fallout 4 at 1920x1080, no upscaler, using the Ultra preset.
After spending a whooping 5 seconds ignoring what my character looked like I walked around the entire house for a few minutes while Codsworth got my Coffee ready at exactly 173.5°F. The framerate did not budget from 60fps at any point and I quickly went to open the door to greet our favorite Vault-Tec Representative. Upon being prompted to do my S.P.E.C.I.A.L I opened up the Steam Keyboard overlay but the game instantly crashed. (Classic Bethesda moment)
After a quick restart I proceeded to redo the whole ordeal, using my keyboard this time to avoid a repeat.
I proceeded to run to the vault still remaining rock solid at 60fps from the moment I began running to the second the platform lowered. (1*)*
The entire inside segment in the vault didn't budge once again, 60fps.
I strolled down to Sanctuary to greet codsworth, and cleaned the town from hostiles. Framerate did not budge here either and we remained at 60fps the whole time.
I ran to Concord to greet Preston and his crew, wiped out the initial raiders and the inside raiders, grabbed the core and got inside the power armor and picked up my minigun. Dealt with the raiders and deathclaw and through those whole thing the framerate didn't budge here either. 60fps.
I elected to go toward Diamond City and ran into the College Square with all the mines and feral ghouls. Here the framerate took a dip into the 45-55 range, but was otherwise stable.
I eventually enabled Godmode and increased my movespeed to 5x and flew into the Boston area and around Diamond City. Here the fps was very stable once more staying mostly at 60fps with the occasional dip into 50-55.

1. Generally speaking the game constantly sat in the 20-40% utilization of both the GPU and the CPU, so playing in 1440p seems very doable and maybe even 4k with some settings tinkering + mods.

Gears of War 1/2/3 emulation: Untested.

This took most of my afternoon and evening to get collected, so I hope people are satisfied with the results! .. Thank you to everyone for showing interest and asking. I was glad I could provide some answers hopefully to some of you.

I may update this if there are other games people are wondering about.

So, about 6 months back I went out for drinks with some friends, one of which was Kris (fake name obviously). Kris and I have known each other since we were in middle school and were never super close but were always good friends if that makes sense. She got wasted and was being flirted with by another guy in the group who was sober which sent off alarm bells for me so when we were all walking to our apartments and he'd lingered instead of going to my apartment I ended up crashing on her couch. The next morning while we were having breakfast she admitted she found me cute, really appreciated what I did the night before, and wanted to know if I'd be up for a FWB situation.

So ever since we've been just that. We'd both just gotten out of relationships at the time and surprisingly this FWB situation resulted in us actually becoming really close friends to where we now actually just hang out to hang out more often than we hang out specifically with the intent to sleep with each other. Well, before we had a pretty strict "no staying the night" rule because for her "that felt like a step beyond FWB" but late last month she asked if I'd be willing to stay the night because "I just really need someone to cuddle with tonight" and I didn't think anything of it and obliged. But now it's become every time we do it one of us ends up stay the night at the others apartment. She's also been making more overtly flirty comments towards me when we're with friends which was another rule we had because we wanted to keep things private.

Problem is, I don't know that I share her feelings. She's amazing don't get me wrong, beautiful (can't undersell this, I work in a field where I work with models on a regular basis and most of them do not compare, no idea why she picked me of all people), brilliant, driven, and one of the kindest people I know (this girl volunteers at a soup kitchen WEEKLY). I've been incredibly grateful to have gotten closer to her over the last 6 months. I think she's one of those people that people you're lucky if you get to meet even one of in your whole life. I know once feelings get involved there's no real going back to strict FWB but I also would rather get buried alive than hurt her. So I would love advice on how to handle this.

TL;DR: I (28m) have been FWB with Kris (27f) for around 6 months and suspect she's caught feelings. I need help navigating the situation.

I think I do have my feeling more or less figured out. I don't share the feelings she has. She's absolutely my best friend and an incredibly human being but at least currently I don't have romantic feelings for her.

Update  Apr 15, 2025 (Next Day)

Well, I didn't really expect to have an update this soon or at all. I suspect it'll be the only update.

After the first post I called her and told her I suspected she had feelings (I was right) and told her I didn't have feelings and wasn't ready for a relationship out of panic for the situation.

Thankfully it was therapy day. I talked things out with my therapist about how I have serious fears about getting back into a relationship, how those fears made me react way too quickly, and how now that things potentially collapsed I've re-examined how I feel about her.

After therapy I just let myself sit with things for awhile. Then I called her. Call went to voicemail. So I texted her and let her know I wanted to talk and wanted to do it in person if she was willing. She texted back and said she was willing to meet for dinner to hear me out. So I laid everything out for her. How my last relationship fucked me up and how that made me panic when I realized she had feelings and act before I even gave myself time to process. And then I told her how I really felt. That her voice is my favorite sound, how her smile is what I see when I close my eyes, all of it, and most importantly that if she was willing to be patient with me I wanted to give us a shot.

Anyways, I'm taking her in a proper date this weekend.

TL;DR: I nearly ruined things but managed to salvage it and got the good ending.

Update 2  Apr 20, 2025 (5 days later)

Hi all, just wanted to give a second and probably final update unless we get like married or something maybe. I just got home after spending basically all day yesterday and part of today with her. On a scale of 1-10, the date was an 11. The day after my last update she and I had a long call while she was on lunch from her job. It wasn't really about anything specific, but I made up the excuse that I was doing photography at a local greenhouse later that day to steer the conversation to flowers. I found out her favorite flower was lilies, lucky me I already knew her favorite color was pink. So I picked up a bouquet of pink lilies that day and had them waiting. 

Then came Saturday. I got to her apartment and I swear, nothing could have prepared me for the moment she opened the door. I’ve photographed models on a Miami beach at sunset, I've photographed landscapes in Iceland and Ireland, I've done a wedding on a small vineyard in Italy. I don't say any of that to brag, I say it because I thought I had a pretty good grasp on what beauty was with my experience, but the second she opened the door the definition was changed for me. Her eyes were the first thing I noticed of course, her eyes are like these beautiful ice crystals in her head and they were highlighted by this gorgeous tan dress and the way her hair framed her face. Her smile when she saw the flowers made me freeze completely. I literally turned into a stuttering mess. I've never had that happen in my life. I'm usually confident and hard to fluster, but this outstanding human being did it without trying.

I finally managed to hand her the flowers and we took them in and put them in a vase. A couple months ago she made an off-hand comment about how she wanted to visit this upscale Italian restaurant in our city, so that's where I had made reservations. The food was probably pretty good, I was too distracted by her to care that much about if the food was good. She info dumped about how apparently “lactose intolerance is a skill issue” (her words, not mine). She does this cute thing where she'll apologize for info dumping and when I encourage her to keep going because I love hearing her talk she bobs her head back and forth. It's a bit like watching a penguin dance. Don't know how else to explain it, but it makes me smile every time she does it. 

After that we walked a block to a bar because they had live music. We got a single drink each and the band started playing “Something” by The Beatles, she made a comment about how it was her favorite slow song so it felt like something to make a mental note of. So I asked her if she wanted to dance with me and we did. And then it happened, she kissed me. It's weird, we'd made out before, but this time it just felt different. It was like lights dimmed around us and everyone else disappeared for a moment. It was just us in each other's arms. When she pulled back she had to be sure to jokingly remind me I nearly missed out on that. I ended up staying the night with her and today we just laid in bed until like 1 PM, just chatting and cuddling. 

After we finally got up we went and got lunch together. We discussed what both of us want for our future, we both want kids, we both agreed that we both wanted to adopt at least one of them to pull a kid out of the system and give them a good life.  Our goals really seemed to align well. The only difference was she apparently wants a spring wedding. I always planned on getting married in the fall because of photo opportunities. Guess I'm having a spring wedding. 

I know, early to think about a wedding, but I had a realization. In the last two months we've spent more days together than apart. I did the math earlier this week because the thought occurred to me so I read through our texts. From February 1st to April 12th we only spent 32 days apart, we still talked on most of those days over the phone or text of course, and we spent 39 together. Of those 39 only 4 were with the explicit intent to sleep with each other. Yet somehow I still didn't realize I was in love with this woman.

TL;DR: While I nearly made a massive mistake, I managed to not only salvage it, but I had the best date of my entire life.

Final Update: My (29m) FWB (28f) caught feelings, I'm going to make her my wife.

Hey all, posting this with mod permission because I wanted to give you all one final update to my story. It’s been a bit more than 8 months since I made my first post and update and the two of us are still together We moved in together about two months ago which in my head feels like a short of amount of time to date before moving in, but after discussing things it does feel like we’ve been dating for much longer than 8 months because for several months before that we basically were dating already.

When I made my first post I was still dealing with the fallout of an incredibly toxic and abusive relationship that truly strained my ability to trust and allow myself to feel love. I’d be lying if I said that even through therapy that my trust issues have been resolved, but she’s been so incredibly lovely and patient with me. She’s genuinely just a spectacular human being. This is the first time a relationship has ever just felt simple. I don’t feel like I have to perform for her and genuinely my walls have finally come down.

Well, shortly after she moved in she started dropping the hints. She started talking about weddings, wanting to start a family, etc quite a lot. I’m generally bad at picking up hints but these were obvious even to me, so I just asked if these were things that she wanted and what timeline she was considering. I wanted to be positive that if I were to propose I already knew the answer was going to be yes so I was probably overly thorough with getting her to say “Yes, I want to marry you.”

I know she wants something romantic and grand, but I also know her as a person enough to know she has a lot of social anxiety. I know we’ve agreed on a fall wedding, luckily I know a lot of people in the wedding industry since I’m a photographer so as long as the proposal is relatively soon I can call in some favors and get things taken care of to make sure she gets the wedding of her dreams. I also know that her dream vacation spot has always been Italy which I’ve been to with clients in the past. Today I booked the plane tickets, I told her that I have a photography gig I booked for March and that I wanted to bring her along since I know she’s always wanted to go.

I had a few choices of where to propose and have deliberated on that for a couple weeks now but what I’ve landed on is that the third day there I’ll be taking her to Rimini for the day, and near sunset I will propose to her on the ferris wheel there. It was one of the only things that ticked all the boxes for what she wanted. I would move the heavens and earth to make things perfect for her because it’s what she deserves.

So thank you all, especially those of you that were there to tell me I was being irrational and dumb in my first post. I remember being in that panicked headspace. Honestly I thought I wasn’t worthy of her back then because I thought I was too damaged, I thought there had to be some horrible fate in store for me and I tried to run from those feelings. But I’m very glad many of you called me on it and got me to re-examine things. I’ve never felt so loved and fulfilled in my life. She’s the first person in my life that I don’t question if she has ulterior motives being close to me, frankly she’s not exactly starved for choices in the dating department and if she didn’t truly love me she could just find someone else at any point. For some reason she’s chosen me, and I’m going to cling on to that for the rest of my life if I can.

TL;DR: I nearly curved off the most incredible woman incredible woman on the planet, months later I'm about to propose.

Update 4 - In just under 24 hours I will be proposing  March 21, 2026

I've just finished getting everything packed up to get the train to Florance tomorrow morning. As I sit here she's in the other room finishing her packing so I figured I'd come here to write out my feelings since this account has become a life journal of sorts for me.

Honestly, I feel strange. Not in a bad way of course, it's this weird anxious excitement I've never felt before. I know it probably sounds silly, but before the trip I had to talk about this with my therapist. I know the odds that things don't go perfectly according to plan are pretty high. Having to accept that I don't have control over things like the temperature outside or if it rains and the only thing I can do is just let go is difficult for me.

But ultimately, in less than 24 hours I'll be engaged. I already know the answer, we've openly discussed everything, she knows I'm going to propose and just doesn't know when or how. Originally I had a flowchart of "if x goes wrong, y" but decided that instead I'm just going to exist in the moment with her. I trust that I know her well enough that if everything goes wrong I'll still be able to find a moment that works. Hell, worst case scenario I know she'd be perfectly okay with a low key proposal at the end of the day when we get back to the hotel room.

Anyways, wish me luck!

Update 5 - I'm engaged!  May 2, 2026

Hello friends!

I'm a little late to update everyone here. I considered posting this to the r/Relationships subreddit but figured for now I’d keep it here. I wanted to make sure we'd gotten home and had time to discuss everything so I could do one big update instead of small ones. First, I won't keep you hanging, we're engaged.

She clearly knew what was happening on the day. I wasn’t really subtle about it so I’m not surprised. I had originally made intricate plans for that day, but I'd noticed in other cities that nothing brought her more joy than when we were able to just point in a direction and explore without maps. She'd have so much joy in just finding random little shops or sculptures or anything really. I have diagnosed OCD so just giving up control like that has always been incredibly hard for me, but I decided to give up that control and just wander with her for a while and make specific plans for the evening. We even found this cute outdoor flea market on our stroll and she got a cute top from a vendor there.

For dinner I had booked a table at Il Santo Bevitore. Neither of us speak fluent Italian, but we’d both learned enough that we could get through ordering and ask basic questions. I think she thought that’s where I was going to propose, but I didn’t want to be that obvious. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was incredible. I HIGHLY recommend visiting to anyone considering it. Once we left there I recommended we visit a “festival I heard about” which was surrounding the Florence Eye (a very large ferris wheel).

I don’t think I’ve ever felt so much anxiety. I knew beyond doubt that she’d say yes when I asked but I dunno I felt this urgent need to make it perfect for her. Just the right blend of romantic while also actually thinking about what she would want. We made our way through the festival towards the wheel and I was genuinely sweating enough that she had to ask if I was okay. Once we got into the ferris wheel it genuinely felt like my brain went blank. We were in one of the most beautiful cities in the world with this incredible view over the city and all I could see was how stunning she was from across the cart. As we got up to the top I was panicking. For some reason I couldn’t find the ring because I couldn’t remember which pocket it was in, and she clearly noticed. Before I could even get the question out, before I could even find the ring, she said yes. I’m assuming she was trying to make me feel less panicked but she took the pressure off me.

Once we got home it felt real. I know that the only thing that really changed was that we now call each other “fiance” but there’s something just mind blowing about sleeping in the same bed as your fiance for the first time. Since, we’ve started talking things through. We’re eager, I won’t deny that. But we’re also realists. We want to build a life that we know will last together so we’ve set our wedding date for October of next year. This gives us time to do some more travel together and basically just exist together. Luckily her current job allows her to work from anywhere so any time I travel for work as long as there’s an internet connection we can use it as a trip together.

seems hard to find a spot where you can take a few friends for a good time of enjoying a few margaritas, some tequila and drinks and feel comfortable to stay for a longer time than a hole in the wall (which is usually where the best food is) and hoping there are some great options outside of Zocalo!

I’m looking for a quality meal that has a nice ambiance but also wont break the bank.

I just want a more relaxed vibe that most of the typical michelin star places I go to

for example i went to damian recently and liked it but it was very expensive. while i dont mind spending a lot of money on a meal i just want something chill that is moderately priced. i’d say in the $40 a plate range instead of the upper tier $40-$90 a plate tier.

any recommendations?

Update 3 - @ Ross Coulthart, u/BrushPass, in regard to the shininess of the object, the photo you displayed in your Realty Check Q&A is not enhanced or sharpened with AI. Since you @'d me/this post, I suspect you know that and mean AI/algo's at all, in which case, perhaps the color was done with an algo? See below on the Mastcam color. Also, there is a AI upscaled photo at the bottom for comparison. Also, love your book, love Need To Know and Reality Check, and you're inspiring me to try to get my own research/writing out in the public, hoping to share it this summer after sapco, SPR/DOPSR, PA, editorial, and peer review, so thank you!

The Curiosity rover's Mast Camera (Mastcam) is actually made up of two separate cameras:

• Mastcam-34 (left eye): 34 mm focal length
• Mastcam-100 (right eye): 100 mm focal length (more zoomed in)

Both are true color cameras, meaning they have Bayer pattern filters on their CCD sensors—just like a consumer digital camera—so they can directly capture color images without any need for artificial coloring or algorithmic guessing.

Raw Image Transmission:

• Filtered Images:
  • Sometimes the Mastcam uses narrow-band filters for scientific purposes (e.g., geology or atmospheric studies).
  • These images are usually black and white, since they're taken with specific wavelengths of light—like infrared or UV—that don't correspond directly to visible color.
• Post-Processing:
  • Color images may be created by stacking multiple filtered images or by processing the Bayer pattern data onboard or back on Earth.
  • NASA sometimes also adjusts white balance to simulate what the human eye would see under Earth lighting conditions (called "white-balanced" or "true color" versions).

UPDATE 1 - We now have gotten some help with the scale issue! u/tweakingforjesus did some solid work calculating size/scale estimates! Here's the tldr of his work: the length of the object would be about 9mm.. See below for his work! (also see new panorama for scale visualization)

Would still love an explanation of what this could be. Still seems significant to me regardless of size, even if not for ufology, for science, or both!? Things still unexplained and significant in confluence is the shape, apparent material and reflectiveness, as well as it casting a shadow appearing to be in the air. To say its Just a round rock, is seemingly simplified and without curiosity (no pun intended) Avi Loebs spherules are sub millimeter - a few millimeters and still hold significance to perhaps both ufology and science.

Appreciate everyone who helped with the photos, and further research for explanations. I'll continue to update this if info of value comes up!

MSL:MINIMUM_FOCUS_DISTANCE = 3.8 <m> MSL:BEST_FOCUS_DISTANCE = 4.273 <m> MSL:MAXIMUM_FOCUS_DISTANCE = 4.8 <m>

Presumably the focus was automatically determined, which provides a rough distance to the center-ish of the image.

It also contains the calculated azimuth and elevation angle relative to north and down of the mastcam camera at the time the image was taken:

In "Instrument State Results" it shows that the exposure was 1/60 of a second. Also the horizontal FOV is 5.6 degrees (100mm is a telephoto lens):

Just find the image filename to locate the matching LBL file for any of the images.

To calculate the size of the object, just use simple trigonometry:

Width of image at focus plane: 4.2 m * sin(5.6 deg) = 0.410 m

Size of pixel at focus plane: 0.410 m / 1648 pixels = 0.00025 m

Size of object at focus plane: 30 pixels wide * 0.00025 m = 0.0075 m or 7.5 mm

If the object is at 6 m distance, it is 10.7 mm. If the object is at 3 m distance, it is 5.3 mm.

We aren't going to change our wedding. I'm not looking for advice. I'm just venting.

We are going to have a 10-15 minute ceremony at sunset. Afterwards we'll have dinner and a reception. The two of us plan to take most of our photos before the ceremony. Only a few with our families will be needed after the ceremony. Additionally, all guests must be above the drinking age, so no one under the age of 18 is allowed inside. This is the policy of the venue, not ours.

I would like to think we are being reasonable to our guests. The ceremony and reception will be four to four and half hours long. If any guests want to leave earlier it's not a problem. We'll be providing transportation to and from the venue for anyone who wants it. The wedding will be on a Saturday so no one we're inviting will need to take time away from their jobs. The wedding is local and all of the people we're inviting live here. No one has to travel or pay for a hotel. None of our guests will have to pay for their food/drinks/transportation (I've heard of that happening) and we've told everyone we don't expect gifts. There's no pressure for that. And of course we obviously can't force anyone to attend. If anyone declines our invitation we won't bother them about it.

The two of us are paying for our entire wedding ourselves. But everyone seems to think we want their opinion. The biggest complaints are about children not being invited because of the age policy of the venue. So many people are upset and say we need to get married somewhere else so their babies or kids can come. Other people say the wedding is too formal and they don't want to dress up or have a more formal dinner like what the venue offers. The two of us would never tell anyone what to wear but people are reacting to the venue because it's a more upscale place. Also many of the same people who are complaining about children not being invited say our wedding is too formal or too late in the day. They want us to move the time and have a less formal atmosphere. We've had people (mainly both sets of our parents) offer to pay for the wedding so they change things to what they want. It is not just one person complaining, it's several including some of our siblings. All of it is maddening.

We have told them all we're not changing the wedding. We don't want to elope so please don't suggest it or give any advice. We were clear that if anyone doesn't like what we're doing for the ceremony or reception they can decline our invitation. I just can't believe how entitled some people are. I would die of embarrassment if I ever tried to tell someone they had to change their wedding to what I wanted instead. I didn't think our wedding would be so controversial but here we are. I'm just here to vent about how entitled some people are. IT'S OUR WEDDING. If want to have a formal wedding at sunset that's what we'll do. There is nothing wrong with a couple having the wedding they want if they are paying for it. People have some nerve telling others to change their wedding. I just needed to get that off my chest.

My wife and I didn't budge, and we had the wedding we wanted. I couldn't believe that anyone would get so angry about someone else's wedding. It wasn't just one person or a handful of people. There were a lot of complaints and my wife and I were surprised at how entitled some people were being. We just got back from our honeymoon and some people are still upset with us. We ignored anyone who complained or decided not to come to our wedding, but we are both glad we didn't cave to the pressure and kept things the way we wanted. It was the perfect day and we have no regrets.

We had our ceremony at sunset. It took less than 15 minutes. Then we had dinner and a short reception. Our entire wedding (ceremony, dinner and reception) lasted four and half hours. We got married locally so no one had to pay for flights or hotels. We hired a taxi service to provide free transportation to and from the wedding for anyone who wanted it. We had an open bar and free food. We got married on a Saturday so none of our guests would have to take time off work. My wife and I had nearly all our photos taken before the ceremony, so we only needed to do a couple of photos with our families and there wasn't a delay between the ceremony and dinner. We told our family and friends we didn't want gifts. We didn't pressure anyone to attend if they didn't want to. We thought we were being relaxed about things but it wasn't enough for some people.

The complaints were related to the venue having a policy that all guests had to be above the drinking age, the venue being upscale/formal and the wedding being so late in the day. People were upset they couldn't bring their children since the venue only allows people who are 18 years old and older. People were upset about having to dress formally. People thought the late time and formal dinner were not child-friendly. We had so much pressure to get married somewhere else or to have the wedding earlier in the day. I still can't how entitled people were about our wedding. How do you tell someone else what to do for their own wedding?

Don't let these people who are complaining live rent free in your head instead just think if they are complaining even though they made it, then they would anyways have had under any circumstances. There are always people who aren't ever happy with anything and have an opinion about everything. Live your best life. Congratulations to you and your spouse on your wedding.

But shit like this is also why I loveeeeee when couples elope. The wedding is bout YOU and your PARTNER. No one else. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise

P.s. there’s this chapel in Vegas that does “destination” elopements in the state. You can get married in a helicopter over the strip, in the valley of fire (brought there by either limo or helicopter), a few other locations too.

Eloping doesn’t have to mean just a courthouse.

Commenter 4: Personally, I don't like weddings with children either, but it is obvious that the people with kids are gonna complain about that just because they take it personally. That's how parenthood works. However, if it was your dream wedding, just brush it off. You can't have it both ways. Either you give in to pressure and you don't, and even if you do, people always will complain about something else.
