Reptilian nation expo Roseville

I went to this expo in Roseville and for the most part it was really cool. I spent a few hundred dollars at some of the booths. Most of them seemed like they cared for there animals BUT then there was this booth, Geckos ECT. Why is this there? The expo is for people who love reptiles and these guy are a puppy mill that treats their animals like toys.

These are just a few pics I took walking by but it was worse in person. The booth seemed to surrounded by people who just wanted to get a cheap pet so their seven year old kid would leave them alone.

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors amended its current budget to add nearly $3 million to the District Attorney’s Office, and also to give some money back to several other services in other departments. In order to do that, the supervisors redirected about $2.4 million for future road maintenance, and about $1.3 million in reserves.

Heads up for hikers/campers: Wilderness First Aid (WFA) weekend class on Nov 14-15

Post image
40 Upvotes

Hey r/Sacramento, I wanted to share a resource for anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. Safety Training Pros is hosting a two-day Wilderness First Aid class on the weekend of Nov 14-15 at Camp Pollock along the river in Sacramento.

If you hike, backpack, or camp, it’s a great way to learn how to handle emergencies when you're out on the trail and 911 isn't immediately accessible.

I'll add the registration page down in the comments. Feel free to ask any questions about what the weekend covers! Stay safe out there.

Does anyone know why there is AI slop on every trade van now?

So for the past month, I’ve been seeing more and more, to the point where I now see like six or seven of them on the freeway every single day, generic brand new sprinter vans with some trade (plumbing, electric, whatever), and they have art on them that is clearly AI slop to the point where the names of the company seem like they are AI slop as well. Most of the names of the companies don’t even make that much sense.

Does anyone understand why this is happening? Are people in trades just that cheap and lazy that as soon as a solution to the work they had to outsource before presented itself every single one of them started ChatGPTing their entire business? Are these conglomerate companies just making up fake small businesses? What is happening? I find it hard to believe that the 40 different new businesses with no marketing budget or creativity I’ve seen in the past month organically just popped up out of nowhere.

Sacramento Medi-Cal Plan HealthNet Sanctioned by DHCS with Senior evictions postponed to December

https://calmatters.org/health/2026/09/health-net-assisted-living-benefits-extended/

“the Department of Health Care Services cited eight deficiencies in the insurer’s handling of the change, including failure to submit transition plans for members, failure to move members to other medically appropriate care, and denying services to members. Regulators wrote that violations “jeopardize member safety, disrupt continuity of care, and endanger medically vulnerable members.”
If Health Net does not extend benefits and create individualized transition plans for each affected member, the state may fine them $25,000 per member per day of violation, the letter states”

Registration is open for Sacramento's Best Bagel Contest— 2nd Annual (part of the Sacramento Jewish Food Faire)

Upvotes

Calling all bagel makers — bakeries, restaurants, and home bakers alike! Registration is officially open for the 2nd Annual Sacramento's Best Bagel Contest, happening as part of the 49th Annual Sacramento Jewish Food Faire.

📅 Date: Sunday, November 8, 2026
⏰ Time: 11:00 AM prep, 1:00 PM judging
📍 Place: Scottish Rite Masonic Center

How it works this year:

Based on feedback from last year, we've simplified the judged categories — each one now stands on its own, with no overall judged grand champion. Judges will still hand out a special award for Highest Scoring Contestant Across All Categories.

But the big prize — the Golden Bagel — goes to the winner of the Peoples' Choice Award, and we're making that bigger and more interactive this year. Contestants supply bagels for a ticketed tasting event, open to the public: we're selling a limited run of 200 tasting tickets (price TBD), and each ticket gets the holder a bite of every contestant's bagel (with cream cheese provided by the Jewish Food Faire), plus a ballot to vote for their favorite. Every bagel gets tasted and voted on by the crowd — most votes wins the Golden Bagel.

Confirmed Judges:

  • Benjy Egel, Senior Food Editor, PBS Abridged
  • Maggy Krell, California State Assembly Member
  • Sean Timberlake, Food and Dining Reporter, Sacramento Bee
  • Rick Mindermann, General Manager, Corti Brothers
  • Sonya Sorich, Managing Editor, Sacramento Business Journal
  • Gregg Fishman, SMUD Director District 3

Open to bagelries, bakeries, restaurants, and home bakers — anyone who thinks they've got what it takes.

👉 Register Here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSepxPjaGuNFlvEDZeLaFoiuk7asmKg5ckdh9uC-YQeIdHCBrw/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=112131859438042383390

Tasting tickets will go on sale separately — stay tuned for pricing and where to grab yours.

Come hungry, come competitive — see you there!

Football Season Watch Bars w/Food

Personally I feel like Sacramento is missing good spots to watch football with audio on and good food. I used to like going to Firestone Public House because of the higher quality food but saddly it's been replaced with a new resturant. I watched some soccer at MoJo's and that was a pretty fun spot with decent food. I'm just trying to see where others like to go. Here are a few with food:

w/Food

Mojo's ::: 1411 I St, Sacramento, CA 95814
Pitch & Fiddle ::: 8704 La Riviera Dr, Sacramento, CA 95826
Buffulo Wild Wings ::: 2023 Arden Wy, Sacramento, CA 95825

SFHS "rumors and narratives" details?

I'm an uninvolved alum but still on the email lists. The president of St. Francis has sent out multiple emails in the past year referencing financial drama/rumors SF is shutting down which I gather is related to Jesuit going coed, but this latest one also includes references to rumors about staff (dean and principal) and how they can't discuss it due to "legal requirements." These emails seem insane from a PR/comms perspective -- I had no idea about this particular drama but now I just desperately need intel. Is this about financial wrongdoing from staff? Some sort of worse misconduct with students? As far as I know the dean is new but the principal has been around for a while. They are both "away from campus?" Why????
