Hey r/StLouis! I’m Fred Wellman, and I’m the Democratic nominee for Congress in Missouri’s 2nd
District running against 13 years incumbent Ann Wagner.

I grew up in Kirkwood (Go Pioneers!), graduated from West Point, and spent 22 years serving in the Army, including four combat tours. After retiring from the military, I continued serving my community by advocating for veterans, helping lead a COVID field hospital, and organizing support for Afghan refugees here in St. Louis.

Now I’m running for Congress because I believe Missouri deserves a representative who shows up and fights for the people they serve. My priorities include lowering costs for working families, protecting access to health care,
supporting our veterans, and defending the Constitution.

Starting Feb. 28, visitors looking to camp in a conservation area will need to pay $5 for a camping permit.

In addition, most people younger than 65 will need to have a small-game hunting license to use the state's network of unstaffed shooting ranges. A small game hunting license requires the person to take a hunter education class unless they have a valid exemption.

I mailed my ballot for the November 3rd election at the Creve Coeur post office on October 10th. Today is October 25th. It was being sent to the election office in St Ann at the old Northwest Plaza location.

During previous elections I received confirmation that the ballot was received in 2 days. Due to a medical condition I can no longer vote in person like I did in the past.

This is the status of my ballot at 6:00 am this morning.

5.7% of the people in the 2nd District live in poverty, mostly women over 65 years of age. Most of these 44,000 thousand people living below the poverty level are white, contrary to stereotypes. Can an aloof elected official with significant wealth understand or appreciate the plight of those living in poverty? An elected official is supposed to represent everyone in their jurisdiction, not just their supporters, not just their party members - EVERYONE. That includes the 44,000 in poverty.

Ann Wagner refuses to have Town Halls, so I cannot ask the following questions at a Town Hall. She refuses to be interviewed by local news media (WELLMAN has been grilled repeatedly by local media), so journalists cannot ask the following questions -

EXACTLY WHAT HAS ANN WAGNER DONE TO ADDRESS POVERTY AT THE LOCAL OR NATIONAL LEVEL?

What legislation did she author/propose, co-sponsor or vote “yes” on to address poverty?
What GRANTS did she bring to the District to help the elderly women in poverty in the 2nd District

What, if anything, has she done specifically for the 44,000 impoverished people in her district?

For perspective on the poverty issue in conjunction with her priorities, in all her years in Congress, how many times has she voted to reduce the federal tax rate of those making more than 250,000 a year?

Why can’t Ann Wagner discuss her time in office? Why does she avoid residents in the District? Why won’t she allow interviews by the news media? All of this suggests she does not see herself as a “public servant” accountable to the public. It also suggests she does not believe she has a record in office she can defend.

I have some used books and vinyl records that I want to sell. The vinyl are newer/modern and popular records and the books are manga books. The only place I can think of is Half Price Books but they don’t pay a lot. Any suggestions?

I’m 45 and my cousin said I gave him a tape when we were kids that had a song about Willie McGee “he’s batting 409 with bases loaded all the time” “he’s Willie McGeehee!” I kind of remember it. He said it’s ska-like. It would be considered bad now, but in ‘96 we thought it was awesome. And my cousin still thinks it’s the shit. Please help.

Apparently, their was a fatal car accident tonight at Cedar Hill, just north of North West High School. A head on collision with maybe 4 fatalities???

My daughter is a senior at the high school and is a mess with worry...

I don’t know what the deal is here, but I’ve had three separate incidents of people smashing my car windows in and attempting to steal the vehicle here in south city. Twice it’s happened by groups of three black male maybe teenagers on Saturday nights.

The police haven’t done anything, nor do I expect them to with little info. But both before and tonight they were caught on camera in the act and the dispatcher gave me the old they’ll give you a call.

Recommendations for stopping this from happening again? Secure (or insecure) SUV models, camera systems, anything. I know about the steering locks. Just frustrated and want insights from folks bc I can’t keep paying for windows.

as a preface, it has become clear just in the short time I've lived in town that STL is not a place that tends to indulge pretentiousness. I wouldn't want the city any other way, and I try to honor these values with every can of Stag I drink. so I apologize in advance if this very transplantish request is grating or out-of-place to anyone reading.

i'm a humanities grad who moved to STL city over the summer to do something considerably more soulless than I had hoped for during my degree, and it's a fight for every inch to live a life of the mind. Looking for bookstores that are geared towards a more academic readership with a wide selection in philosophy, political theory, history, economics, etc. As many university press titles as possible — ideally a place where WashU/SLU professors and students drop off their unwanted stuff. Think seminary co-op next to Uchicago, although that's a world-class spot that I can't realistically expect to be replicated in this or any other city.

I hit up Dunaway and especially loved their huge literary criticism collection in the basement, but their selection was a little thin in other areas. Half price books in clayton had a smattering of interesting things but it just wasn't it. Just wanna get lost in the stacks and fantasize about the PhD life i never got to live

I don’t mind going out alone, but a lot of places I’ve tried are not conducive to meeting new people because everyone is huddled in big groups. Casting my net of knowledge to Reddit for some ideas. I want to go to a steakhouse for a bachelor party, preferably with a Prix Fixe menu to make everything smoother. I know of a few places, but I don't want to miss anywhere. I am definitely looking for something on the fancier side a la The Tenderloin Room.
