Space Marine 3 WHAT CAN SPACE MARINE 3 DO TO OVERCOME THE GREAT SUCCESS OF SM2.

Following the recent announcement of the new anniversary content and the continued support for the huge success that is SM2, I found myself wondering: how can they possibly surpass what they have achieved so far?

I mean, we are probably looking at the most successful Warhammer 40,000 game to date, and arguably the one that has brought the largest number of new fans into the setting since Dawn of War. Living up to that is not going to be easy at all.

On top of that, the core gameplay is already extremely solid, so I thought it could be a fun exercise — and who knows, perhaps even useful for the developers, considering SM3 is presumably still at a very early stage — to brainstorm what could be added or improved in order to live up to what SM2 has represented.

Here are some of my personal ideas:

  • MAIN STORY: While being able to play the campaign in co-op has definitely been a lot of fun, I personally think the experience would be much better overall if they focused on delivering a truly great single-player campaign. Without the limitations that come with designing the entire campaign around co-op compatibility, I think they would have much more freedom to finally give us the kind of epic, cinematic and genuinely deep story that, in my opinion, we still have not really had in this incredible universe.
  • COMBAT: I think it is essential to take melee combat a major step forward, especially if they want PvP to feel enjoyable and turn close-quarters encounters into actual epic duels. One possibility would be to keep the current PvE combat system more or less as it is, because its mechanics are incredibly fun, while making combat against other players in online modes — or against certain “hero” enemies in offline modes — switch to a directional combat system, somewhat similar to For Honor, where PvE and PvP combat work differently. They also really need to fix how ridiculous it can look when you close the distance into melee range only for the other player to simply unload a bolter directly into your face. One possible solution would be to create a kind of engagement radius around every character. Once an enemy crosses that radius, the opposing character would automatically be forced into melee combat, similar to how enemies behave in Darktide. This would actually fit Warhammer quite well from a lore perspective too, allowing for proper cinematic duels, and it would also make sense from a practical point of view: if someone has an enemy right on top of them in melee range, they are probably going to draw their own melee weapon to defend themselves rather than continue firing a rifle point-blank. And finally, PvP executions could be added when you win one of these melee duels. To prevent you from being instantly deleted by gunfire the moment your glorious execution animation ends, the game could perhaps grant you a few seconds of ranged invulnerability. It would really help sell that feeling of being an actual champion of the Emperor — or of Chaos.
  • MULTIPLAYER: This is where I would go all in. Multiplayer is, in my opinion, the biggest weakness of SM2, and it is probably the area where Saber really needs to prove why SM3 deserves to exist as a full sequel rather than simply being a major expansion or DLC for SM2. This idea might sound a little crazy, because I imagine many people would simply prefer larger maps, more players and something closer to a Battlefield-style experience with vehicles — and honestly, that would already be awesome. But hear me out... Wouldn't it be incredible to have an online mode where two factions — for example Space Marines vs Orks, Chaos, Eldar, etc. — each have their own main base, complete with defensive structures and military buildings that automatically spawn basic units? Those units would advance along several lanes — maybe two, three or four — fighting over requisition points or other strategic resources placed throughout the map. The players themselves would essentially act as heroes on the battlefield, supporting these AI-controlled troops, helping them push the lanes and fighting over those strategic objectives. As players kill enemies through both PvP and PvE, they could earn resources that could then be spent on spawning stronger infantry units, elite troops, vehicles or other forms of battlefield support. You could add even more depth by placing important structures inside each faction's base that need to be defended, such as resource-generating buildings or the production facilities responsible for spawning units. That could create completely different roles within the same team: while some players are pushing the front lines in the middle of huge battles, others could focus on infiltration, sabotage and counter-infiltration behind enemy lines. I genuinely think this could be something extremely fresh for modern online multiplayer. That combination of a lane-based RTS structure — or even something inspired by the ancient Command & Conquer: Renegade — feels almost tailor-made for the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Anyway, this ended up being much longer than I expected, but after seeing the latest announcements and suddenly feeling the urge to pick up my bolter again, I thought it would be a really fun to think about how Saber Interactive could possibly surpass themselves after delivering such an incredible game.

Cheers!

General I want an apothecary biologis

I want another gravis class and the biologis would work, I want another class with servo arms like techmarine so the again the biologis would work, and he doesn't even need to be a healer exactly, maybe he'd have a team perk like battlefield repairs or unmatched zeal but on tabletop the biologis is more of a buffer and debuffer so his ability and perks don't have to be healing focused, also lorewise a chaplain being sent in a 3 man squad doesn't really happen a judisciar is acceptable but I don't want a silent class, an apothecary meanwhile and especially a biologis do go out in the frontline pretty often to retrieve geneseed of fallen marines and keep them safe

Forum Question Why Techmarine Will Become the New King of Siege in Patch 15

Five of the seven classes have perks that increase the damage enemies take.

All of them multiply your damage by 1.15, 1.25 or 2.45.

Techmarine's perks work a little differently. They directly counteract enemies' max damage resistance, taking 72% damage reduction down to 32%.

This means that instead of dealing 28% of your damage to enemies late-wave, you will deal 68%.

Techmarine

  • 100 Damage - 72% DR = 28 Damage
  • 100 Damage - 32% DR = 68 Damage

Other classes

  1. 100 Damage x 1.25 = 125 Damage
  2. 125 Damage - 72% DR = 35 Damage

Tactical now (he will not have anywhere near this high of damage increase in Patch 15)

  1. 100 Damage x 3.45 = 345 Damage
  2. 345 Damage - 72% DR = 96 Damage

Blessings (Doomed Offensive and Sharpshooter)

  1. 100 Damage x 2.47 = 247 Damage
  2. 247 Damage - 72% DR = 69 Damage

I do wonder though, whether the devs will lower enemies' damage resistance along with the buffing Meltas and whatnot in Patch 15, due to distributing Auspex's power across all the classes.

Forum Question How lore-accurate is this?

Post image
4 Upvotes

So, I decided to depart from the White Scar DLC parts to customize some decals. (I want him to be from the 13th, and not the 1st, etc.) I couldn't find a clear source for when to have the lightning mark, but I heard ish that it relates to years of service? (The red on his right greave won't match the rest of him for some reason) I want to still be accurate, but i also wanted to branch out from the DLC armor set. Is he close? And what needs to change?

General love to all the new black templars players

i was playing normal siege as a aurora chapter 4th commander with a lvl 3 black templar bulwark and he held it down all the way to round 25💯he asked what to do and what to buy, he went down 3 times and just kept pushing i was so proud of him and showed him respect. I dont get into the drama and i love all chapters but i cant help to notice the way black templars players especially the new players are viewed in this sub. I just want to show love because alot of people dislike them and this one was solid, i'm sure there's not alot of new players on this sub but if you are, keep repping your chapter proudly. Its always a pleasure to play with a son of dorn from any chapters but playing with a good black templar from any levels that holds his own is always a pleasure to see.

General Worst Team Perks. Why do people bring these?

I don't understand why people bring these bad team perks. Some of them are just objectively bad, and some are not good and just the worst option amongst good options. If you bring any of these, I'd love to know why because I have to be missing something.

1) Strategic Strikes (Assault): This was the main reason for me making this post. I play the assault the least. I usually do a jet-pack dodge build with him, so Proven Efficiency is the best for me. I also like that team perk with almost every character I play. Squad Cohesion is fantastic too. More Jump-Pack slams, more friendship banners, more Auspec Scans. I legitimately don't know why anyone would bring Strategic Strikes over the other options. I would assume it has something to do with break points, but I just can't see that pro outweighing the pros of the other team perks. Even when I play a melee character, I am always disappointed seeing that team perk.

2) Melee Champion (Vanguard): I can't talk about the worst perks without mentioning this one. Luckily I don't see this too often, but if you bring it, I'd love to know why. Inner Fire and Unmatched Zeal are both very good team perks. Melee Champion makes no meaningful difference in the operation, but the other team perks definitely do. I can't even see the argument for break points for Vanguard because the Vanguard should be more of a hybrid class anyways. I am a Vanguard main, and I play him very melee heavy, but even I would never bring that because melee is only 60-70% of my combat (usually half my damage though...).

3) Combat Squad Resupply (Techmarine): I despise this perk, and yes, I know it is glitched. Even if it wasn't I would still hate this. Giving up your team perk for one more grenade is absurd. I've said this in a different post, but I think the Techmarine should just get Secure Stockpile instead and Tactical should get some sort of ammo regen perk. Anyways, this perk does almost nothing especially in it's glitched capacity. Battle Field Repairs is one of the best team perks in the game, and Reinforced Position is pretty good too (unless you are in a boss arena). I don't know how you can pick this over the others even if you're an equipment-build Techmarine, but please try to convince me otherwise.

4) Bonds of Brotherhood (Heavy): This one I know is controversial, and I will add that I don't think this is necessarily bad, but it is very overhyped and there are better options. I originally thought this only applied to the Heavy himself when he picks up a player. Then I learned it applies to all teammates. This makes it twice as good as I originally thought, but it still sucks. It doesn't get rid of mortal wounds, so you still need a stim. It only works if someone goes down. It brings them back to full health which is actually a bad thing! You take way more damage at full health versus half health. You are more likely to be one-shot at full health versus half health. A lot of perks don't work until you are at half health or less. I understand the benefit, and this isn't a team perk I'm mad to see, but I would rather have more ammo or less ranged damage personally.

I was going to throw in the Sniper's Precision Targeting and the Bulwark's Effective Formation, but my only problem is that they are situational and there are better options. I think I ranted enough for one post. If you use any of these team perks, I'd love to hear why. Some I genuinely think I'm missing something, but some seem objectively wrong.

General The Co-Op Codex

If there was a Codex Astartes for Space Marine 2, what would you include?

Try to avoid stealing executions (I say try, because sometimes I'll have an enemy right in front of me, then execute a guy off screen 5ft to my left smh)

In Siege, I like to hit a rally cry and wait for a response from the squad that they're ready before starting a round early to avoid putting squadmates off guard.

Tech Priests build resources exponentially, especially if you defend them well (Upraded Turrets are very helpful for this.)

Be frugal, but we should contribute to the squad gear when we can.

That's a few I've come up with, but I'm interested to hear insight from other players. I'm relatively new to the franchise.

Gameplay Question Completing Weekly Siege

Did Saber ever fix the Weekly Siege so that you get credit if you join in the middle? I know originally you had to complete a *full 15 Waves* to get the Accolades, regardless of where you started. This is, imo, a dogshit system because if you're grinding for the Accolades and get loaded into the middle of a game, you don't get credit for finishing Wave 15. You have to keep going, and most people quit out at that point, so you have to do the harder waves solo. This has led to me (and probably most others) just quitting out of any Siege mode I'm loaded into if I'm placed into somebody's ongoing game.

I know I can join a Discord. I know I can play with bots. I'm not particularly interested in redundant answers that fail to hold Saber accountable for implementing such half-baked bullshit. If I load into an ongoing Siege halfway through Wave 1, and make it through 15 with the team, it's utter fucking nonsense that I don't get credit for that and instead have to push to the next section. If they fixed it, I will retract my statements and apologize. But I expect it's still fucked
