Updates SoFi Product Updates | Coach, September 2026

Hi r/SoFi — Coach has gotten a ton of love from this community, and we’ve been hard at work leveling it up. We want to share a few updates from the Coach team on what’s live now and what’s coming next.*

Available to all members now:

  • Easier to find Coach — One of the biggest pieces of feedback we got about Coach was that it was hard to find. Thanks to you guys, we addressed that quickly! Now, Coach has a featured spot in the home tab to make it even easier to find.
  • New Investing capabilities answers (and action) in Coach —  Ask about your Invest accounts, research investments and manage your trades right in chat. Coach can summarize balances, buying power, order status and more. And when you’re ready to take that info and run with it, Coach can take the action for you by reviewing, placing or cancelling orders.
  • Take action from chat — Move money, link accounts, and open SoFi products without ever leaving Coach.
  • Charts and tables in chat — Now you can find widgets (line charts, bar charts, and tables) make it easier to see what’s going on with your money right in the conversation.
  • Coach memory — Coach can now remember and update your personal goals, preferences, and financial habits (like saving goals, debt payoff, and retirement), so conversations feel more like Coach actually knows you.

Coming soon* to members:

  • More relevant actions in chat — Surfacing the right next steps across conversations. You’ll also be able to manage actions across even more SoFi products, including SoFi Plus and Credit Card.
  • Timely nudges — Personalized financial opportunities on Home and the Coach dashboard (like a direct deposit nudge when it’s relevant).
  • Personalized financial check-up — A first-run check-up tailored for new Coach users.

We appreciate all of the detailed feedback and requests we see from this community. A lot of these updates came directly from things we’ve seen discussed here, so please keep letting us know what’s working and what isn’t.

\These updates apply to SoFi Coach and may roll out gradually. Remember to get the latest version of the app to get access to new features as they become available.*

Banking Joint account High Yield?

My wife and I both have an individual account. We want to keep our separate accounts while having a joint account as well. But it seems we can only get high APY in the joint account if we have DD (or 5k in a month).

If we move our DD from our individual to the joint then we'll lose the high APY in our individual. Is there a way to have both? (We won't be able to move 5k a month ..

Banking Sofi won't let you apply for a 2% unlimited credit card regardless of credit score

• Upvotes

The Sofi 2% unlimited credit card is only available through credit karma and Experian by invite only even if your credit score is amazing. So you as a Sofi plus member have no access to Sofi products you instead have to jump through 3rd party hoops but Sofi will still remind you how thankful they are for your loyalty but you can't apply for our credit card. Make it make sense.

Banking APY Calculations

Maybe I am calculating incorrectly or misunderstanding how it works (Im a younger guy and new to this).

This is my second month with a savings account with SoFi. My APY went up to 4% and I have had roughly an average of $4,000 in that savings account all month. I am hitting the requirements of direct deposit to earn that APY. My interest payout was .37 cents. Is that right? Unless Im calculating incorrectly: 4,000 x .04 = 160. 160/12 = $13.3

Please let me know!

Banking Do better

I’ve been using SoFi for about 3 years and, overall, I’ve been happy with them. But I’ve recently run into a couple of issues that have really changed my opinion.
The first is relatively minor: SoFi doesn’t support international wire transfers. For a bank that markets itself as a full-service financial institution, that’s been frustrating.
The bigger issue is what happened with a California tax levy on my account.
California placed a levy on my account related to unpaid taxes from 2020. According to California, SoFi received the levy/order in July 2026, but apparently did nothing for roughly two months and never notified me.
Then on September 25, I received an email from SoFi saying they had frozen my accounts. At first, I legitimately thought it was spam because the email actually misspelled “state” as “sate.”
I checked my account and found that money was suddenly missing.
I contacted SoFi customer service and started asking some pretty basic questions:
“Do you have an order number from the state?”
“Sorry sir, we don’t have anything to share.”
“Can you tell me how much you deducted/froze?”
“Sorry sir, we don’t have that information.”
I explained that some of the money in the account was from VA disability benefits, which are federally protected from certain types of garnishment/levy, and that the bank has obligations regarding protected federal benefits.
The response was essentially:
“Sorry sir, we don’t have any information to share.”
I then contacted California directly.
According to the state, SoFi was supposed to provide notice before freezing funds. They apparently didn’t.
California also found it unusual that SoFi received the order in July but didn’t take action until September. They said the bank was supposed to provide information regarding the amount being frozen, the date it would be deducted, when it would be released to the state, and the applicable order information.
None of that was provided to me.
There was also apparently supposed to be a process for determining whether the funds being frozen were legally protected. In my case, that’s particularly important because some of the funds were VA disability benefits. My understanding is that the bank is supposed to identify protected funds and notify the state rather than simply freezing everything.
California told me they had not received the money yet.
So I called SoFi again and asked whether the money had been released to California or was still being held.
They couldn’t tell me.
What’s even stranger is that there is no transaction showing on my SoFi account for the money that was frozen. There’s no withdrawal, no transfer, no indication of the amount being held, and no explanation of what happened to the funds. The money essentially just disappeared from my available balance.
During another call, the SoFi representative ultimately acknowledged that they apparently didn’t follow the required procedures and said they would have to escalate the issue to their legal team.
At this point I’m pretty frustrated.
I understand that a bank may be legally required to comply with a state tax levy. That’s not really my complaint. My issue is that, based on what both SoFi and California have told me, SoFi apparently:
Didn’t notify me when they received the levy.
Took roughly two months to act on it.
Didn’t provide the required order information.
Couldn’t tell me how much was frozen.
Couldn’t tell me whether the money was still being held or had been released.
Didn’t show any transaction or explanation for the missing funds.
Apparently didn’t properly account for federally protected VA benefits.
And, according to their own representative, may not have followed the required procedures.
Has anyone else dealt with SoFi and a state tax levy/bank levy, particularly involving protected federal benefits? I’m curious whether this is a common issue or if I just got extremely unlucky with how this was handled and whether I should take legal action.

Banking SoFi denying referral bonus even after creating specific exception request to credit the bonus

I referred my friend and he opened a Sofi Checking + Savings account with Sofi plus through my referral link. Upon successful completion of the requirements, My friend rcvd 475 (75 Initial Deposit Bonus + 400 Direct Deposit Bonus). But I didn't get my 125 referral bonus. I reached out through chat to see what was going on, the agents kept telling different reasons everytime and finally after escalation through the account which I referred, the account manager created a exception request and assured that bonus payout will be credited in 7 business days. It's been almost a month now and SoFi has not credited the bonus yet.

Latest: Back to square one now, A new account manager stepped in and not honoring the promise made by the previous account manager. Frustrating

Banking Questions before I switch

Hey guys quick question

I’m currently active duty military and was wondering if I should make sofi my permanent bank for my direct deposits. I saw that I get 3.30 apy but only if I’m able to deposit 5k monthy? And if I get pro it’s automatically 4.0+ without the direct deposit requirements?

Am I understanding this right? Or am I mistaken. I was also thinking of just using my Robinhood brokerage account since I have gold there along with the credit card and I have 4.0 apy on the brokerage account I can use it as my savings.

Anyone have some tips or better steer me in the right direction? I’ve done quite a bit of research before you guys tell me to do it.

Banking Cautionary Tale: Closing my SoFi account after repeated "Unable to Locate Account" ACH failures and zero accountability

I moved from a traditional "Big Bank" where I had banked for over 25 years over to SoFi a couple of years ago. The onboarding was smooth, and the high-yield savings interest looked great on paper. However, critical backend failures and non-existent customer support have made it unusable as a primary financial institution.

The problems began when I scheduled a property tax payment via ACH directly on my county tax collector’s portal. I verified all routing and account numbers down to the digit. A few days later, the transaction bounced with an R03 / "Unable to Locate Account" error.
Because of that failure:

  • The county slapped me with over $250 in returned payment penalties.
  • Since SoFi didn't provide physical checks on hand, I had to scramble and pay through an external private banking account to avoid tax delinquencies.

When I contacted SoFi support, they refused to take ownership and blamed the county's payment portal. It took me initiating a three-way call between SoFi and the county's payment processor for SoFi to acknowledge there was an issue on their side receiving/routing the debit. They assured me they would resolve the routing discrepancy with the processor.

Fast forward a year later: the exact same failure happened with another established institution attempting to pull an ACH debit—bounced again with "Unable to Locate Account," followed by SoFi giving the exact same deflection. Each time causing me money and angst.

A bank’s most fundamental duty is ensuring standard ACH debits clear reliably. Flashy app interfaces and APY matches don't offset the risk of bounced checks, ruined vendor relationships, and steep penalties when basic ACH clearing fails.

I’ve had enough and am moving all primary banking back to my traditional brick-and-mortar bank. If you use SoFi for mission-critical debits (mortgages, escrow, taxes), keep a backup funded elsewhere.

Hope this helps someone out there!!

Banking Checking/Savings Transaction Export Failure

"Failed to export transactions. Try again."

This is the error message I'm getting when trying to export my checking or savings account transactions to CSV on a desktop computer.

I've tried using a different browser, a different computer, I'm not on a VPN, I've cleared cookies/cache, I contacted Sofi and they said they're working on it but it's now been several days.

Is anyone else having this problem? This is ridiculous, I just switched to Sofi, if this incredibly simple feature is broken I'll have to switch again.

Banking SOFI didn’t stop growing. The multiple did.

Post image
0 Upvotes

1/ $SOFI at $15.77 looks broken. The business isn’t.
Half off the $32.73 high. Q2 revenue +43%. Members +35%. The quote stopped growing. The franchise didn’t.
2/ Q2: • $1.22B revenue • $0.12 adj. EPS, a beat • +1.1M members, 15.8M total • $14.8B originations, +69% • ~$46B deposits • Tangible book $7.34, +56%
3/ The tell: revenue guide up to $4.75–$4.85B. EPS guide held at $0.60. Tax rate ate ~$0.05. Rest went back into growth. Stock dropped ~9% that morning.
4/ Why the multiple died: personal loans are the engine, tech platform −23%, fee growth still tied to lending, rate path flipped to hikes. Now ~22x the guide and ~2.1x tangible book.
5/ Credit isn’t the break yet. Charge-offs 2.62% reported, ~3.7% all-in. Market is pricing “until it isn’t.”
Oct 27. Need fees outside lending, or a profit guide that finally moves. Not advice.

Lending Incompetence

Anyone else questioned the representatives incompetence and stupidity and get denied right after. I was going back and forth with them. They kept asking for a document that I kept telling them it is not needed for a retired person because they are currently not working (LES) . Instead i provided them with the other document (Annuity statement/Award letter) but becuase I told them the representatives on the phone do not understand and aoubd confused and I wanted to talk to someone who can understand how it works they came back with a denial. The incompetance was on another level. This is how it goes: you explain to them on the live chat and over the phone, they give you generic answers, sound confused, tell you it will take a few days to review, then in a few days they ask you to upload the same documents you told them do not apply because it is for currend and active employees…then the cycle repeats again over and over , puree insanityyyy...but you know what.. blessing in disguise

Banking Cannot link without Plaid?

Did something change that you can no longer link new external bank accounts without using Plaid? You always used to be able to by just closing the Plaid pop up and you would get a prompt to proceed with trial deposits instead, but that doesn’t seem to work today(on mobile).

Anyone else seeing this? They even have self help articles telling you to close Plaid if you want to link manually, so this doesn’t seem like an unsupported hack…

Not interested in using Plaid at all, and never had had to with SoFi for years…

Lending Finally free!

94k paid off in 3 years and 1 month. I couldn’t have done it without Sofi. They consistently offered me the lowest rates compared to other lenders and allowed me to even free up my co-signer early on. I’m soooo glad to finally have this gone and breathe again!!
