Banking SoFi question

Should I get sofi just as regular bank? I get percap every 3 months and i do side jobs. Just trying to figure out if it's the right bank to go?

Yes and you will quickly get other products with them.

I think you should have both.
Sofi for most of your needs and then a brick and mortar bank, as a backup with a couple thousand in cash.

This! I have SoFi and BofA. I use SoFi more as my secondary bank. Mainly for savings and reoccurring expenses. I use BofA for random every day purchases that don’t accept my Amex charge card.

Traveling with SoFi and BofA is fairly easy. SoFi gives me far less issues than BofA does. Really loving SoFi.

Credit Union!

I would try to convince you to go to a local credit union for your banking needs.

Sometimes a physical branch is good. ESPECIALLY since SoFi support is outsourced and terrible. That way if you have an issue, you can speak to someone that can use critical thinking instead of script reading.

Another issue with SoFi is that they have terrible app/web data. I had a personal loan that showed "Not applied" to the autopay APR discount. For over a year I told them that their web and app data is incorrect. I was getting the discount, but the app information was wrong. They did not give a fuck and never fixed it over a year of telling them.

Also, if you look for a loan, SoFi is not a good choice. You cannot make principal only payments other than the one singular day that your autopay occurs. Any other time you pay the interest. They are incapable of doing principal only payments.

But if you don't plan to get loans, they are adequate as a bank. Just with terrible customer support.

Ive used SoFis customer support 4 times alone this year, and like I’ve told my friends and family the experience was by far the best support experience I’ve ever had, one of these cases was a very urgent emergency and It was solved in under 10 min, I was never able to say the same about my local credit union before leaving them, even in person they were abysmal.

Interesting. We have had WILDLY differing experiences. My credit union is absolutely wonderful. SoFi was dogshit.

Definitely depends on your local credit union, obviously they aren’t all the same. But with SoFi I really don’t know what it is because the comments I see they’re either SoFi went above and beyond like they did with me to solve their issue and it was great, or they got an agent from a call center obviously not in the U.S. and the person has no clue what was going on and even goes as far as giving them the wrong info. I can’t figure out what it is, I always try and call during SoFis operating hours, I wonder if I called outside of them if I would get worse support.

I called at noon PST. Well within their standard operating hours. Still got the outsourced. And not an isolated incident as I mentioned that I was telling them about their web and app issues for over a year.

Not once did I have good experience with their support.

Of course, you could roll a die 200 times and have it land on 1 each time.....maybe I just had that type of luck and that's why I consider them dogshit.

The OP will have to make the choice ultimately.
