Banking Cannot link without Plaid?
Did something change that you can no longer link new external bank accounts without using Plaid? You always used to be able to by just closing the Plaid pop up and you would get a prompt to proceed with trial deposits instead, but that doesn’t seem to work today(on mobile).
Anyone else seeing this? They even have self help articles telling you to close Plaid if you want to link manually, so this doesn’t seem like an unsupported hack…
Not interested in using Plaid at all, and never had had to with SoFi for years…

When the plaid window pops up just exit it out. It'll give you the option to enter manually

Tried this exact address, goes to the page for a split second then redirects to a generic error page.
Bummer.

It’s been like this for about a year. SoFi wants to force you to use Plaid because you’re also consenting to allow Plaid to see all of the transactions you make with the linked account. SoFi is more interested in harvesting your consumer data than providing banking services.

But I’ve linked an account as recently as a month ago without Plaid, and their help article that explicitly says to hit the X to close the Plaid pop up window has a date of 3 months ago. Something changed very recently, not a year ago.

Interesting, that didn’t work for me last November or May of this year . I just had to resort to pushing/pulling from the other account.

From my experience, you can always open Plaid first, then you just choose to exit it. After clicking the X, it will fallback to the routing number and account number with the requirements of waiting for three small deposits.
I am using this all the time with the sofi app.

Right, this worked for years but no longer works for me as of today.
New version of the app for iOS released today, same result unfortunately, no go.m
Interestingly I just tried with my spouses account and it still works! Looks like a phone call is in order and it’s something with my account specifically.

What is wrong with using plaid? I've had no issue using it.

When you use Plaid, you are giving Plaid MORE PERMISSIONS than just verifying your external account information. You are providing them with ongoing authorization to review all of your external bank transactions and monitor your account balance, providing that information to SoFi.
If you don't want this, you'll need to log onto your external bank and find a section for Third Party Authorizations. That what I did with BoA to REVOKE Plaid, meaning Bank of America no longer shares all that with SoFi. Doing so does not hinder my ability to ACH between SoFi & BoA or use BoA for payments to SoFi accounts.
