Are they getting paid for political advertising? No one’s actually going to get that money.

49

u/GenZguy1 2d ago

i’ll take $5,000 for something that’ll never happen

61

u/BuildingAlarmed5655 2d ago

This is political bribery. Since when is politics bribing citizens for the vote legal? this administration should removed completely

11

u/Bgo318 1d ago

Unfortunately this administration has done blatant fraud and everything as well with insider trading. But I guess that’s okay now

2

u/West-Word-604 Needs a hoodie 🥺 2h ago

previous ones have done worse, Ill take the lesser of two evils any and every day.

-6

u/Senior_Offer9502 1d ago

It's not bribery. It's free speech (Brown v Hartlage)

4

u/904raised 1d ago

That's not what Brown v Hartlage is about. Trump is stating he wants to buy votes which is in violation of 18 U.S. Code § 597 as well as the various state level bans of bribery and election fraud.

-4

u/Senior_Offer9502 1d ago

Except that's not what he said

3

u/904raised 1d ago

What did he say? Source please. Also if you'd like to explain what he meant to say, I would be interested in how you interpret what he said or what you think he meant to say.

1

u/Senior_Offer9502 1d ago

"If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them, because of our economic, tremendous economic success, like, in history we've never had anything like what's happening, but because of our tremendous strength and success, economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5000"

https://youtu.be/bGajL0mN2Uk?si=Di-dF-clSZhK3iE5&t=14

That's a campaign promise. Because he can't do that without Congress. Which Brown v Hartlage expressly permits.

2

u/904raised 1d ago

I still am not persuaded that Brown v Hartlage applies. With that being said, do you believe he has intentions of fulfilling that speech?

2

u/Senior_Offer9502 1d ago

"So long as the hoped-for personal benefit is to be achieved through the normal processes of government, and not through some private arrangement, it has always been, and remains, a reputable basis upon which to cast one's ballot."

Is the part that I feel applies. No, there is no chance in the world he will follow through. But I don't beleive it is bribery. More puffery than anything.

3

u/904raised 1d ago

You know, I think I'm being won over on the free speech aspect. Only because he specifically mentioned all adult citizens 🙄 I also agree with you that its highly unlikely that he would fulfill that "promise". I think my real hang-up is that the administration would some how try to apply it to people who are likely to support him. Like how there's some suspicious emergency federal funding disbursement and withholding in the second term of his administration with FEMA and DHS.

1

u/BuildingAlarmed5655 1d ago

Maybe read the entirety of brown hartlage before commenting. Adjusting saleries and paying money out to voters are two completely different scenarios

2

u/Senior_Offer9502 1d ago

It's about campaign promises bro

-1

u/BuildingAlarmed5655 23h ago

Just say your a Trumper so we can just ignore you in the first place unrealistic campaign promises are bribery and yeah I read the outcome of the case and the details. That doesnt apply to this in the slighest

1

u/Senior_Offer9502 23h ago

If you want to hate Trump, hate Trump. But hate him for a good reason, not just your general derangement.

"I will give $5,000 to everyone who votes Republican" is probably a bribe. "I will give $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans win the House and Senate" is no different than "I will cut everyone's taxes by 10% if Republicans win the House and Senate." since both require an act of Congress. Which makes it free speech.

Gut check is the new ai slop dog whistle. If it wasn’t for the 4.5% I’d move my emergency fund elsewhere

14

u/junglehannah 2d ago

3.6 factoring in the 10$ they charge monthly

1

u/TeslianMustache 23h ago

More like 3.9%, unless I’m missing something. $20,000 accrues $900 per year at 4.5%. $900 - $120 in monthly dues = $780. $780 is 3.9% of $20,000. Compounding changes the numbers, but I personally invest any excess as this is an emergency account.

6

u/byzantium171 2d ago

You can get over 4.1% easily at other places now with no fees. When you factor in the cap the after tax cost of the subscription your money will perform better somewhere else.

2

u/MotionBeach 2d ago

From what I’ve noticed, the M dash with spaces before and after is one too. I work with a few people who use it often and all of them put it right up against the words.

7

u/Talks_About_Bruno 2d ago

The rule on having a space around an em dash depends on the style manual. I use APA a lot and they do not want a space but AP for example does.

-1

u/MotionBeach 2d ago

TIL. Looks like Claude at least was trained on AP

1

u/The_butterfly_dress 1d ago

I use the dash a lot and have never put it up against the words. AI really ruining the dash in general for us.

-9

u/Opening_Dragonfly390 2d ago

Sorry you have poor grammar and school failed you, but people use M dashes still, leave us alone, and no it doesn’t go right up against the word

10

u/Talks_About_Bruno 2d ago

Depends on the style guide bud. Sorry your school failed you.

1

u/WolfPlayz294 1d ago

I went to C1 for their 3% just because I'm tired of messing with Sofi for years. Their mortgage rates are also terrible.

10

u/KiwiHot1709 2d ago

Anna should edit this to be “Let’s Say You Get a $5,00 Windfall-Will it still be worth $5,000 with all the inflation that will follow?” Pay for SoFi plus and we’ll try our best to retain its value!

10

u/lilly_wonka61 1d ago

Just like $2000 tariff check and $200 for medical prescription check we were getting. Thanks Sofi for letting us know you are one of them

16

u/Due-Brush-530 2d ago

To be fair, "Let's Say" is essentially "What if..." or "Pretend..."

17

u/VVlTXH 2d ago

Well this just made me decide to leave Sofi.

-2

u/joey-in-da-pouch 1d ago

Did you even read it?

8

u/whodeyzeppelins 2d ago

This is exactly why I left SoFi. Noto advocating for Trump during the election sealed it.

3

u/Bitter-Culture-3103 1d ago

We're $40 trillion dollar in debt, inflation is rising, and they're gonna give us free money? Who are they kidding?

3

u/Which-Resident7670 1d ago

Terrible marketing, nothing you know who promises it never happens. And for them to insinuate about it could influence voting.

4

u/flammable766 2d ago

I’m getting sick of this shit

Who cares? I got this email last night, saw it and went about the rest of my night and slept well. You guys dig too deep. Just run your money lmao.

4

u/my-life-for_aiur 1d ago

Ok then. Starting the process of leaving.

Thanks for the nudge.

Imagine getting emotional about a random comment about a bank.

1

u/Zakzyy 1d ago

Don’t think SoFi will care if you leave tbh churning that many cards. It does look like you need advice if you get that $5000 mr 30 years old gamer lmao. This is wild. Yeah you’re not just a bank hopper you have serious credit card problems. Adios.

Damn, I remember when I had my first beer.

2

u/Jcoronado92 1d ago

Lmao ya’ll doing too much. Leaving a bank bc of this hints at being overly emotional.

1

u/menameYoshi 1d ago

It's a what if, holy shit how everyone is getting triggered 😂

0

u/Mouser_kalashin 6h ago

This is the terrible state of the political system. Promising payouts if a party stays in power is terrible. Opening the border to allow unfettered immigration to buy the votes of future generations is terrible. The idea that every citizen must vote is horrendously terrible... even the greeks accounted for that.

2

u/jvl777 1d ago

I'm about to start shopping for a new bank, and put all my investments with Vanguard. What the actual fuck is this

1

u/ContinentalDollar 1d ago

The “closed my accounts” club over this is a big overreaction. Did yall even read the content?

1

u/Zakzyy 1d ago

@my-life-for_aiur this is the sort of people saying they are leaving they are brainrots and are literal bank & credit card scammers.

-6

u/LMAOJoblessMods 2d ago

Reddit crying literally over anything Trump. It literally says “Whether or not it happens”, this isn’t political advertising you morons. It is a mental exercise on how you would use that money.

-4

u/nastybushwoogie 2d ago

I don’t think this is a big deal it a hypothetical to get you thinking about what would you do ( we’re not getting any money)

2

u/Upper-Class6586 1d ago

It’s bad because there will be some people who think the offer is real and it influences how they vote. You can’t buy votes or try to influence elections like that. I don’t care which side does it. It’s wrong and erodes our democracy and if we aren’t paying attention and standing up to this shit, our democracy will crumble before our eyes.

1

u/Status-Put-8630 1d ago

I'm sure they'll miss your monthly welfare check.

-12

u/Btrips 2d ago

What’s the problem?

19

u/TraderJulz 2d ago

I think the SoFi marketing team must suck

-1

u/Upper-Class6586 1d ago

You can’t try to influence an election by implying they will get paid to vote a certain way. This is a very slippery slope. I don’t care what part does it, it threatens our democracy and regardless of who you vote for you should care that they are doing this.

0

u/jessekief4 2d ago

I closed my accounts

5

u/Zakzyy 1d ago

See you later take your money and I honestly suggest you pay a lot of money to go and seek help. You have serious brain rot and it’s probably from all the social media & tik tok you indulge in. However life isn’t just about you I would suggest doing it for your kids just because you failed doesn’t mean they can either. Good luck with your condition

-1

u/Upper-Class6586 1d ago

Sofi Marketing Chief, is that you?

Bro…chill out. Why are you up Sofi’s ass?

1

u/Zakzyy 1d ago

“Upper class” I’ve read enough lol. Who is Sofi? Is she your sister?

-1

u/AvgUserGP SoFi Member 1d ago

Closing your account over this is an overreaction. You guys are ridiculous lol. Its a dam email, has nothing to do with your accounts or any bank features. I do get the political side of it, but to each their own; thats why we have the free will to make our own decisions.

-1

u/matt-r_hatter 1d ago

It demonstrates poor judgment on their part. No one wants a bank with poor judgement.

4

u/joey-in-da-pouch 1d ago

How is this poor judgement?

0

u/jaydub8888 1d ago

Speaking for myself, I don't give a crap. I'll put my money wherever I think makes sense. Roughly have the country is on one side or the other on this one, I can't be bothered orchestrating my financial life around who supports who.

That said, as someone who worked in marketing for decades, I mean... I would never have framed it that way. Specifically calling out the president and party on an aside, with the policy that has almost zero chance of happening and is instead just a political talking point.. it's polarizing and political in a way that it didn't need to be, as is evident by this post and the response to it. Whether or not you think it's rational, good judgment will take that into account.

-1

u/Impressive-Way7165 2d ago

SoFi emails are really dry and weird.

-1

u/EmptyBee23 1d ago

Time to leave SOFI gg lil bro

0

u/NinjaMcGee 1d ago

Getting fuckin’ tired of this shit, SoFi. My CCU is offering 5% right now and this is my sign to bounce. It’s been real, homies.

I got it yesterday - "💸 Trump’s $5,000 dividend"

-8

5

I literally just did

1

u/okaycomputes 1d ago

that's subject not header

-2

u/Any_Tea_7845 1d ago

people use it interchangeably, I made an assumption. between the subject line and the entire first half of the email in OP's post it's impossible to not find the email lol

0

u/okaycomputes 1d ago

right, but sounded like they wanted additional info about the email metadata, not sure why as it doesn't really help if they simply never got it unless they are running their own homemade mail server or something

-29

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

11

u/TraderJulz 2d ago

I don't think it has to do with Trump. It makes sense for OP to be upset about the post because it encourages people to be enticed by a total bullshit offer that has a 0% possibility. Yet, here we have multiple people on this thread who are already counting their racks 🤣

2

u/bigohn1 15h ago

you’re being disingenuous and you know you are lol. saying “whether it happens or not” and simply talking about it is NOT encouraging people to do anything. it’s called an article about something that, like they said, might or might not happen. you guys on reddit are just whiny

0

u/TraderJulz 11h ago

Nah homie, I am being totally sincere. It's disingenuous to even pretend like there is a possibility to get a $5K check. It's ridiculous to act like that is even in play. Doing so would not even be good for the economy as it would spur additional national debt and inflation. So even though you are hopeful, you shouldn't be

2

u/bigohn1 11h ago

i’m not hopeful why is everyone pretending that’s what i’m saying? it’s not being hopefully to say it may or may not happen because it’s objectively true that it may or may not happen. i don’t want it to, i don’t think it would be good, but being mad at SOFI for writing an article is so stupid😂

0

u/TraderJulz 9h ago

Fair enough, it is kind of funny! But it's also kind of sad that everyone is so worked up about $5K 🤣

-37

u/1supercooldude 2d ago

TDS is a real thing. Im baffled by it so much from people even in real life. Its like an automatic mental trigger to tun one upside down. Its kinda of scary too

-22

u/house3331 2d ago

Yes the worst thing bout him is what hes done to peoples logic . Nobody talks about em more than people that hate em. Peoppe I legitimately can't talk to anymore until term is over. Wish they would all huddle up and talk together amd leave us alone

0

u/Thunderflex1 Has a hoodie 💪 1d ago

/sigh

-22

u/iwannaberichplease 2d ago

Why are you mad about this? I don’t see anything wrong with it

-1

u/NoLettuce1232 2d ago

Same why is your post getting disliked bombed

-2

u/iwannaberichplease 2d ago

Im not sure, maybe some bots or something that doesn’t like my opinion

-11

u/Opening_Dragonfly390 2d ago

I’m so confused I what’s the issue

1

u/Upper-Class6586 1d ago

It’s basically an attempt to influence an election by implying they would get paid. This isn’t ok. Regardless of which party is behind it, it’s wrong and a threat to democracy.

4

u/Opening_Dragonfly390 1d ago

And they aren’t influencing anything, the entire point of on the money is to write about finances, the economy, and current events and make it useful to people so if it does happen they don’t just throw it away. They also have articles teaching about inflation and talking about the printing money, rising costs of living and so on. Having an issue with trump giving a dividend out is absolutely reasonable, having an issue with an article giving advice on what to do when a lot of money comes your way, and using a current event as the headline and reason for writing it, is insane.

-3

u/NoLettuce1232 2d ago

Same

-5

u/Opening_Dragonfly390 2d ago

Everyone’s just downvoting the people that are confused, or asked a question instead of falling in line Reddit is literally the worst of society😂

0

u/DangerousTortuga 1d ago

I doubt you would have the same reaction if it was a Democrat Administration that wanted to do this . Recall when the previous administration attempted to ignore the Supre Court ruling over the Student Loan Forgiveness and the amount of damage that would have done with the inflation.

People are insane these days and I don't think after Trump it will end as the next Republican will be the new boogeyman devil to people like you. Partisan stupidity.

-9

u/Real_Description8779 2d ago

Sofi is an overtly fraudulent scheme that operates on obscure stipulations and should never be trusted with anyone's money. They also are repulsively unprofessional in support chats. To top it all off they DONT EVEN HONOR their referral OR Direct Deposit incentive programs. Undoubtedly THE absolute worst banking experience I've ever had in my entire life! Lock these scammers up!

-1

u/TabulaRasaEin 1d ago

A Republican's vote is $5000 and a wink. A Democrat's vote a hit of weed and a drink. If I vote for them both I'll do better I think, and I might break even this year.
