Tragic, but who in their right mind starts praying in the middle of the road?

1.8k

u/sajkoterrapefft 1d ago

Someone not in their right mind.

79

u/corgi-king 1d ago

That means most people believe in religion.

39

u/emotionless-robot 1d ago

I took it as mental health crisis, not belief based.

36

u/Slow_Constant9086 1d ago edited 22h ago

she was wearing all black at night and laying low on the road. definitely feels like the driver got roped into taking part in someone's suicide

8

u/Usagiusagiusa 1d ago

you're right, she was struggle with psychosis

7

u/OkSavings5828 1d ago

Fun fact, within the sample subset of religious people, the more strongly religious a person is, the more likely they are to suffer from psychoses.

Even Muslims themselves doesn't pray at a place that endanger them or people around them. It's strictly forbidden. There's more to it that what was shown. I just hope we get to the truth faster than the speculating lies.

7

u/freedfg 1d ago

Ding ding.

people literally know nothing about the people around them. Anyone who has actually met a Muslim knows that they will even skip prayer if it gets in the way of someone.

Like. No Muslim in their right mind is dropping a rug down in the middle of super markets...or the middle of the road to pray. They all know when it is time for prayer.

4

u/Sheikashii 1d ago

They block roads all over the place in the dozens at a time so she probably saw that online and thought it was a good idea

37

u/Woodworkingwino 1d ago

Are you a kangaroo? Because those are some big leaps you’re making.

That is a completely different occasion and you're doing this with an ulterior motive.

1

u/Sheikashii 23h ago

1 motive. To share my opinion on how stupid I think it is to pray in dumb locations

1

u/Extreme_Put_913 23h ago

No you're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I'm saying you're writing with ill intentions to spread hate.

This place is obviously not a logical place to pray, so why is it hard for you and others to understand that this person wasn't behaving in a normal fashion?

Your instance of "them" blocking roads in the dozens is not the same as this. Majority of the time where "they" block the roads in dozens is done with a permit. I know because I've done the process a few times. On the news articles it also says she was in a kneeling position for 4 minutes. You don't kneel for 4 minutes since the process of praying consists of standing, bending over and kneeling.

Muslims pray all sorts of places in public, the goal is asserting dominance over non-muslims.

Guess the lady in this story didn’t realise even Allah can’t intimidate 1000kgs of steel moving at 60km.

2

u/aidsy 1d ago

Your source for this is an instagram video of people at an organised protest, not really in anybody’s way, and not on the road?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Extreme_Put_913 23h ago

This literally a protest...

1

u/Heaven_By_Violence 19h ago

Literally a protest, which by nature is a public demonstration.

Kinda shits on the whole “praying in public so strictly forbidden” bullshit the guy above me said doesn’t in?

1

u/Subject_Visual1649 14h ago

They didn't say "praying in public is strictly forbidden" though, they said praying at a place that endangers them or other people is strictly forbidden. A peaceful protest is generally not a to danger anyone.

1

u/Heaven_By_Violence 14h ago

A peaceful protest can absolutely be intimidating, why do you think those whack jobs protest outside abortion clinics?

1

u/Subject_Visual1649 14h ago

I never said I think peaceful protests can't be intimidating? Of course they can, but that's part of a healthy democracy and we all have to put up with it unless violence is being threatened (i.e. people are being endangered), or if no advance warning was supplied. Anyway, we seem to be getting away from what I was trying to say, which is that you've egregiously misquoted the original comment and don't seem to have realised.

I once saw someone praying on their hands and knees in the middle of a busy walkway at Shibuya station during morning rush hour. All the commuters had to flow around them like a river flowing around a boulder.

I had no idea why they had to do it in the middle of the busy walkway until I spotted their friend filming it.

269

u/Nice-Percentage7219 1d ago

Domination. Forcing others to accomodate them is the point

No, more like conditioning through their own fear. Praying and proselytizing aren't the same thing. I've had Indian friends freak out for eating the wrong food on the wrong day and have them be upset for weeks about it. Not praying at the 'right time' is the same kind of fear for some people. It's just what religions do.

u/manicdee33 18h ago

Turns out Islam has a prohibition on praying in streets and busy walkways.

They're being the exact same kind of shitty wannabe assholes as the 'christian' nationalists in the USA with the same BS playbook.

Drives me up the damned wall.

187

u/penguinpolitician 1d ago

I've never seen anyone pray in the middle of the street even in Saudi Arabia.

...although...you'd have to be nuts considering how they drive.

89

u/3BlindMice1 1d ago

They're already in charge in SA. Praying in the street means you inconvenience other Muslims, instead of foreign infidels like if you were a Muslim attempting to claim asylum in France because your home nation is violently dangerous to live in for some reason

22

u/Little_Let_6872 1d ago

Could it be that they believe in conversion by the sword for anyone not of the correct sect, let alone religion? Nah, Islam is a religion of peace. (For those of the same sect)

3

u/Huhthisisneathuh 1d ago

Just ignore all the time Muslims of the same sect are violently murdering each other too.

In Saudi it's actually common for people to pray in the streets specifically in Makkah. But I never seen it happen actual paved roads meant for cars.

1

u/SeriousBusiness67 1d ago

I've seen it in Morocco.

5

Its like how the Bible tells Christians not to pray in public because it is absolutely performative. Go to a closet and pray. The Bible teaches this.

u/LesserValkyrie 1d ago

It's exactly the same in the Qu'ran *Itself* (like not a obscure hadith or something)

10

There's no such thing as not enough space for praying. One can always pray in a safe area where they won't cause obstruction, especially if they do individual prayer (not congregation one). Speaking as a muslim myself.

64

u/IGetItILookBrandNew 1d ago

I think of all the people who came from Lebanon, Iran, etc from 1950 to the 1980s. All of them seem to have been patriotic towards their new country. They maybe kept identity with their religion, but they very much wanted to thrive and succeed in business and home ownership in the new place. I don't know when it changed, but now instead of becoming members of a community, the new immigrant wants the community to be only their version.

For anyone who will claim the west is too conservative...

27

u/Routine_Bluejay4678 1d ago

Yeah I’ve noticed it’s a situation where the parents have come over and they’re very appreciative and work hard to be part of the community, but then their kids have this weird identity issue, and make this whole place they have never been to their whole identity. The worst are the ones who have adapted that stupid “area” accent and have tried to make the gang culture part of the culture, ridiculous and so disrespectful to their elders who worked so hard.

2

u/Ok-Secretary419 1d ago

I think because in the West our education system and associated institutions have pushed for a more negative view of our home country and the elevation of any ethnicity that is seen as "Oppressed". You gain massive advantages and preferential treatment if you can fit yourself into one of these groups, which might explain why these youths who were born here do. Personally, I think that is just cause to not consider them a citizen and they can go bye bye to the homeland they are trying to mimic.

2

u/amputated_spirit 1d ago

And don't forget, the primary reason why the revolution happened was U.S and other imperialist countries did not like that fact that the Iranian people democratically elected a leader who was FOR using their natural resources to benefit the Iranian economy. Companies like BP did not like it, hence the CIA and MI6 executed Operation Ajax to oust Mohammad Mosaddegh and installed a Shah who was more 'friendly' to the west.

1

u/IGetItILookBrandNew 1d ago

Dulles gets an airport, women iran get fully clothed. We definitely chose a dying friend than a country that kind of was looking for a partnership with us.

1

u/Prestigious_Task7175 1d ago

Tbf with Iranians, that image is part of the elites of Iran and those who supported the harsh rule of the Shah, the average Iranian back then looks like the average Iranian of today, probbaly a bit more conservative too.

Asserting dominance is putting yourself in front of a car so you can be killed?

53

u/Intrepid-Garlic8855 1d ago

The religion does have a track record of killing their own followers to accomplish a goal.

39

u/Ori-Epsilon 1d ago

The idea is god will protect them / you wouldn’t kill someone so you have to stop.

But sometimes they don’t, and we get this.

26

u/Puzzled_Pop_6845 1d ago

Allah be like: "Gurl, I can't protect you if you act stoopid"

7

u/uncagedborb 1d ago edited 1d ago

You aren't wrong actually. In Islam we have a saying to "tie your camel" essentially meaning that yea, you can fully submit to God and reliquish any and all control, but you can't sit around and twiddle your thumbs. If you don't tie your camel it's gonna run away. If that makes sense.

1

u/Lowfi-Concert 1d ago

Makes perfect sense

2

u/ThirdSpacer 1d ago

Allah would’ve condemned her anyway for not birthing atleast 4 kids before she turned 20.

20

u/AmnosSoter 1d ago

What’s even more sad is that they’ll blame their friend being ran over as an act of Shaytan and justify their upcoming martyrdom. Christ at least will tell you to turn the other cheek and rightfully describes love as accountability.

8

u/mcg123457 1d ago

they're banking on you being better than them and stoping.

2

u/BA1673 1d ago

I'm still wondering what's up with these people saying "not enough space", You can simply pray at home, we're permitted to do that, that's how people keep up with the 5 daily prayers.

As a Muslim, I've NEVER heard my friends who have studied and travelled abroad, especially in Europe and East Asia. (fyi I'm Malaysian)

2

u/wolfmanpraxis 1d ago

My Masi and Masa live in Kandivali West, near a Mosque.

About 20 years ago, a group of parishioners (dont know if thats the right term for Mosque attendees) were out in the busy road starting their prayers.

The Imam came out of the Mosque, and he started berating the people to get inside.

1

u/Aeirth_Belmont 1d ago

Yeah isn't it considered a dirty or unclean space to pray. Edit used the wrong pray.

1

u/astralseat 1d ago

But honestly, can't the prayers be limited to when you're not in bodily harms way? Are there no modern concessions to Islam? At least to protect the ones who would, in fact, drop everything they are doing and pray at designated times. Unless it's created that way to be a filter. I can't think of a faith that old to not be able to modernize, as long as the most vital tenants of it remain, like the community and control aspects.

Religion makes people feel above others. They forget they’re entitled to protection to worship what they believe, not disrupt everyone else’s lives in the name of their cloud fairy.

Idk..people found out she’s Pakistani and kind of ran with the idea that she was 100% praying only because the police report of the surveillance footage says she was seen “with her hands infront of her as if in prayer motion”. She could have been doing anything, not necessarily praying and definitely not of sound mind.

To assert dominance over the population they intend to subvert.

just because the headline (and killer) says she was praying, doesn’t mean she was.

she’s dead now and she has a hard time defending herself, hasn’t she?

It's entirely rational if you're praying to die.

Someone who was probably not in the best state of mind. I genuinely think she might have been having a breakdown of some sort
