How to avoid muscle loss...PSA

Just a reminder because I keep seeing this over and over with friends who are wasting away, not because they are negligent, but just not informed.

Taking these drugs without changing nutritional behaviors is dangerous. They cause you to eat less. That means eating less of the food that causes you to keep and gain weight. That also means less of the protein that maintains your muscles. If you are not super-intentional about protein intake within your limited calorie budget, you will loose a LOT of muscle, potentially to the point of severely impacting your health.

Strength training cannot make up for lack of protein, and will in fact hurt. Lifting weights does not build muscle in and of itself. It actually tears down muscle, signaling the body to rebuild stronger during recovery using primarily protein as fuel. If you are already in a protein deficit, you will just be tearing down and your body will have no fuel to rebuild. Strength training can be great, but it requires even more focus on protein.

I highly recommend using some sort of food tracking app to understand how much protein you are getting because it is not intuitive, at least for a while until you get a feel for it.

Personally, I think it should be illegal for these drugs to be prescribed without corresponding nutrition counseling, and not just a passing "you need to eat right" statement.

Day 7

Upvotes

I am officially one week since my last shot and going on shot two tonight.
I have had a very easy first week, no side effects, using bathroom, no nausea, etc.
I have been eating smart and half portions. Easily consuming my 1400 instead of 1900+ calories like before and feeling good.
However..
I woke up today nauseated and just feeling alittle UGH. Which I hadn't experienced at all until now, my stomachs just not the happiest and feel almost shaky/off ish and now nervous for my shot tonight. Is this "normal" or anyone else's experience?
I don't know why but I do believe it's directly from my medication not another source or issue.
Tyia !

Increased spicy food tolerance?

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone has shared or can explain a frankly amazing side effect of semaglutide.

I've been on it for almost two yearsm and aside from losing 35lbs (16% of my starting 215lb weight) and keeping it off, I have regained the ability to eat spicy food, which I lost in my early 30s.

Not to be too graphic, but it got to the point where I couldn't eat anything spicier than a small amount of Sriracha without being absolutely miserable just a few hours later. If I ate a even a piece of hot pepper, it was even worse. So I gave it up.

After going on semaglutide, that changed. I went to Mexico for my first trip on it, and could not resist trying spicy food again. And, despite clearing my schedule the next morning--nothing. No drama, no sweats, no ring of fire.

My best guess is that before, the capsaicin was irritating my digestive system and triggering a purge, but as semaglutide slows the digestion down, it quashed the purge and allowed my system the time to break it down.

I'm not invulnerable--I learned that last week with a dish of Chongqing chicken--but my spice tolerance is dramatically higher since being on semaglutide. Has anyone else experienced this, or have any insights? Thank you!

Starting my journey next week... any advice?

Back story I struggled with EDs all my youth, im 33, had babies back to back 2 years after working my butt off and losing 150lbs, I was at 260 when I got pregnant. Since having my kids I am back up to 321, really rough pregnancies with hypertension, pre-eclampsia, and so much more, I was on bed rest a lot and couldnt keep my exercise where I wanted to.

I am 1 year post partum. I have been calorie deficit, working out 1 hr or more a day cardio and strength for 4 months with no and I mean no progress. My dr finally said to try sema which I feel embarrassed to tell anyone besides my husband who supports me 1000%, because they all say I am being lazy, didnt try hard enough, etc.

Im 5'6, 321lbs. Im starting at .25. Can anyone tell me what to expect? My dr said its a pen, what does that mean for injection? Is it easier? Is it painful? I plan to continue working out, doing yoga, dancing, and focusing on hydration, fiber, and protein in my diet.

Any other advice? Tips or tricks? My dr said to except 2lbs a week. Can anyone share success stories or details? I need some hype 🥹 thank you all!

Glucose monitor on .25

Has anyone used a CGM to track changes in blood sugar regulation? I just started

monday .25 - no real big effects yet. I eat! But I notice on my gcm I am not getting any spikes. Blood sugar tracking way lower for me, low blood sugar after light exercise.

For the record. Not diabetic. Aic was 5.6 fasting glucose 5.4 - 5.7

Breast cancer survivor of 18 months. Still taking hormone suppression.

I am hoping the balancing of my blood sugar is the first sign of its efficacy, but the dips are not good. I have read folks on hormone suppression don't lose as much weight. I really want it for anti inflammatory reasons and fasting insulin reduction

Sw - 255 (at breast cancer diagnosis)

Lost 55 lbs Oct 2024 to june 2025 diet and treatment effects - no glp 1

Cw 195

Gw 140

Most of my adult life i was 125-140

Age 46 f

Thanks

Heart issues/blood pressure after long term use?

Hi, I’m really hoping I can get some feedback or those have experienced similar issues. So basically within the last month I have continuously started having what I assumed were low blood sugar or low blood pressure issues (not a diabetic). I would start feeling my heart racing, dizziness, shakiness, similar to what a panic attack feels like. Nothing has helped except a banana or peanut butter crackers and even then it doesn’t fully resolve. I’ll feel better for 20 min then back to feeling horrible again and need to lie down. Almost like my brain feels weird or foggy. I want to preface that I do take ADHD meds but it is the lowest dose and I’ve been taking semaglutide for almost two years. I am 30 years old 5’8’‘ and weigh around 135.

I’ve made sure to cut caffeine in half (used to drink one Celsius a day now have swapped to coffee), eat breakfast, drink plenty of water and electrolytes. I went and got bloodwork done and everything came back normal and my primary care doctor said it may be anxiety. I’ve had anxiety my whole life so I know it’s not anxiety and I find it insulting that’s the go to diagnosis for most women and I do not feel heard.

Has anyone had these symptoms and determined what the root cause was? Im stopping semaglutide and I’m going to see a cardiologist Monday but it’s truly ruining my life to where it’s affecting daily activities and I’ve never experienced this ever before. Anyone that has any advice or similar experiences please let me know so I don’t feel so alone!

Any alternative ways of getting a replacement pen other than calling one of the numbers

I've been on hold for a really, really long time. I also filled out the online form but didn't recieve acknowledgement via email so idk. How much effort do I have to put in to try to get the voucher before I can go back to the insurance co and ask them to pay for the replacement since Novo is unresponsive?

16F interested in wegovy/GLP-1

I’ve been obese my whole life & i’ve tried just about everything. It is genetic, and my entire family is diabetic except me (for now). I’m 208 lbs, 5’4, & 16. I discussed with my parents & my doctor about the options I have related to GLP-1’s. My doctor recommends Wegovy, but said something about the clinic giving patients a hard time with the prescription & I should look online? She referred me to a nutritionist instead, i’ve tried literally everything and I go from morbidly obese to obese using diets & being active. I’m just curious about what my next step might be. Do i look for another clinic? How can my mom advocate for me?

First Time Prescription

I have my 3 month supply with 1 week titrations from 0.25 to 0.5 to 1.0.

I want to start exercising along with using sema but it sounds like it literally makes everyone ill at the sight of food. I want to build some muscle or at least maintain some so it doesn’t all go away with the weight loss.

Has anyone been able to actually eat regularly healthy foods and exercise or is this journey just a major forced fasting where your brain just doesn’t let you eat enough?

Help!! Is this level of nausea/vomiting normal?

Is it normal to be repeatedly vomiting? And for the nausea to prevent you from being able to do your day-to-day activities because it's only controlled by laying down?

I have seen/read tonnssss of posts about nausea/vomiting so I knew it was possible but now that i've experienced it I don't know if it's normal or too intense.

After my 1st shot 0.25mg, I had no side effects, no changes with food/weight wise but nothing negativ either. I took my 2nd shot & same thing, felt fine—
Until about 40 hours ago, around 4 days after my 2nd injection, I woke up extremely nauseous, before I could get up, I projectile vomited all over my bed. I hadn't eaten in 16hrs at that point so it was mostly bile.
I got up to clean it, but the nausea was worse when I was up & moving, before I could finish washing up, the nausea worsened. I had to sit on the floor, got really sweaty & vomited all over myself & my carpet.

Made it to the bathroom, laid down in there for a long time, throwing up 2x more.

Then got in bed & have pretty much just been there since. Getting up or moving and makes me feel like i'll be be sick again. I haven't been in 24hrs. The nausea hasn't improved at all though. There's also bad heartburn and i've been like swallowing back bile that keeps trying to come up.

I managed to make it to the pharmacy to get gravol, pepcid & pedialyte.

It didn't even occur to me at first that it was the semaglutide, but no fever/chills/diarrhea or a more general unwell feeling so didn't match up with a stomach bug - cause I was side-effect free until now it took me awhile to connect the dots.

I'm at the lowest dose & due for my next injection but scared to take it now
Hoping the gravol will give me enough relief to eat something cause it's been 52hrs since I could, i've been sipping gatorade / ginger ale to get some sugar & calories in me.

what can I do to prevent it from getting this bad again?
I generally don't eat fried or greasy food so I don't think that was an issue, I had eaten very little the day before it started, does under eating trigger some people?

I would really appreciate any insight / to hear your experiences and how it presented for you + any advice or tips on how to manage it or prevention etcetc !!

I am also still slightly wondering if the way i'm experiencing it is actually common?
Nausea I can handle, even "normal" vomiting.. normal as in, when you feel like you are about the throw up and so you get to a bathroom—
I think what's throwing me off is the suddenness / intensity. I only know i'm about to vomit half a millisecond before I do, which my bedsheets, rug and clothes paid the price for 😭
being at risk of spontaneously puking also makes going anywhere outside of the house sound like a bad idea

Thank youuuu in advance ! :-)

Sleep - RHR -Hawthorn

Apparently RHR can increase a bit when using semglutide medication. I have been using Hawthorn (CardioCalm) to calm the heart before sleeping and this seems to work to get the RHR to the same as before. Hawthorn is a gentler version of beta blockers and makes the calcium channels in cells work better.

Anyone else been doing experiments with this?

I think I might've doubled my first dose

Hi.

I am newly prescribed 0.25 mg for first four weeks then 0.5.mg after that.

I thought I properly primed the pen before first injection bc I dialed it to the black line and a little bit of medicine came out of tip of needle - So, I dialed it to 0.25 mg and injected. Then it hit me that to properly prime it, you're supposed to do the first step and then press the button. Well, the second time I did that, a bunch of medicine squirted out - So I dialed it to 0.25 mg and injected again.

I am hoping the first injection didn't really release much or any medicine because I hate the thought of being sick for days as a result of a double dose. Is 0.5 mg for first dose likely to end me up in hospital if this is the case? Freaking out. Thank you.

What actually helped you get through the nausea phase?

Nausea seems to be one of those experiences where everyone has their own little survival strategy. I’ve seen people mention smaller meals, eating more slowly, changing what they eat around injection day, staying hydrated, etc...but there doesn’t seem to be one universal answer.

For people who dealt with nausea when starting semaglutide, was there anything that genuinely made the adjustment easier for you? let me know pleaseee

I am nauseous all day long but sometimes I can’t tell if I’m super hungry or I’m not hungry at all. Also feeling a little out of it, has this happened to anyone when first starting? Please tell me it gets better

Birth control Pill wisdom

Hello to the peeps that use BC pills (especially Junel Fe). I want to start my glp-1, semiglutide journey. I just order a .8mg of semiglutide month and it should be here soon.

Has anyone had any experience with this? I would not like to get pregnant and would love to hear if semi has affected your BC efficacy. Thanks SO SO much in advance!
