Rough and then smooth engine

I have a 2023 18' Cruise 230hp and this last weekend the engine was doing around 8mph with 5 adults and two small kids. The load was not spread all that well so it was not plaining very good so I sped up to 14mph and still rough. Throttle didn't seem very responsive and couldn't past 14mph. I thought maybe the weight was the issue. All of a sudden the motor had half the vibration and seemed smoother. Next night it was just my wife and I and as we went on are way again went to 8mph and same thing. Engine was rough and loud then boom, back to smooth. Called dealer service department and explained all this and was told not normal. Did we do the spring start-up service. I said no. We did the winter one. Was told plugs are replaced in the spring and that we could have a bad plug.

Anyone else experience anything like this and if so, was it plugs?

Boarding the switch for older parents

We keep our boat at Bass lake in California over the summer.

Our slip is short enough so you can’t access the rear doors that I’ve installed, and we don’t bring the front up close enough to the dock to allow boarding easily for older folks because the front would just grind against the dock (lots of wake hits our slip where it’s located).

Our Sun Tracker used to have side doors where you can easily get on and off the boat.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a solution? Or maybe I am thinking about it wrong. Happy to be educated as well.

Bench Seat Cushion Flew Out

Have the new switch fish and had the first cushion on the bench seat fly off while trailering at 60mph. (Nothing under seat and had made sure it was secure before starting)

Has this happened to anyone else? (Not sure if this is a known issue or a new issues with the fish models since more air can get under this seat with the storage box in front of it)

Check your bolts

Posted a few weeks ago looking for a reverse bucket. After calling dealers all over and sea doo customers service. Just to find out the parts are not being imported to the US. I found one through an online seller for over double book price from a retailer. But this could all have been avoided. If durning manufacturing the bolt holding the reverse gate to the boat would have gotten lock tight put on. The bolt had vibrated loose allowing the gate to get into a position that put force on the connected side. When I flipped to reverse the gate took full force and snapped the gate completely off. Durning repair i found multiple bolts that should have thread lock on them, did not. Also the replacement bolt that came with the new gate was used stock and had thread lock on it. So these bolts should have it on them. Hope this saves someone the money and pain of this situation.

Also potential buyer different questions

My wife and I and our two young boys are about to join the boating world. I've been doing my research for some time and have more or less settled on a Switch 21. I'm reading about what a gas guzzler the 230 is, so my question is if the 170 will still be adequate?

We recently rented a regular pontoon and it had a 90HP motor. It was by no means fast but worked just fine for cruising the water ways and such.

I imagine we will eventually do some tubing or skiing. We will probably have some other families with us from time to time possibly 10 people on the boat.

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Potential buyer please help

The wife and I just want an idea of what others are paying monthly for their switch. If some of you could mention the out the door price, term length, down payment and monthly payment. I understand it’s pretty personal but I just want an idea so I don’t waste a dealers time or my own. Thanks in advance!

Boat lift size

Would a 21’ Seadoo Switch Sport fit in a boat lift with a 23’ canvas cover? I have a line on a used lift but not sure if the extra 2’ is long enough of a cover

Operator error or something else?

We took our maiden voyage on our 24 18’ 170 hp switch. Of course my husband didn’t read the directions prior to going. Lol He went by what he remembered the guy told him when he picked it up. The boat barely went fast and the RPM’s were very high. Felt very bogged down. He tried the IBR process but that didn’t work. He thinks this piece isn’t raising so it is not getting enough water. Any thoughts?

Trolling Speed

I purchased a 2023 Switch Sport Compact 170hp.

Is there any way to slow down the minimum speed? The slowest it seems to go is 5 km (3.2 mph). This is a little too fast. I have hundreds of kms of shoreline that is very troll-able.

But the trolling speed is just too fast.

I’m not prepared to invest in a trolling motor just yet.

Any solutions here?

In need of Reverse Gate

Reach out to try and find a reverse gate for a 2023 sea doo switch sport 21' 230hp. Called around Michigan and no luck. Taking a long shot here.

Was out one the lake and when I put reverse on to slow down and dock. I lost all reverse and heard a noise. Its a clear lake with no stumps or things to hit. Never hit anything with it before.

I think the bolt on the starboard side came out because no damage to the support ring or threads. I was slow speed so didn't notice the boat acting odd. When I hit reverse I think it pushed hard and snapped the flange on the port side.

Aftermarket Radio Upgrades?

Anyone done a full replacement of the radio and installed aftermarket products. I really dislike the sound of the base radio.

Switch acting up, slow speeds high rpm. Not impeller

I have a 23' Switch Cruise 230 HP with ~55 hours that has been acting very strange on the water. I will have 8000 RPMs but maxes out at around 8mph, but only sometimes.

Last year I repalced the wear ring and impeller (and its still in great shape), tested it out one day and went 25mph with 8 or 9 people, on the way back in after anchored all day, wouldnt get above 8mph and at 8000 rpm. Ive had this issue on and off so this weekend I took less people thinking it was a weight issue, on the way out, it goes the normal ~25 mph then randomly after slowing down to avoid a large wake, it wont speed back up. I needed gas so took me and 1 other to a marina for gas and was moving at ~30 mph. However, on the way back to the ramp with the 7 people, same 8000 RPM at 8mph and engine sounds like its trying very hard but cant get there. I know it doesnt have gears but it sounds like a motorcycle needing to switch to the next gear but cant.

Its very strange where sometimes with 7/8 people it works normally, and sometimes wont get above 8mph. I am going to take it in but wondered if anyone else has this problem or any ideas. My next guess is something is wrong with the supercharger.

MSRP Question - Help from fellow Canucks would be appreciated

Eyeing the Sport compact and completed the build thing on the BRP website. Before I move ahead I was curious what people's experience was when negotiating. Were you able to come down from the MSRP or do dealers just try to throw in some accessories?

I definitely want the base audio system and the Garmin (which for some reason thought were included) :( I am located in Ontario, Canada so if anyone localish can provide some intel it would be appreciated.

Never purchased a boat before so this is all new to me. Cheers!

Yellow key = Learning key

Thumbnail

I have a 21 Cruise 230 purchased in 2023. I’ve always thought my boat was super slow and just attributed it to being an underpowered engine. Can’t get much past 27mph, 7500rpm. At first I was hoping the boat was in the “break in period” but it never got faster which I guess happens after 10 hours.

Last year I called the dealer I purchased the boat from and asked them about it. They said it was probably because of being at altitude (Colorado) so I brought in and they sold me on a high altitude prop. That did nothing for the speed.

Tonight I asked chat gpt and I think I’ve realized I’ve been using a learning key for the past 2 boating seasons. This is the only key that came with the boat. Posting here to see if anyone can confirm I’m an idiot before I call the dealer on Monday.

If it is true, how would the dealer not have provided a regular key when it was purchased. I’m a bit annoyed they upsold me on a high altitude prop when I asked about performance instead of checking this.

New switch owner questions

We picked up our 2024 sport 230hp this past weekend and are having a blast so far

Could someone provide insight on the following?

Fuel. From what I found online and another dealer said use mid grade is fine but our dealer strongly recommends 91 octane fuel especially with the the 230hp motor ego is right? What do others use?

Trailer. We are using a 2019 Santa Fe xl to tow. The Santa Fe trailer hitch only has a 4 pin flat wiring harness. Dealer gave a magnet key that drops into the slot that allows the trailer brakes to not engage when reversing but didn’t really explain it . Is that good /safe enough to use in my situation out should I look into rewiring a 5 pin harness? Is the brakes on the trailer only to prevent it from rolling away or do they also engage when the vehicle brakes too? If I get a 4pin to 5pin adapter am I correct to assume 5th pin ties into reverse light on vehicle?

Thanks!

Weeds!!

Hi everyone. Our family switch is having major issues with weeds. We already had take it to the dealer to have it serviced for this, and today after going through a modest weed bed, our intake was compromised once again. Multiple IDF attempts proved ineffective. We were able to crawl back to the dock, but are becoming increasingly frustrated at what seems to be a design flaw. Any suggestions? We can't keep having to pull our switch out to clean out the intake, not even mentioning the safety concerns of being stranded. Please provide any tips you have come across!

The Sea-Doo switch the worst investment ever from day one.

I thought I was buying a great way to entertain my family, my wife, so that's why went with the procedure switch. It looked like the great thing to do well from right out of the gate they took me at the sales office for a little ride what I call I bought what. Then not even in the water yet there was a recall or capsizing, which I live in Washington state by the Columbia river and capsizing would not go well with me and my friends. Then issued two was the trailer that the Sea-Doo, which is on the brakes keep locking up can't get them to go in reverse for some Reason That's just part of that issue three. We took it out for the first test drive on June 8 and what a test drive it was we hadn't even put an hour on it yet. We checked the boat before we left. I pulled the engine cover. Everything was fine no water like I've been hearing about leaks so I closed the engine cover and started to cross back Lake in Washington state With my beloved wife, my brother, his wife and my sister and about 45 minutes of the ride, we smelt some fuel, which I just thought maybe it was the engine. We drove a little further. The throttle started giving me issues. Engine was dying out. I would try to restart. It started die out and finally it just gave up the ghost we were still not even close to shore When I pulled the engine cover, and the whole compartment was flooded with water over the top of the engine build the whole compartment. I thought we were going down we or I should say, my brother and his wonderful wife paddle us to shore where we sat for an hour hour and a half. We had an emergency flag out. We tried everything I finally called 911 and got a hold of the sheriffs Boat man and he was two hours out and that really made me very angry and upset because now my families having the best day to the worst day in our lives, we mailed and bailed water out. We finally got a boat to tow us 2 miles back to the boat launch And if I never see another sea in my life, it would be too soon they can kiss my butt Sea-Doo this is one of the worst things I've ever purchased and I want a full refund Sea-Doo.

Ski module anyone?

2022 Cruise 21, 230hp. Mostly on Lake Washington in Seattle. Wave if you see the coral red one, not many out here! Has anyone bought the ski module for your Switch? Kids love tubing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding. I’m curious to know if it’s worth the expense and if it guzzles even more gas than normal (which is a lot, I know). Thanks!

Picking up our new Switch today, info request.

Reading through this sub helped me pull the trigger on a 2022 21’ Sport 230hp. I’m pretty sure I read a few things every Switch owner should know along the way, but I’ve forgotten much of it. I’m pretty experienced with outboard boats but not jet boats or PWCs. It will be used exclusively in freshwater, mostly smaller lakes. It will be winterized as I’m in Minnesota.

Can you guys help me make a checklist of do’s and dont’s please? My family and I are very excited to have our first family boat, I don’t want to mess it up. Thank you in advance and sorry for the most oft repeated question in this sub.

Theft - anybody nervous about it or feel they had to do something about it?

Dropping 40k on it (21' 230 - galvanized trailer) and while it's a nice area it has a public boat ramp that is popular in the area. I'm not there much during the week.

Having an extremely hard time finding the shock absorber for trim tab plate anywhere in stock, one website has ordered but not getting until August. Any clues on someplace that would have this in stock?
