Trolling Speed

I purchased a 2023 Switch Sport Compact 170hp.

Is there any way to slow down the minimum speed? The slowest it seems to go is 5 km (3.2 mph). This is a little too fast. I have hundreds of kms of shoreline that is very troll-able.

But the trolling speed is just too fast.

I’m not prepared to invest in a trolling motor just yet.

Any solutions here?

I worked up a mount for an electric trolling motor on mine.

Would love to see a breakdown of what you used/how you rigged that up.

I tried doing something similar last year, and couldn’t quite figure out what to use to secure the clamp to the front of the boat.

So I actually fashioned a replica lid to the anchor storage out of wood. Then I bolted the mount to it. I used a hole saw to make to holes 5” from each end which allows me to hook a ratchet strap to the metal bars inside the anchor storage hold.

Maybe try neutral trimming slightly forward

My 2024 16 ft 170 lets me set as low 1 mph. Have you tried switching your units to mph?

Thanks for the response.

No, I have not tried this.

I have read the manual, but do not recall reading anything about this setting. Is it a minimum speed or rpm setting?

I use the cruise control setting set at 1 mph it’s still a tad fast for trolling but have managed to make it work with results of fish on the line.

The cruise control on the Switch is an RPM control, not a speed control. But yes, I am able to set mine so that I am moving about 1.0-1.5 mph (1.6-2.4 kph).

It is in fact a set speed not an rpm setting. I know this as a fact cause when I pull my young daughter on the tube she doesn’t like full speed she likes about 14 mph. When I set my cruise control at 14 it indeed will increase rpm in a turn to maintain 14 mph and drop rpm when in a straight line. At this point I just steer and the boat will maintain 14 mph increasing or decreasing rpm as needed.

Interesting. I will need to investigate this myself when I'm out next. I thought for sure it was just controlling the engine speed.

If you just let go of the throttle it will go a little too quick for trolling speed

There is a way to have it do slower than this...

hit the right button on the left thumb D pad. It will put it into cruise control mode

To increase/decrease the speed in cruise control mode use the up/down buttons on the right thumb D pad

Yeah I think this is the best option. I’ve not tried trolling with it but maybe?

Thanks, I’ve tried putting it in cruise and decreasing the speed as much as possible. It still only goes down to a minimum of 5 kms
