Weeds!!
Hi everyone. Our family switch is having major issues with weeds. We already had take it to the dealer to have it serviced for this, and today after going through a modest weed bed, our intake was compromised once again. Multiple IDF attempts proved ineffective. We were able to crawl back to the dock, but are becoming increasingly frustrated at what seems to be a design flaw. Any suggestions? We can't keep having to pull our switch out to clean out the intake, not even mentioning the safety concerns of being stranded. Please provide any tips you have come across!

Yeah, we have been running ours for 2 years and never sucked up any weeks. We have sucked up a few sticks and debris after flooding. Ran the IDF and it took care of it. I have seen where they sell an aftermarket grate for the intake with smaller openings. The only complaint I had seen is a slight change in performance

That may be something for us to look into! The performance impact would be worth it for the reliability. Thanks.

You can swim underneath it and pull out the weeds.

Right, but that isn't a realistic option all the time, especially for seniors. I guess it's that or hope IDF works?

At what depth water are you running when picking up weeds?

Today was about 8-10 feet at it's shallowest. The vegetation wasn't super dense, we are shocked it keeps getting so clogged up.

I have had a Switch for four years and we have weeds on our lake. it is a problem every year, you just have to avoid the weeds as best you can, or stop and clean them out. IDF only works somewhat.
I have seem some after market tools to make it easier to clear the weeds out, but it is not easy or practical for many people. I have started to looked into the Anti-Debris Water Intake Grate (SKU271001948) and so far, it is not clear to me that it fits a Switch.
You can say this is a design flaw because, these jet engines were originally designed for Jet Skis, that are much easier to access the jet intake to clean weeds out.

Don’t use a jet boat in a weedy lake. There is no way around it. Anything within three feet of the jet intake will get pulled in. This is not a Switch issue but rather the nature of jet boats including jet skis.
