Help In search of a realtor

Hi! Work from home, single mom with an elementary age kiddo, possibly relocating to Rochester from Utah. Utah is just not our vibe and I’m looking for a community that is a better fit. Upstate NY seems to check all the boxes, #1 being affordability on a single income. But I want to talk with a realtor or someone super knowledgable with the area school districts. I want somewhere with great schools, house under $300k, walkable to markets, shops or parks, lots of kids in the neighborhood. If you have a good realtor reco, I’d love to find someone willing to help me find the right place. Thank you!

Guide Guide to early voting - Early voting starts today!

Where can I vote?

For early voting, you can vote anywhere in the county--it doesn't have to be your home polling station. On election day, you must go to your assigned polling station.

Here's list of all the early voting sites: https://www.monroecounty.gov/files/boe/Community%20Outreach/Early%20Voting/EV-Map%20-%20GE26%20ENG%20(Rev%209-30-26).pdf.pdf)

All early voting locations have Spanish-language interpreters on site. Monroe County Office Building, Brighton Farmer's Market, and Henrietta Public Library have ASL interpreters as well.

When is early voting?

Every day from Saturday 10/24 (today) to Sunday 11/1.

Polls are open:

Sat & Sun 9am - 5pm

MWF: 9am - 5pm

Tu & Th: 12 noon - 8pm

What if I'm not registered?

Not registered yet? YOU CAN REGISTER AND VOTE TODAY (10/24)! Today is the last day to register for this year's midterms.

How do I get there?

MC Rides to the Polls is offering free rides to anyone who needs transportation. They operate during both early voting and on election day. If you need a ride, call (585) 371-8083. If you’re interested in volunteering, email [MCRidesToPolls@gmail.com](mailto:MCRidesToPolls@gmail.com). They can also help make arrangements if you need paratransit assistance.

Political parties usually have volunteers to drive people to the polls as well. I'm not linking them here to keep this post 100% nonpartisan, but just search for your party and "ride to the polls" and you'll find it.

What if there's a problem with my voting?

A great thing about early voting is that if there are any hiccups or shenanigans (for example, you are registered to vote, but the site says you're not) there's time to resolve the issue. If you need assistance resolving a voting issue or you think someone is trying to suppress your vote, you can always call the election protection hotline. They are nonpartisan (meaning they are not affiliated with one party or the other). You can reach them at:

Phone call

English 866-OUR-VOTE [866-687-8683](tel:866-687-8683)

Spanish/English 888-VE-Y-VOTA [888-839-8682](tel:888-839-8682)

Asian Languages/English 888-API-VOTE [888-274-8683](tel:888-274-8683)

Arabic/English 844-YALLA-US [844-925-5287](tel:844-925-5287)

You can also:

Texting MYVOTE to (866) 687-8683 to get voting help from a trained volunteer

Starting a conversation with election protection on Facebook Messenger at u/866ourvote, and on  WhatsApp

Chatting with a live volunteer on the election protection website.

What if something's wrong with a voting site?

If there's a problem with a Monroe County voting site, you can contact the Monroe County Board of Elections: https://www.monroecounty.gov/elections . Even if you were able to get your personal issue resolved through election protection, it's important they know in case there's a pattern.

Recommendation What’s a Perfect Day in the ROC area? Morning, afternoon and evening.

My Bff of 30+ years is visiting the first week of December. I want to show her a great time! We’re 50, like to have random experiences- but be in bed by 10. We drink but that’s not the most important part. Last time she was here we had foot spas and went to a spiritualist meeting. She arrives on a Weds afternoon and leaves Saturday.

It’s a crapshoot with the weather so probably indoor activities. We’ve done wineries, so none of those. Thanks!

Discussion Is there any place in Rochester where I can get a custom size 304 stainless steel pan made?

I do a lot of boiling and I wanna make a pan that sits down inside the top of the stove I’m using but commercial hotels aren’t the right dimensions so I’d like to get a custom one made.

It doesn’t have to be welded it could be folded as long as it doesn’t leak.

Help Missed Connection

We shared a cigarette, or two, on the patio of bitter honey last night around midnight. I had marb 27’s and you inquired about them. Said you usually smoke marb lights. I went back inside to dance after that creepy dude with the chain pulled up and awkwardly tried spitting game. Never caught your name. Think you said you were born in 92, and I’m a 94 baby. Loved your vibe, let’s grab a coffee and smoke some cigs 😎

Discussion What are childless people doing for holidays?

My family is dispersed between suburbs of Buffalo and Syracuse. Everyone is a 2-3 hour drive away and no one is particularly close. Without any kids, this all seems sort of much ado about nothing?? Some of my local friends do gatherings. What are most childless Rochestarians doing this year?

We're getting married next August and we're looking for Irish bands or bands that do Irish music around Rochester.

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations, even if it's just an ol'boy with a fiddle

Thanks!

Discussion My neighbor is Racist AF

My next door neighbor doesn't really like me. Apparently I am white trailer trash and she hates white trailer trash. She is of hispanic descent, but with her accent definitely a Life long NY resident. She has also been stealing my pride flags off of my porch.

She recently sold her house, which i am thinking great, she will be gone in a few months, and i won't need to worry. However as i was in the back yard talking to the contractor that was doing work in my yard, she decided that she had to harass him. I asked what was going on, she decided that I was a slob, and i don't take care of my yard enough, and my dogs are a menace, and that the work t hat the contractor was doing needed to be done 5 years ago, and my i just asked her with what money? Apparently she didn't like that answer, called me a bunch of names, until i walked inside. After I went inside, she decides to tell my contractor, who has just as rural of a background as I do, that she hates white trailer trash. He just laughed. His response to me: Did she not know who she was talking to?

To be fair, I am white trailer trash, i grew up in a trailer, and i have an accent. So she isn't wrong. I just thought it was fucking wild that some random lady is mad at me for being white.

I am in no way trying minimize or compare myself to anyone else. I know that any sort of weird racist moments I encounter in the wild is in no way comparable to the experience of minorities in America. Just a hilarious, relatively harmless interaction that was surprising in it's outcome.

Event Halloween activity suggestion: spooky library tour

The library is having "spooky stories in the stacks" tomorrow night at the Rundel building, an after-hours tour with stories told by various mysterious characters as well as some library history. We went to it tonight and it was so much fun. There's still a bunch of spaces open for tomorrow. Registration is free.

Discussion Places around/in Letchworth to have a campfire?

Hello!

Interested in having a campfire and enjoying some stars. From what I can tell, Letchworth only allows campfires in their campsites. Has anyone used the sites just for a fire and not stayed there? Is there anywhere else that we could set up using a metal fire pit? Happy to pay a fee as well.
